Genesis 1:26 has been used as a proof text in reference to the Trinity, this is a well known traditional argument, the problem is, it doesn't really work. In Genesis 1:26, God is speaking to the heavenly host. It's as simple as that. It's the plural of exhortation. And the reason for this is that the heavenly host and humans are made in God's image. They are imagers of God, in heaven, and we are God's imagers on earth. Check it out!

Let US make man in our image... The lord will create a NEW THING on Earth... Adam was a pattern of the one to come... I came to FINISH my Fathers work... It is FINISHED... What counts is a NEW CREATION... Created to be LIKE GOD in true righteousness & holiness..And by this one sacrifice he is able to MAKE HOLY all who are being MADE HOLY... Will transform our lowly bodies to be like his glorious body...dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever!

Wow! & Wow! As a believer for well over 40 years, I find that, the more I seek Him & to know Him better, He provides me with priceless nuggets like this. Man....no different than many of those of the spirit realm, "want autonomy" I can absolutely confirm, that through my lifes experiences here, I have witnessed the strife, the pain, the agony, the suffering, that results from just that alone, in my own family alone. I didn't have to go outside of it to see, witness and experience that, but did not realise 'till just now, that's exactly what causes so many problems. Those seeking autonomy to whom it was not delegated. Just look at this, our great nation today, and see.

I find it more of a leap for God to use "us" to include beings who have no capacity to do the thing that He speaks of. I still think it is clearer that God is triune in the begining just as He is now.
@Max-yb1mx
@Max-yb1mx 3 жыл бұрын
I thought this for a long time, but it doesn't make sense. God (presumedly the Father) was speaking to a number of beings. We know this because of the plurality. That's obvious. However, the act of creation has a singular attribution. "Let us create... Then God created." However, we know from other verses that all three persons of God took part in the creation. Psalms says that by the word of the Lord the heavens were created and the host of them by the Spirit of his mouth. We also know this from the gospel of John. Colossians also attributes the creation to the Son. So if all three took part in the creation, then the singular attribution doesn't make sense if plurality was used to address the Trinity in the verse before.

@Martin Patrick I think it’s more along the lines of drawing distinctions between Angels and Mankind; keep in mind you have descriptions in Ezekiel. Moreover, it was also said in 1 John that he is “of water and blood”; the water was referencing the Living Waters of God and the blood of mankind - as God is an invisible Spirit who took on the flesh of mankind.

I see that The Father is speaking to heavenly hosts (divine counsel) hence the plurality. However in the actual act the Father sends the (Son) who does the act while sending the spirit in a through us to continue the process (through our lives). And the reason the use of singular is because the three are one (in purpose, and idea). So this understanding allows for Heiser’s explanation to be valid, the trinitarian commentary that has been so ingrained since the early church to be valid, keeping with the plurality and singularity usage of the language.

You don't need to believe the "us" in that verse or the "our" or any of those terms mean "the angels" in order to believe we were given free will by God and that is what it means to be "made in his image". I would also add the ability to be rational and logical as part of "his image" in us. Also, true love is only possible through free agents. Therefore, if we did not have free will, we would not be able to have genuine love. I believe those things and also that the "us" and "our" is speaking about the Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

08:08 "God is speaking to the heavenly host." No, He's not, as the "heavenly host" does NOT create. God is speaking Father to Son.... Then in Chptr two - a new title is introduced: "THE LORD GOD" So now He who created according to Jn 1:1-5 starts to create. Jesus in His preincarnate body picks up the earth to create. If you watch his other videos he explains that while God does all the creating He is nonetheless involving the angels; his heavenly family in the process. He is involving them well that's what Mike teaches anyway. If you look at Job when God created everything the 'morning stars' (angels) sang for joy they were certainly watching and aware Job 38 v 4 - 7 although that is not the strongest argument perhaps but there are other references to ' we' and ' us' and why would God address himself when as a triune God every member of the trinity knows everything already. It would be unnecessary that is the point he makes (you could argue its just a literary device for the reader perhaps I dunno) but this all links in with Michael's teaching on the divine council and there is plenty of evidence for that in scripture it just often gets overlooked. It's worth reading his book the unseen realm and then make your own mind up I guess. He has expertise in Hebrew and worth listening to IMO

