Jesus ! I never thought in my lifetime I would ever hear her truly get the proper recognition that she deserves. No other song in history has ever made me actually see music. "Mac Arthur Park " no one will ever be able to top that . Bomb vocals, bomb music and arrangement . Her voice and that song, brought me through some very difficult times in my life and I'll never forget it. I always liked music but,that song made me love it ! My Girl always !!!!!

i still can't believe she's gone. of all the 70s & 80s icons we've lost over the years none hit me harder than when we lost Donna Summer. my first introduction to her music was when i was 6 years old, her first big hit, Love to Love You Baby, was being played everywhere. being really young I didn't know what all the moaning and groaning was about, i thought some poor lady was getting hurt. so that song scared me. later my mom bought I Remember Yesterday and played it all the time, I think that's when I became a lifelong fan. she had such a beautiful spirit, and she was definitely a trailblazer. i consider her the beginning of the modern female pop star. without her i seriously doubt there would've been a Madonna, or Prince, or Janet, or Jody, and the generation that came after them. thanks for the video. it's nice to see she's appreciated for more than disco.

This is the best tribute to Donna that I have ever seen! Spot on! Hot Stuff earned Donna the inaugural Grammy in the Best Rock Female Performance category. She would go on to be nominated two more times in that category. Donna was the very first female artist to have two singles in the top 3 of the Hot 100 (Hot Stuff #3 and Bad Girls #2). She would repeat that again a couple of months later with Dim All The lights and No More Tears (Enough Is Enough with Barbra Streisand). Donna, still to this day, is the only recording artist to have 3 straight #1 double albums on the album chart. Donna also had a #1 country hit as a writer when Dolly Parton took the song Starting Over Again to #1 on the country chart (Donna co-wrote the song with her husband Bruce Sudano). In an 18 month period (78-80) Donna had 8 Top 10 hits. It was unprecedented and no other female artist has done it since. Not Madonna, Janet, Whitney or Mariah!

Everything she sang needs to be preserved for eternity - her influence is felt to this day! Her DOUBLE LP concept albums are timeless classics.....LIVE AND MORE is a masterclass in vocals and crowd control - Once Upon a Time is a dreamy masterpiece of early synth-pop ARTISTRY and BAD GIRLS, every track is magnificent to this day....encompassing rock, pop, gospel, light country, and what would become R&B~! she was truly one of a kind and more than just the Queen of the Disco, she was and is the Queen of all genres to me. Glad that I got to meet her and have fond memories of the woman that she was and the humble and very talented soul that was taken way too soon from this realm....her musical legacy lives on each time we hear a woman since dance music today....she not only opened the doors, she ripped them off the frame and paved the way for every female artist that came after, even if they don't know it...!

The best of the best female singers, top of all them all. I feel love is like the first original mainstream electric dance song. Her greatest hits cassette was permanently on my walkman and used to listen to it full volume. Bad girls, Mc Arthur park, no more tears (WOW), Dim all the lights and a long list of perfect songs. My favorite song from all times, the number one is a Barry manilow cover she did, "Could it be magic" I F%&$G love that song. I met her back in the late 80's when she came to Mexico and stayed at an Uncle's hotel, the Aristos, in Reforma Ave. She signed a poster for me and a cousin which I don't know what happened to it. I remember how beautiful and nice she was. She had a very strong pressence, she was a godess! I couldn't believe I met her. I didn't speak English very well at the time so I asked my cousin to tell her that her cassette was my favorite. She smiled and thanked me. Those 5 minutes are in the list of the highlights of my life.

That was a wonderful tribute. Thank you for that. Donna was much more than the Disco tag she was labeled as. She ventured into Rock, pop, and R&B. What I loved about her catalog is that it is so varied. She either wrote or cowrite most of her songs. There are just too many songs to pick a favorite; I loved them all, but I will say the ones dearest to my heart are #Ifeellove #ThistimeIknowitsforreal #sheworkshardforthemoney #tryme #lastdance #carryon #hotstuffbadgirls #Idontwanttogethurt. The only negative thing I will say is that the black community never honored her like they did Whitney, Aretha, Gladys, or any of those other phenomenal singers. Before there was Whitney, Celine, or Mariah, there was Donna.

