My favorite is when somebody bitches about the 40k CVO, but buys a 25k-30k bike and spends 10-15k to try to make it a CVO and they still fall short. 🤣

I got a 2017 CVO Street Glide, then put a stage four on it, along with a tour pack. Upgraded the shocks. Threw in a high-performance cam. Added heated seats and grips. The mods have been made over the bikes life. The bike has been in one accident where another rider hit me from behind. Got everything replaced that was damaged through an HD Dealer. Gunslinger's in Golden, Colorado did the paint. They are one of the painters of record for Harley. The bike looks brand new and goes like a bat out of hell. Love this CVO. It's so fast and just pulls in all gears and looks good. Its an absolute joy to ride. I never plan on selling this bike. Walking away I always look back at this bike.

Every man has to buy a bike he loves. That thing is not my choice but that don't matter. I have a bike I love and turn to look at it every time I get off it. Got guys asking what bike should I by? Mostly I try to say buy what you love. Of course I do try to keep beginners on lower powered bikes. Otherwise buy what makes you happy! Buy what feels good! Buy what you are proud of!

I agree with you for the most part on this Mr. Monkey. However, when you buy a CVO you’re not getting a unique custom bike. The mods made are Harleys choice not yours as an owner. Although the CVO is the top of the line, I would still ( as you did) make modifications. Based on this I bought a Road Glide standard over the special. I have spent about $3k on upgrade and am completely happy having that extra money to get what I wanted to make the bike mine. You have a great point regarding the resale aspect, but I didn’t buy my bike thinking of selling it or trading it in. Still, very good video. Thank you

The problem with having it done after market is, unless it’s done before it rolls off the line, chances for screw up are increased. The factory line is always going to be a more solid build.

Spot on. Only heavily customize a bike you’re going to keep or you lose so much. CVO’s are great for getting a “customized” bike that retains its trade in once you go to re up to the newest one in a couple years

I have a 2015 SG standard that I have dumped a TON of money into...everything you list...Custom wheels, chrome front end, Ohlins suspension, stereo work, seat, etc etc etc....and now I have a 50k motorcycle that has a book value of like 15k...LOLZ....luckily I love the thing....(I BETTER!!!)

That’s what we went through with my wife. First bike ever for her. Used 2019 iron 883. Had it 11 days. She decided too small, went to brand new 2020 softail. 14 days later she wants radio, windshield, floor boards , heated grips etc. So I wasn’t going to put all the stuff on. She now has 2020 street glide and is finally satisfied. Thank God!!!

I had a CVO as well and you hit the nail on the head. Outside the fact that if you customize a standard motorcycle, you’re still going to pay in the end close to or the same as you would a CVO and then if you sell or trade you only going to get the standard price. You may still add a few parts to make a CVO more your own, but it’s worth more to begin with.

This video confirms what I’ve been told at dealerships regarding what a CVO costs vs doing that stuff yourself. You’re still spending a crap ton of money for it, but you’ll have a bike with resale value instead of a really expensive Special with no equity at resale or trade time. We all make our bikes our own, with the understanding that it’s money you probably won’t get back. Thanks for spelling it all out.

I think that one possible anti-CVO argument is “What else could you do with $40k that would be more fun?” In my case, I bought 3 used bikes. All 3 or 4 years old with between 2,000 and 5,000 miles (Garage Queens). Street Glide Special and Super Glide for me. Freewheeler trike for the wife. They already had a total of $10k in exhaust, intake, tuners, etc. And private party bikes in AZ are no sales tax. Everyone is different, but I’m much happier with 3 nice bikes than one super nice bike.

I'm a CVO fan ! Lol ya I know those who buy a bike throw 10 grand in an engine so they can sound cool and never leave the city limits ! To me a CVO is the same as having a Cadillac Fleetwood instead of a Cheverolet Impala ! But to all his own the main thing is wind in your face ! Oh by the way I usually wear bib overhauls and a harley t shirt unless I'm going someplace special then I put on a nice Harley button down dress shirt lol😅

I’m on my 28th motorcycle and 2nd Road Glide Ultra CVO, it’s a 2015 model I have had since new. Today I hit 108K miles on mine. I have over $60K in mine to date. 117” Stage 4 kit, Dakota Digital instruments, Öhlins HD 357 rear shocks, Stage 2 Boom Speakers, Vance & Hines total exhaust system just to name a few mods of many. I also have ESP warranty which has paid out over $10K in warranty work to date. My CVO fits me perfectly with the Mustang seat I’ve had now on the last 3 Harleys I’ve owned. My latest mod were adjustable brake & clutch levers about a month ago. I plan to eventually install the upgraded Boom Radio and perhaps another pair of speakers in my lower fairing.