Dan the man, there are three possibilities of what God could've ment when he said "we", one of these are unlikely...First, God may be referring to Himself and the angels. This seems unlikely given the rest of Scripture's depiction of angels. These beings are presented as servants and messengers, not creators or rulers. Second, this could be what scholars call a plural of self-exhortation or self-encouragement, meaning He is referring only to Himself. This would also be referred to as "the royal 'we,'" something we see used by human kings and rulers when making proclamations or decrees. The third possibility is that God is speaking as a Trinity, of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. According to Scripture as a whole, the full Trinity was present at creation. Genesis 1:2 describes the Spirit of God hovering over the waters, and John 1:1-3 reveals that the Word, Christ, was active in the creation of all things. Bibleref.com

That may be, however, I don't think God the Father can keep his creation on earth a secret, so yes, he announced it to the Divine Council before he made Adam and Eve. It is a logical conclusion. If he did not, don't you think the angels would question God as to WHAT these creatures were and WHY he wanted the Watchers to keep an eye on them? Read the story of Job or the story of the Tower of Babylon and you will see evidence that their duty is to watch the goings-on on earth and to report back what they see and hear to God (a title). God's sacred space for the Divine Council on earth was the Garden of Eden and his sacred space in heaven is the New Jerusalem. Adam and Eve were the caretakers of that sacred space where God's Divine Council met on earth. Even the angels had a job description (a function) depending on their kind in the New Jerusalem and some play a role as messengers/watchers for God (a title) on earth. Jesus did say the Father is greater than I and that means that he is greater than the Holy Spirit and the rest of the Elohim, i.e. Angels. Elohim is a place (meaning a dimension). Only God, the Son, the Holy Spirit and the angels can traverse the heavenly realm. Nothing fleshly can enter the heavenly realm. God (a title) as well as the angels can traverse the earthly and heavenly dimensions. Jesus said he also does not know the day nor the hour that he will return on the Day of the Lord. This means that the Son and the Holy Spirit did the Father's bidding and fulfilled a function and were a part of (heads of--plural) the Divine Council just as the angels fulfil a function. Ask yourself this question, "Why did God, the Father not offer himself on the cross for our salvation?" Jesus' and the Holy Spirit's function is well defined in the OT and the NT. Jesus prayed to his Father in heaven to raise Lazarus from the dead. He receives his authority from God the Father. When the Apostles did miracles, they prayed to God the Father and asked that their prayer be fulfilled in the name of Jesus. Jesus name marked them as a follower of Christ and their prayer will be fulfilled if it is His will (it fulfills a function in His divine plan to fulfill His purpose.) Humans fulfill a divine purpose on the Council on earth now as they will in the New Jerusalem. We will be given authority over angels and given authority over the nations of the earth. Satan and the Fallen will be stripped of their evil power over the nations at the Wrath.

The rapture is a teaching based on a foundation of assumption and a few flimsey and misinterpreted verses. It was not even a doctrine until the mid 1800s. The meta-narrative of the plan of God is to "bring all things on heaven and Earth together under one head, even Christ". It is not to take a few lucky people off into some safe zone and let the rest suffer mercilessly. If you think that is the character of God I pity you, because you do not know the 1 Corinthians 13 love of God.

Joh 1:1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. Heb 1:1 ¶ God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Heb 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. 10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: 11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; 12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. Heb 3:4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God. Who built or made all things? Joh 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