When I was working top 40 radio in the '70s and '80s, I had the opportunity to have dinner with Donna Summer and her husband as a guest of her record company. I even got to sit next to her at our dinner table. Frankly, I was kinda expecting her to be the sort of diva that her reputation might have suggested. But she was anything but. She was down-to-earth, soft-spoken, polite, smart, funny, kind, and really, pretty much everything you would hope a person to be. I came away from that dinner totally won over and a Donna Summer fan for life. I always liked her music, but was never a huge, huge fan...until that night. Today, looking back, I believe Donna Summer is one of the most underrated female vocalists of the 20th century. I put her in the all-time top ten, easily. What a talent! And what a loss when she left us much too soon.

Thanks for this awesome tribute to the late Donna Summer. Though she is well known for her dance hits, it's a pity that her softer side in music was largely overlooked too. I am happy to share five of my favorite Donna's ballads, three of which were duets. Had her record company give Donna more support to promote them, these gems would have easily been great hits as well. From Cats Without Claws, the gospel "Forgive Me" thankfully provided her with a well-deserved Grammy for Best Inspirational Performance. From All Systems Go, the wonderful duet with Starship's Mickey Thomas "Only The Fool Survives. From She Works Hard For The Money, a duet with gospel singer Matthew Ward on "Love Has A Mind of Its Own". From the soundtrack of the Sylvester Stallone blockbuster Daylight, "Whenever There Is Love", a duet with Bruce Roberts & finally from the Quincy Jones produced Donna Summer, "Lush Life". RIP Donna !

Having seen her perform 'live' on three separate occasions, I have to honeslty say her voice was incredibly powerful and far more beautiful beyond than what the studio captured. Her last vocal performance 'live' for David Foster and Friends was the October before she passed. The song was 'On The Radio', and even though the ravages of having lung cancer and seeing a much thinner Donna, she sounded great(like always). May her spirit live through us every time we listen to her music._

When Donna Summer recorded MacArthur Park, she recorded it in ONE TAKE. My favorite Donna Summer - It's Only Love, I'm Free, Forgive Me (Live), and You're So Beautiful, Sometimes Like Butterflies, and of course MacArthur Park and I Feel Love, and EVERYTHING off of the Bad Girls album (it was a rock album, it was incredible. The balads on that record were amazing, unusual, and Donna!) We were alone in a studio and she started to sing Dreams by Fleetwood Mac. My jaw dropped, because she suddenly transformed from Donna, our funny client, to DONNA SUMMER, the Legend and my favorite singer. She noticed the look on my face and asked if I knew the song. I said, Yes, would you sing it again? And she did! Just for me. She was my friend, my Mother, My Sister, and even my Fairy Godmother. When I die, I look forward to hearing Donna sing LIVE and IN PERSON again... When she sings in the Spirit World, she can bend the universe.

Love, love, love, love Donna Summer! She is amazing and she is terribly underrated because she has one of THE best voices in any music genre and is hardly ever mentioned as a great vocalist. It's a travesty! She's right up there with Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand, Arerha Franklin, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion but you hardly ever hear her mentioned even though she was a huge superstar during her time who truly ruled the late 70s and early 80s. I'm with you on McArthur Park! The McArthur Park Suite (which includes "Heaven Knows" and "One of a Kind") is an amazing opus; not only my favorite Donna song but one of my all time favorites period!! There are you many to mention but love "I Love You," "Hot Stuff/Bad Girls," "Fascination," her live version of "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," and a lot of later material like "Melody of Love," "I'm a Fire," "I Will Go With You'," "Dinner With Gershwin," "Lush Life," and so many more! As you can see from the list, many were album cuts that were not hits or single releases.

“I Feel Love” was a revelation when it came out in ‘77, and has remained one of my all time favorite songs, but one of my other favorites is another synth heavy, non-single track from the “Bad Girls” album; “Lucky”. Over a Moroder electronic beat, Donna sings a song about going out looking for love and the empty feeling that often results afterwards. Melancholy and dance-y simultaneously.