Totally worth it.....personal satisfaction and upgrade purposes....quality... straight from the factory...and it’s a CVO....slightly better resale..Mine didn’t come with white flip flops and bedazzled jeans though like yours....I’ll have to go buy some now .....I did my research, looked at the costs and came to the conclusion that the CVO was a better deal than buying a Standard or a Special and then adding all the “Stuff”...so after receiving begrudging approval from my “Boss”...Mrs. Gunship Gray............ I bought a 2018 SG CVO.....in Gunship Gray.....and paid with all the pennies I had saved for many, many years.....I live in Colorado and after many phone calls and dealer research finally purchased my bike in Wisconsin from Harley Davidson of Madison.....and paid MSRP...not a marked up price....the monies I saved for paying MSRP and not a higher mark up price paid for a few upgrades I had installed at the time of purchase...Harley Davidson of Madison Wiscosin.....excellent dealer and excellent service.

It's less costly to buy the CVO than trying to make your bike into one. I have a 2020 Road Glide Special Eagle Eye. Of course I didn't stop there. I got the color matched tour pack not to make it an Ultra or limited but a Road Glide Special with a tour pack but it's a Harley so the upgrades never end. I see your CVO has upgrades too. We put together a side stand because it comes chrome on a ride that is supposed to be "blacked out as well as I got rid of the chrome bag latches and shift linkage. I'm around five grand in upgrades for a limited production bike and I haven't even gotten around to the bars and exhaust yet. Roll on and keep the rubber down. I subscribed so I can see more of your videos

In 2015 I traded in my 2008, BMW K 1200 LT. I was looking at a HD limited. The salesman at Harley Davidson told me that he could tell by looking at my BMW that I would not be happy with my purchase since he noticed, I added every single upgrade I could to my BMW. (heated grips, heated seat, navigation, remote, lockable bags, alarm. Etc. ) I want to buying a 2015 CVO ultra limited for $38,000. Seven years later I traded it in for a 2022 CVO RG and envious green fade. I wound up getting $23,000 for my trade! If I had purchased that non-CVO bike, I maybe would have gotten $14,000. The reason I purchase a CVO bike and I will continue to do so in the future, it’s because of the attention to detail and the feeling that there really isn’t anything major I can do to the bike to make it better.

if you like everything just the way it is, its a good purchase, if you think about altering things you might be pulling off those extra dollar parts just to put on what you want. the more you look at it and would want to change about it the more over priced they become. this is a bike you leave AS IS.

If I could see dropping that kind of money I know you get what you pay for. Here's one thing I work as an insurance adjuster on a total loss if it's a CVO the settlement amount is easy they value for what they are worth if you take the Road Glide Special and do all that extra add on's you are going to fight for every penny because it wasn't a CVO with added options you will only get a very small amount back and that depends on your carrier or coverage. It works like you said it's worth what a special is worth! Great topic and love the color set up on your CVO enjoy the weather have freezing rain here in Illinois

They are! I once wanted to answer this question about Cvo value and bought a Road Glide Ultra and put the price delta vs a Cvo into parts and accessories. At that point I realized I still needed to invest about 8000 for special painting and engine. Since then I always bought CVO: 2 street Glides 1 Limited and I'm now closing a Road Glide. CVOs are definitely worth while the price.

I bought my first SGCVO in 19. My wife and I were in a HD shop in Louisiana after we drove down to see some friends. For some reason the 2 tone black forest and wicked red or cherry caught my eye. The salesdude asked what it would take for me to buy the bike, as I said way past my pay grade. Either way, I got it for what I think was a steal for a CVO and have it today. I had an 09' Heritage to go with it at home. I do miss that bike but selling it helped me pay off another loan and therefore I felt better about keeping the CVO. As of today, I love it and it's beautiful. I have a new exhaust on it and tuned. For a 177 it really scoots and that's enough for me. I'm not a snob and especially don't care what others think. I love the bike! Go and get yourself one..

Think I'm qualified to answer this one. After 53 years of riding I finally bought the top of the hill motorcycle, a 2019 Road Glide CVO,,,,exactly like yours. I'm also a former dealer, but never bought a CVO,, ( we sold them!) I always just got a black whatever. I totally agree, if you try and make a standard anything into a CVO you're going to get killed at trade in time. It's still just a standard street glide or road glide, you get nothing for the accessories. Hard to really point out all the items you get on the CVO, add the Sirius module too $399 plus labor (2021 CVO doesn't even come with it) neat red light in the center console too. Yes,,,,we both hate the average CVO rider, usually doesn't even know what they have, they just know it was the most expensive so he bought it. I think it's safe to say we don't fall in that category. I love my CVO, and love it stock, changed the shield, added a Bad Boyz rider back rest, quick release for passenger backrest too, that's all! Now the 2021 CVO Road Glide doesn't have the Sirius module, no closeable vents, no hydraulic clutch, ugly wheels, sad looking floorboards. Sure enjoy your videos buddy,,,,thanks OCALA FL.