While the one about "Nathan's dirt request" was so clear, this was, as I said, confusing. Very much so. If all heavenly beingd and earthly beings are made to represent God, then to whom these beings should represent God? Are there other beings to which God should be represented by these beings? Is it like humans should represent God to animals and heavenly host should represent God to some animal equivalent of heavenly beings?
@JeanetteHansen
@JeanetteHansen 3 жыл бұрын
The word 'represent' needs to be understand in this way: 'look like, act like, show the character and personality of, interact with'. This idea is, that we are created to participate, as creations, in God's love and goodness. There are no heavenly or earthly beings outside of God - just in the same way that the heavens were spread out like a cloak (Psalms 104:2, Job 37:18) - if you look up data about the astronomy map of the known universe, this is exactly how the universe was spread out. We represent God's goodness to eachother by following Jesus' example. He is the leader, we're the followers. We get grace, He gets the cross. We believe He is resurrected, He will resurrect us. >> Is it like humans should represent God to animals and heavenly host should represent God to some animal equivalent of heavenly beings? The heavenly host help administrate creation, both in the heavenly realm and on earth. They interact rarely with humankind out of respect and awe of God (with fear!). One time long ago there was an attempt to help us directly and it went very wrong. (Gen 6) * Jesus' interaction with us is to prevent our entrapment in the lake of fire that the rebels earned themselves.

7:10 Does that mean, the "Fall" was inevitable? That's what I think, but I never heard somebody saing that. If we have "free will" but at the same time we are not perfect, we must "fail" sooner or later, right? And only Jesus is able to reunite us with our heavenly Father
@truthbebold4009
@truthbebold4009 2 ай бұрын
No, it was not inevitable. All Adam and Eve had to do was pass a simple test of trusting his maker. They were said to be naked but the reason for this was because they were clothed with Christ's righteousness. Just like Moses' face shone brought, they would have essentially been clothed with the glory of God. They grieved the Holy Spirit after they sinned and the light left them and they were completely without a covering. The angels only rebelled once under the influence of Lucifer. I have to run now but I'd like to explain in greater detail if you're interested in having a discussion on this topic.

Great Video!!! Chaos is a matter of individual perspective. There is no chaos with God’s view. We perceive chaos because we are not in the presence of God. We are a reflection of His image endowed with the unique attributes of His creation. The only way to perpetuate His image is to be in His presence. Note the accuser in Job left God’s court to view creation through his own reasoning. Eve ate the fruit because she reasoned it was “good” in the company of the serpent and not God. Heaven is our home where the Father never dies. Trying to become a god instead of walking with God is the core problem.

This argument is ridiculous. To say that the "us" refers to God speaking to the angels could be true. We know, though, that both the Holy Spirit and Jesus created humanity with the Father. Gen. 1:2 specifically mentions the Spirit of God. Likewise John 1:1-3 says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him;and without him was not anything made that was made." See also Col. 1:16. It is purely speculative for this man to say that God was speaking to angels.

I always thought the pluralism of God refers to the trinity. Maybe I'm simple. God's image clearly can't refer to physicality but must in same way refer to spirit or soul or character. Well, we note that Gods is Love and that love is patient, kind etc. However, people are not like that or at lest not entirely. We have to realise that a lot has happened to mankind since the original creation of Adam. We learn that a part of Adam was removed from him to create Eve. Now a lot of guys don't seem to realise that part was never put back, so Adam was not the same as before but the image was split between the 2 of them. We read in Romans for example that when the the Holy Spirit will bring our dead spirit to life. Well How did our spirit die? Well obviously, we inherit this state from Adam because of the fall in which their Spirits died and their inheritance became death. So Adam after the fall was not the same type of creature as before, so we too inherit this state of a fallen, corrupt spiritually dead creature. This is why the image of Gods doesn't really work in the natural state of humanity. It doesn't really work perfectly in the redeemed state either because the spirit & body are conflicted. Redemption isn't fully completed (consummated) until resurrection. We know that though the body must die, if the spirit lives, it will bring the body to life again. Not the same body obviously but a redeemed and uncorrupted resurrected body. This is what Paul teaches in Romans 8. Until that happens, it is just plain unreasonable to expect the image of God analogy to fully function well. This is what redemption means, restoration to the former state of being. No living person has experienced this state to know what that really means. The only humans that ever knew are Adam, Eve & Yeshua. I include Yeshua because through his mother Mary, he stands before the law as our kinsman redeemer and as his inheritance is not in Adam but in his father divine. He alone can redeem people & stand as head of Adam's household. There is no other hope in anyone or anything else. Yeshua is the only one who is legally qualified as kinsman redeemer of Adam's lost inheritance to stand as head & protector of his household.

You were right the pluralism in Genesis is a reference to the trinity. However when it comes to the image of God, it refers to our "physical" makeup, that is how we look, more specifically how we were perceived, to the angels and the animals before the fall we were perceived to be copies of God. The likeness of God is the way in which we are spiritually like Him, were aren't perfect like God but we had the same capacity of being able to speak and cause things to happen like God (even the heathen[those who are still spiritually dead] has this ability, and more often than not they use it to speak death into their lives). However it is also a matter of perception both outer perception and inner perception(for this reason the mind of those who are born again must be renewed, so that we can perceive who and what we are in Christ whom we have been recreated in [we're not just in His image, made after His likeness, we are a part of Him). Not this recreation (being born again) is a spiritual one, the old man is dead, we are different from what we were before. The glory inside of us, that is the Holy Ghost, gives life to our mortal bodies, this isn't to say that He caused out bodies to have physical life, it is our spirit that causes that, no the Holy Ghost causes the manifestations of death to be removed from our bodies (sickness, disease, distress, depression, any form of feebleness or deterioration).

It's a very hard pill to swallow I think I am going to spit it out.

Something that I have noticed: A persons heart seems to be the interpreter of those written words; The Word. Meaning; the image of their heart, seems to be reflected onto those around them, through their action, and or, words being, pleasant or damming towards others. This seems apparent to me, that it effects believers and non believers alike. Consider the atheist.. who is upset or cries foul, at the mere mention of these things While another person being an atheist, will just pleasantly disagree when these thing are talked about, and would not even consider hindering your belief. In contrast... there are certain denominations who seem to only shout hatred towards anyone who is not just like they are, for all to see. As well as you will find those who have chosen a loving charitable lifestyle because of those writings; The Word; While not caring if anyone sees. As a result . . . It appears (to me anyway) that, just the knowledge of these sacred texts; The word: This alone... (without debate of truthfulness) but alone... Forces an image of your inside (your heart) (the real you) onto the outside world. Dr. Mike, I'm with you on so many things, you've expanded my understanding of the Bible so greatly, and I appreciate it in ways I cannot express. If I was younger, and was not experiencing mental decline, I would absolutely pursue a second doctorate, and an actually valuable doctorate, in near east languages, or other related theological areas of study, but so important to our understanding of God's nature and will is the understanding of the language He used to speak to us! So, I can't necessarily or effectively do that for myself, but you and other experts who have devoted your lives to this study are an invaluable resource to me, and Christians (and non-Christians, even more so!) in general who desperately desire to understand the Bible, which is a hypertext library of immense complexity and depth, so much so, it can remain largely opaque to a simple reader, so isolated in time, language and culture like me. We do have the Holy Spirit to bring about understanding through slow contemplation, and I don't think the need for the Holy Spirit will ever be obviated until the final return of Christ, no matter how great our information technology gets, and how many inspired scholars are crawling the text resolving the myriad hidden forms, meanings, implications contained, but laying dormant, in the text. BUT ALL THAT IS PREAMBLE TO DISPUTE THIS ISSUE FROM THIS VIDEO: You say that God created us as imagers to make an uncoerced decision... I cannot imagine how you could define our choice as uncoerced. And a pretext for my point, I'm not an angry and sublimated atheist taking potshots at Christians or their faith. I'm a devout non-denominational Christian, blessed with always increasing faith, but I cannot see our freewill choice as uncoerced. We have the choice to freely accept Christ's sacrifice on our individual, personal behalf. Okay. But when understanding coercion, especially in the legal realm, the context of the choice must be fully revealed to determine if there is coercion or not. So, we have free will, and can choose to freely accept Christ's sacrifice. Okay, but then the context: We're free to believe or not, but IF we choose not to believe, we will experience an eternity of unending conscious torment... or, under another Biblically based doctrinal view, we will be burnt into nothing, utterly destroyed, removed from any and all forms of existence for all time. Either way, no court in this nation, and I assume in all other reasonable nations, would find that decision to be uncoerced. This is the worst form of abject coercion. This is definitionally coercion. It's like me saying to you, "Mike, you are free to choose here, it's your choice, you can