CVOs are where Harley Davidson tests new products. You'll usually see larger engines and fancy dress up accessories. My buddy blew a tire, and he was towed to Milwaukee Harley Davidson. Sitting on the showroom floor was a 1 year old CVO. I decided to make a lowball offer, and it was accepted. I loved it and still do. (My son owns it now).

I'll agree, the CVO is great to look at...but to put that much money into a bike that only LOOKS better than a standard or a special...and still get 93(ish) Hp. I could not justify the extra $20k on cosmetics alone. A 114 off the showroom floor is 90 Hp...and depending on which chassis...more torque than the 117. Of course, you can throw more money at the engine...but really. Don't get me wrong, I love my Harleys...we throw all kinds of money at them, but I can't justify that extra cash for so little gain. I have a '19 Electra Glide Standard. Of course I'm throwing money into it, but it will be exactly what I want it to be. To each his own. By the way....great channel...I look forward to seeing your videos every day.

If you add up what is on it vs what it would cost you to make your RG, SG, or UL have the same things on it, then it is worth it. My issue is that a lot of what you pay for to get in a CVO should have been standard on a premium motorcycle. A 200+ watt stereo, power locks, LED lights, etc. should be standard features on a $30,000+ bike - it is that way on almost all of Harley's competitors (BMW, Honda, Indian, Yamaha). That's one of the reasons I traded in my 115th Anniversary CVO Limited for an Indian Roadmaster - I got the same features on it, and payed $15,000 less.

I've been riding CVO bikes since 2000 in Florida also. The most important part you didn't mention is the CVO is built by the same 5 techs from start to finish. They sign the bottom side of the tanks. CVO doesn't go down the normal assembly line. FYI

Unfortunately not the case anymore. For the last several years they have gone right down the same line. Also, they aren’t as exclusive as they used to be. Something like 10% of road glides in 2019 were CVO…

Your spot on about the financial side. Mine is a 2008 anniversary Roadking. It's a numbered bike. I didn't know they now go down the same assembly line and are not exclusive. Keep the Shiny side up.

I had a 2008 anniversary colors CVO Road King. Bought it in 2011 with less than 2000 miles on it from a dealer. It was a H-D repo. Absolutely loved the bike, the power, and the color. I installed legend air bags and onboard compressor w/handlebar mounted switches and gauge. Fantastic ride and handling.-The issue I had was too much chrome up front, it was a painful source of glare on a bright sunny day. It was beautiful, the craftsmanship in it was superb for a factory built bike. Had to sell it in 2017, I fell on hard times, had bills to pay. Right after I sold it, I got a call to go to work and could have kept it. No one knows what the future holds. Least wise not for certain. No regrets well maybe a little 😎 Would I buy another CVO, yes. Most likely a street glide this time. Like your channel keep up the good work I appreciate you

Test rode a 21 cvo limited at demo day at my local. While it was alot of bling, and I felt that 117 power, I actually preferred the roadglide limited over the cvo. 12k cheaper to boot. Too bad they don't make the roadglide limited cvo anymore.

You're 💯 for what you set out to compare. For me, I wanted an all blacked out bike. So, I started with a 2019 Street Glide Special. 117 Stage 4, Vance and Hines exhaust, Boom Audio Stage 2 speakers and amps, LED headlight, upgraded grips and mirrors, with a Clockworks 8 inch windshield and CVO style front and rear seats. This bike was the dealership demo (361 miles) and already had a lot of upgrades, including the king tourpack and upgraded floorboards. I got the Warranty Forever lifetime drivetrain warranty. I plan to keep the bike forever. For me, buying a CVO and painting it black would have been a dumb idea. So the smart move was upgrading the SGS. Now, at about 90k miles, I've just replaced front and rear suspension. Also sent forks and some other parts out for powder coating. I'm extremely happy with my bike and the build 💯! In the end I still have a Street Glide Specil. But if I don't wreck it, sell it, or trade it in... Then I'm golden!

Had a ‘17 SGS that I bought new and made many upgrades to make it the way I wanted it. Lots of money and I loved that bike. Until I seen the ‘19 CVO SG same color scheme as yours. Seen it in March of ‘19 and couldn’t stop thinking about it but couldn’t find the right deal. It all changed when I found a new one in February 2020 that was the right deal. Absolutely worth it. Too much detail and options to ever list out. Matt Laidlaw of Laidlaw H-D said he priced it out. To take a reg SG and to purchase all the parts with labor to make it a CVO would be $30k easy. And all the work I did to the ‘17...... didn’t matter on trade. Dealer told me to original parts back on and sell later to recoup some money but they weren’t goin to give a better deal with them on. That even included the matching H-D King tourpack.