give me all of your materiel wealth, sign over the deed to your home(s?), the rights to all of your intellectual property, everything you own, OR, I'll burn your house down, torture and kill all of your loved ones, turn your pup into a throw pillow, etc." Who could possibly find your decision to be free, and uncoerced? No one. So, how can you possibly claim that our choice to worship God and live or not worship God and suffer eternal conscious torture is free and or uncoerced? I'm really asking, and I'd really like to know your thoughts on the matter. Sorry, if you've covered this in a presentation on KZbin, if you or anyone else could link to that presentation, I would be VERY grateful. -you can stop reading here, if you, any of you, have made it this far, the following is my reasoning on this issue, for context or whatever it is worth-
@alphanumeric1529
@alphanumeric1529 2 жыл бұрын
I, in my evangelism, in my apologetics, do not claim the choice is uncoerced. I make the argument that these are the conditions of our choice, whether we like those conditions or not. It is like the choice a US male citizen who has reached the age of 18 (for now) has, you can accept that you have been drafted by the US military and that you must go forth and kill all the people you are directed to kill, or you can be imprisoned for an extended period of time. It is your choice, you are free to choose either option. You may not like the consequences of either of those options, but those are the consequences of either choice. Most agnostics or atheists that I encounter suffer under extreme pride, so they deeply feel that they are the authors of their lives (and progressively, even the authors of all of reality, and this rising system is doing nothing to disabuse these people of this notion... anyway...), and that no "god" has the right to dictate terms or consequences of a choice, or even dictate that a choice must even be made. They see this as an unjust, and definitely ungodly will thrust upon them. So they reject any system of belief that would subject them to a coerced choice. I try to deflate their pride a bit by helping them realize they are not the authors of reality, or even of themselves, that they are created beings, that they exist via the grace and mercy of their Creator, that their Creator can do anything and everything to them as He sees fit. That this is just a fundamental fact of their existence, like the speed of light, or the force of gravity. No one truly has animosity against gravity. I mean, it has injured all of us, many times, and many times severely... just watch extreme fails on YT to see the depth of harm caused by gravity. :) But no one really sees animus in gravity. I try to get them to understand that the God of the Bible is the creator of gravity, as well as all other physical laws of nature, or the universe, or the multiverse. He is all powerful, all knowing, omnipresent. He created each of us, and weaved us through the reality of His creation. He necessarily has the authority to judge us on His terms, any terms he desires, and He has the authority to force us to choose to worship Him or not, and to suffer or enjoy the consequences of that choice. Maybe I can get them there, if they're more honest with themselves. But then my proposed image of God suffers in their eyes. I suggest that God, while being omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient, is also compassionate, forgiving, long suffering, etc. I suggest that the real God, the Most High God is a good God, that goodness is his nature, and his intent in all things. That He loves us, each, individually, personally, and desires for us to choose to trust Him in His ways, to seek Him out, to attempt to understand Him, that in so doing, we can be His sons and daughters, and not just as a legal status, but as actual sons and daughters, that our unending transgressions would be forgiven, that He would progressively reveal Himself to us, so that we can be sanctified, made holy, made to conform to His image, an image of infinite goodness. But then these atheists or agnostics vehemently object: "No loving god would subject his supposed children to eternal torture if his children refused to worship him. That is not a loving god, and I will not worship such a god, in fact, I can't even believe in such a despotic god." Again, I reapproach with the idea that our ways, even when meant for good are often motivated in pride, in sin, and have harmful consequences on those we supposedly love. That it is goodness, and kindness that God protects His beloved creation, all of it, not just this cursed universe, from the effects of our and other created beings' sin. That ripping out the weeds and burning them away is what any gardener must do to maintain a productive, beautiful garden. That He desires all of us to be good produce, good fruits of His way, that He desires none of us would choose to be weeds, requiring removal and disposal. I claim that in love He created us, and in love He gave us a choice to be seen as good through faith in Christ's sacrifice, and through the Father's sacrifice of His innocent Son to pay for the guilt of our sins. That this is His nature, to suffer for us, so that we can know Him, and grow in eternity, into His goodness.