Bought my first CVO in 2019, it was an SG. Loved that bike. Just purchased a 21 RG CVO and I definitely enjoy it. Nothing matches the looks and the attention to detail and they are limited production. I generally put on 15k-20k a year, so having my FXST helps split the miles up.

I bought a used late model FLHXSE CVO Street Glide. I bought it to be my final bike, as I am now officially a senior citizen. It s not my first Street Glide, so I do know how much time, effort & money it takes to bring it up to CVO standard, so yes it does make sense. The paint is the big downside, you must keep it stock. Basically you must keep everything stock to retain value, except perhaps engine internals…

After riding a 2016 Goldwing then going to a 2018 Ultra Limited I was missing too many "bells and whistles" on the Limited. Upgraded to the 2017 CVO Limited, rode that for a while and loved that bike. But like you said it was just me. The weight of the Limited was just too much for an everyday ride. Traded it for my 2020 CVO Street Glide. Just right for touring and everyday riding and has plenty of "bells and whistles" to make the ride enjoyable. I agree with ya, if ya don't look back you got the wrong bike. Dark Side.

I've had a CVO and am now on a Special. Both terrific rides. In my option, there are things on the CVO that added to the overall cost that I didn't appreciate. Additionally, I ride in Canada where we have a shorter riding season and it is tough to justify the extra doo ray mes ($$$). For those reasons, I can customize my ride to what I what versus the limit myself to the designers at HD. To each there own, if your pockets are endlessly (and you those can't take the money with you), spent until your heart desires. As you said, when you get off your bike, seek a peek and love it, that's the bike for you. In the meantime, thanks for the great videos.

I use to have a 2012 Ultra Classic Electra Glide Ultra CVO and traded it in on a 2016 Road Glide Ultra CVO. When switching from my first motorcycle, a 2005 Suzuki Katana 600, I did my research on the Harley Touring lineup. I came to the same conclusion you did. If I bought a base model and were to upgrade it with all the useable accessories including paint and engine, it would have cost me $10,000 more than a CVO just in parts, not counting labor. But looking at the CVOs lately, they are way overpriced including my 2016. The way you really need to look at the cost of a CVO is not by how much more money it would cost you to upgrade a current lower model bike to be a CVO look-a-like, but the actual difference in price between the parts that are installed. What is the price difference between the 107ci engine and the 117ci? What is the difference in price from a base model or special paint job vs a CVO paint job. The difference in price from the base model or special grips, floor boards, pegs, wheels, etc vs the CVO. Most of the useable accessories come on all models. Yes there are some accessories that are added to the CVOs as standard equipment that are not on lower models, but do you see where I’m going here. It makes me sick these days where a RG CVO is right around $50K and it is missing the tour pack, lower fairings, and rear crash bars. But the special has the same infotainment system but lower stage speakers, and no WHIM for Bluetooth com sets. It just blows my mind at how expensive the CVOs have become and they have less usable features than an ultra/limited, whatever they are called now these days. Although I absolutely loved my CVOs, I’ll never buy another one. Especially after buying my 2018 Goldwing Tour DCT, which is by far a far superior bike over the two CVOs I’ve owned in comfort and technology. Not to mention it cost a third less. I still have my 2016 RG CVO as I like having 2 bikes, one as a reserve if needed, but the RG has a little more storage space when I need it occasionally. My motorcycles are my only form of transportation. My wife has a small suv as her daily driver.

Great Video. I think you nailed it. I just picked up a '21 Roadglide Limited. it's the blacked out version so I don't need to worry about all the chrome upgrades. I was debating between the Special with a detachable King Tourpack versus the Limited that the tour pack was included with speakers. Of course, over time, I will add some other accessories, but the only major upgrade would have been to go with the new Rockford Fosgate system. I opted for the J&M Stage 5. Installing that this weekend.

Each to their own, I find I don't need, nor want, all the extra gear that the motor vehicle manufacturer includes. Just one example, years ago I bought a new base model car which came with everything I wanted (eg. cloth seats and A/C) except the factory in-dash GPS. I had to buy the next model up if I wanted the factory GPS fitted, but it cost $3,000 more notwithstanding it included a metallic paint options and a few other things (none of which I needed or wanted). This was not an emotional buy. So, was I going to spend $3,000 more for a factory in dash GPS when I could but a clip-on GPS for $150 - no! My approach to buy or not buy a CVO is, am I generally better off keeping my money in the bank and riding a non-CVO? Yes. For me, buy a non-CVO, put a few customized bit on (nothing over the top) and do a Stage II, perhaps a cam. All done.

I now own a CVO Streetglide and I will not be purchasing any more accessories for this bike as I don’t believe it’s needed. When I come to sell or trade in I’m not going to lose a lot of money and continue to stock up my garage. So yes I believe it’s a good idea to own a CVO. One day I will have to have a garage sale.