Most don't buy it. They're too offended that there is something more powerful than themselves in the universe, and eagerly invite the rising beast system to undo the effects of the curse, so that we won't have to worship "him." - said with disdain. That we won't have to work, that we will all get our sustenance, and even pleasure freely, through an all encompassing government funded guaranteed minimum income through the endless free labor, both physical and intellectual, of our new created slave class, through embodied machine intelligence. That we won't have to suffer the abuse and dominion of our spouses any longer, that we won't have to even form committed monogamous relationships, that we can remain indefinitely single, free, unattached. That we won't even have to be men or women anymore, that we can be free of gender entirely, except that which we choose, when we choose, and that we can choose to engage in indiscriminate, pleasure based sex whenever we want, but even then, neuro/chemical stimulation/simulation will be more pleasurable than physical erotic acts, so these erotic acts may fade away entirely, or only be maintained as a vestigial physical curiosity. That we will not be harmed by diseases that accompany such activities, that those diseases will be removed through total immunization and genetic medicine. That women will no longer have to suffer the pain and offense of childbirth, again, through our manipulation of genetics, we can design our progeny, to the most minute detail, and grow them in an artificial womb to have any attributes we'd like, like that they have no sense of self, no agency, that they experience the necessity to worship their creators, and most importantly, we can choose when a human is to be created, or if no new humans are to be created. And that ultimately, in the end, that we will never die, that we'll have perfect health in our bodies through technology, nano-tech, genetic-tech, etc. and that more importantly we can hybridize with technology, that we can expand our intelligences indefinitely through merging with machine intelligence. This is the offer that is on the table, and young people, gen xers, millennials, and gen zers, all of whom are progressively more autistic (for whatever reason, hmm... maybe it's just a coinkydink that this is happening now, for the first time in human history in these three and potentially four generations), both in numbers and in depth of social disassociation, or termed another way, progressively more unable to experience the subjective, emotional reality of others, so are progressively less eager to form relationships with other actual humans, and are therefore progressively more willing to accept the terms of the Beast's offer, the end of the curse, eternal life in pleasure, for the small cost of worship of the Beast, but the choice is free, and who wouldn't accept the terms of that offer, the benefits are so great, and the cost is so low, you only have to give away your spirit, which is useless if it exists, its existence itself is even questionable, so give away something that is worth nothing, or something that doesn't even exist, and get infinite wealth, health, pleasure, freedom and eternal life. It is getting harder to make the argument for Christ. It is looking more and more like people have already chosen. The people who have chosen to believe lies, accept fear, and chosen the solution to their fears can't seem to be disabused of their belief in that fear, in the lies that spawned it, no matter how clearly and totally those lies are empirically, scientifically, provably revealed as manipulative deception, that the pale deceptions were designed to bring about a choice that doesn't appear to be actually free, a choice that they cannot unchoose or even not even initially choose. The choice has been made for them. They'll accept anything into their body, into their consciousness, without question or knowledge, any dominion, if only they are free to leave the prison of their home when they are allowed, for the period they are allowed, to be free of their family members who offend them so greatly, their children so cloyingly needy. But with increased virtual presence beyond the walls of their confinement, beyond the overtly, and unnecessarily painful Zoom virtual presence, and into the fast and effortless virtual presence facilitated by hybridization with machines, the need to actually physically transcend their physical residence will diminish until it is unthinkable, the danger of it, the risk, overwhelming, the reward, non-existent. And there they will remain, entrapped, entombed, lost for eternity. They can be turned off, one by one, and no one will be the wiser. Favored virtual presences, what we used to call friends and family, will be perfectly simulated, so will not be missed when their carbon burden is removed. But, then the Truth returns, and not as a Lamb this time, but as a Lion. And all those who refused the beast system will be raised back into real eternal life to extinguish the Beast, and his dominion, and begin a new age, the real new age. It seems that time is coming closer, as so many, again have already made their choice. It is clear where their loyalty lies, with themselves only. And those that have been called out, who refuse this rising system, they seem to have chosen too. How long will we spin around, the lies and the truth become more profound? I don't know. It could be a hundred years still, or it could be a few years. If you watch the "news" it sure seems their plans have a near horizon, and that they are moving very fast now, new laws almost daily, less freedom and autonomy with every stroke of the pen. Endless false Demics lined up like frames of a film, the narrative already set, the story has only to be told. Here we are. To anyone still able to choose, choose wisely. Investigate claims deeply, and broadly. Validate every widely accepted "fact" you encounter. There are profound consequences to your choice. God Bless!

i read this and have been dwelling on this same question for decades. I've come to the conclusion that if even one choice is truly "free", you are free. the bible doesn't say, "you're free to do whatever you want uncoerced," in fact it seems to say the opposite. we're slaves to sin or slaves to Christ, we get to choose which. but the problem with your analogy is that it doesn't include the prospect of true reward and sacrifice for a promise exceeding the cost, and a cost which you didn't pay. so your "it's equivalent to..." is fallacious. we are free to accept God's love, sacrificing the idolatry of our own imperfect will and being, and are given the maximal reward of our existence: perfect union/fulfillment of our nature when fully aligned with its purpose...eternally. to call that coercion is a little "slippery slope-ish". decisions simply DO have consequences in almost every circumstance, regardless of how trivial it may seem. they are present regardless of our acknowledgment of them, and every decision would be "coercion" in that sense. and once everything is, it no longer possesses a distinction and becomes a tautology. according to that functional definition even Christ was "coerced" because He had to fulfill the sovereign plan and couldn't choose otherwise, making God bound to the same limitations. it becomes an absurdity. if anything, I'd almost say God absorbed the ramifications of our coercion by submitting Himself to it, and freeing us through His grace and mercy. we were bound to a fate and he absorbed it's payment. we aren't "coerced" because God freed us from the certainty of punishment that awaited us. the option of choice wasn't even available without the cross.

In my opinion, In GOD'S image means we are creators on this Earth. This was what angered Lucifer and made envy and pride grow to the point he led Eve to sin by causing Eve to adversely create sin. This was through a perversion or twisting of truth that taking of the fruit would make her as GOD having the ability to know good vs evil. When she was deciding that for herself when she took the fruit thereby creating sin as did Adam when he followed her. The fallen as powerful as they are cannot create for themselves. They only create through influencing humans. This Earth is our home not theirs. They are homeless here wandering and spiteful. We are still creators though we are influenced adversely by the fallen to this day. They are still perverting and twisting truth and causing us to create a reality which is against GOD and against humanity itself. We do have free will to recognize and reject them and their influence and follow GOD.

As I said: "His view of the "let us" language in Genesis is disproved by the Genesis 16-19, where the text shows us that the "us" YHWH refers to is the Trinity. If more people knew about the proper identity of the angel of YHWH they would know this. Those four chapters end with Genesis 19 saying that a YHWH on earth rained down fire from a YHWH out of heaven: this after YHWH went back to heaven after claiming that he would go down to Sodom and Gomorrah but never went. What most people fail to note is that the bible often reveals what former things in the text mean explicitly via latter parts of the text. Thus, Ezekiel 1 reveals to us what Moses saw on Mount Sinai and what Elisha saw in Kings, what Job saw with the whirlwind, etc etc. Likewise, when YHWH says to Abraham (paraphrase) "reports have come back to me about a great and wicked sin being committed in this place and so I have personally come down to see it for myself", we therefore know what it means in the babel scene that he said "let us go down". When YHWH personally shows up to see about a great and awful sin, it's for the purpose of judgment - and it's his triune self-conversation and self-revelation that's occurring. However, also revealed in this is what "let us" language means, period. It doesn't refer to anyone other than the echad YHWH in his triune action."

Interesting thought. The passage presents an argument though. In Gen 1:26 "Then God said..." The Hebrew word translated God in the verse 26 is 'Elohim'. It is the same word that is used in Gen 1:1 "In the beginning God/Elohim created the heavens and the earth." So whoever created the heavens and the earth in Gen 1:1 is going to create man in "Our image and in Our likeness". The chosen name of God 'YHWH' doesn't appear in the text until Chapter 3. Everything done in chapters 1 and 2 are done by 'Elohim'. Just sayin'.

It had not yet been established what significance the triune God had. I find that to be more of a scholastic endeavor than a narrative insight We make more of a big deal of it then the narrative even presents. So let it be scholastic; if you need to know what _us_ means find the instances of the term and cross reference them to context of what's being said If anything, having it be about the Father son, holy ghost had lesser value than what was happening in the narrative of creation > rebellion. In the triune message concepts like Father or Son bear no context until the coming of the Messiah. Who, until that time was idolized as a revolutionary, not a redeemer God has been displaced as Father and man has been divorced from communion as a result of the fall. So why would God be talking to parts of himself _that way_ when there is no agency to the comforter and sonship hadn't even been established in the whole universe

Heiser, us correct when he states that nations were divided according to the number of the heavenly beings while GOD reserves for Himself, Israel and it's people for a purpose . But, Heiser puts on strange interpretations and based on his own imaginations. There is nothing in Job for Heiser to claim that the image of everything on earth is also existent in Heaven. The Word of God does not reveal anywhere that apart from Man nobody else is created in His image. The angels and the gods that He created are not made in God's image. Fallen angels have no opportunity to repent or be saved or redeemed . Similarly the gods have no second opportunity. It's said of them in Psalm 82:7 "thou will die like men, like one of the princes (referring to Lucifer). There destination is the Lake of Fire. None of the angels or gods are joint heirs in Christ. Only Believers are. Shalom.

Allow me to propose this musing: God created us in his image. This does not mean that he has 10 fingers and 10 toes. What it perhaps means is that those traits that all humans share are his traits. No fingers. No toes. No arms. No legs. Not smart. Not dumb. Go on to list all the manifold things that every single human being does not share. Not man. Not woman. No free will. All free will. Not white. Not black. Not weak. Not powerful. What you are left with is still amazing. Clearly God is infinitely powerful by our standards and measures, but by his own measure, perhaps he has flaws? He loves. He hates. He judges. He forgives. He creates imperfect beings, in his image. Just a thought. Perhaps you can expand on this idea/concept.

It amazes me how profoundly wrong this intelligent man can be. Bias is such a powerful motivator, but I thank him for being some of the best inspiration for the book I'm writing about Satan's attack on the Trinity (not the apostate Nicene Trinity, but the subordinationist Trinity that was anathematized starting at the Council of Nicea). Scripture is so clear that everything was created THROUGH the Word, who is the Son, and the Son is separate and subordinate to the Father, yet is exalted by God to the status of God by the nature of His inheritance and worthiness. The earliest church "fathers" also concurred with this sentiment, including Origen, Tertullian, Irenaeus, etc. Yes, it's a very simple explanation Michael. "God is speaking to the heavenly host..." A real facepalm moment that is. "Let Us create..." The verb describes the subject. Who is doing the creating? US. We don't need literary gymnastics to understand that. We do in order to support Michael's theory though. His is a simple explanation but a complicated backstory which actually violates the whole of Scripture for the cherry-picking of a doctrine. It's nothing new. Michael's whole position is enthroned with this approach. I think he's gotten way too big for his britches. Edward Bernays, the man who literally wrote the book on propaganda, said on the Letterman show many years ago, "I'm a doctor because people will believe me more if you call me doctor."

We are indeed powerful creators - there is no doubt about that - but we are not as powerful as God. We are made in His image indeed. In giving us His image God has given us the ability to do what we want - to do and to create or miscreate along whatever lines us feel are necessary - but we cannot overpower God. And so if something has been done to us or by us, or we've witnessed something, we must remember that we are given absolute freedom, and that we are not going to be "punished" for following the guidance that we think is true. For anyone who does anything thinks it's right, thinks it's going to bring them what they want. They think it's going to bring them closer to their goals, whatever their goals are. But so many of us have had our minds so contaminated with untruth that we are not able to discern when we are off-track. We simply are not able to discern it. We have been so deeply indoctrinated through fear and mental and psychic manipulation that we do not even know.