At the height of American Idol , every great female singer was compared to Whitney Houston. I always compared them to Donna Summer. Look up her version of Oh Holy Night from Solid Gold in the early 1980’s. My favorite version of all time. I heard it as a kid and never forgot it. She knows when to hold back - singers don’t know how to hold back for additional effect. Watch how she handles the microphone... That makes her singing all the more powerful!!! ❤️❤️❤️
@henrythegreatamerican81364 жыл бұрын
The problem with Whitney Houston is she never wrote any of her big hits. She was just the voice behind the songs. Same with Pat Benatar. While I enjoy a few songs from both of them, I wouldn't call them musicians. They were great singers. They were the American Idols of their generation. They definitely had vocal talents and good looks to go with it....
@HitItMusicNL4 жыл бұрын
@@henrythegreatamerican8136 It doesn't matter who wrote the songs, as longs as the songs were good. Donna Summer co-worte many of her classics, but she didn't co-write some of her biggest classics like 'Last Dance', 'MacArthur Park', 'Enough Is Enough', 'Hot Stuff', 'State Of Independence', 'Sunset People', 'The Woman In Me', 'Protection', 'Who Do You Think You're Foolin'', ''Cold Love', 'I Don't Wanna Get Hurt', 'Breakaway', 'Carry On', but she made the songs her own when she sang them. Same goes for Whitney Houston, who also deserves all the recognition she can get. She was no less than the great Donna Summer. I like a great song sung by a great singer. It doesn't matter who wrote the song, as long as it is good and does the perfomer justice.
@JimmieJamOfTheDay4 жыл бұрын
I don't have an issue with Whitney but the thing that for me that puts Donna above Whitney is the fact that Donna could change up her voice. She could sound different from one song to the next and sometimes you wouldn't even know it was her. Whitney sounded the same. Not a bad thing. She sang in the same voice wonderfully. However, I liked Donna mixing it up by getting in character and vocally acting the lyrics out not necessarily as herself.

You and I think alike so much. MacArthur Park is just about my favorite Donna Summer song . Lot of memories would that particular song. MacArthur Park cake out in the rain. Strangest lyrics of any disco song.

Thank you for such a wonderful Review... She Truly was an underrated singer by the industry! One of my favorites was The Wanderer both album and single.

I had the pleasure to see her 2 times. Just as good as ANY vocalist of any era. Always made you feel welcomed no matter who you are. Most UNDERRATED vocals I ever heard. TY!

Her vocal on McArthur Park (the extended version), is stellar. A song with the worst lyrics ever is a song she absolutely nailed! It's so good you ignore the awful lyrics. She was fantastic, my favorite female singer. What other singer could pull off "Love to love you"?? Only Donna

Great presentation you gave. I was privileged to see Donna 3 times in concert, 1977- a most memorable night she performed over 2 hours with two encores / 1978 at Universal Amphitheatre in the audience recording of her ..Live and More double album..so magical ! And 1979 her colossal hit album - Bad Girls. She was such a gifted artist, and is very much missed. Donna will forever be a legend in the recording industry... RIP Songbird .

She was the origins of everything Modern Music had/has to offer in terms of her voice resonance and range which is second to none. The reason why Donna Summer was in a league of her own is because she could sing anything and gave every song its own style; its own character. Donna could sound like anyone from Rod Stewart to Bruce Springsteen to Tina Turner to Aretha Franklin. She covered many Genres of Music. Easily the best Female vocals the Music World has ever heard in terms of Style and range.....but Donna Summer was NOT about her 'Ego' but rather about the Music. She just wanted to Stylize every song and sing it too. I would advice everyone to get into Donna's entire body of work starting from 'Love To Love You Baby'...

@@frederickleo2386 Thank you Frederick Leo!! It is the truth though, isn't it? It really describes how she was in terms of her personality and how she applied herself to her work. She was NOT a 'ShowGirl' like Madonna ('Mad Donna') or Kylie Minogue who really don't have the vocals or its power but rather compensated with their stage shows (Image). Donna Summer didn't need to move at all but her voice moved everyone and everything. She didn't need to put on a Spectacular show but no one could touch her voice. They only tried to emulate. Her Music and singing style were way ahead of their time. Take great care Frederick Leo and stay safe please : -))

@@kojoharrison630 yes,yes i agree. She was beautiful and a marvelous talent.... her voice did all the "showing off". On top of that she was also humble, funny, and spiritual. Ive been a fan since the age of 5! Such a brilliant songstress with an ethereal voice... i miss her dearly, but am so happy she left us with these deep impressions and fabulous music to last for years!! Im glad you share the love too... thanks for the well wishes, you take good care too 👍👌😊

Great segment on one of the greatest female vocalists of all times. Back in the day Donna Summer was to me what Beyonce is to her beehive fans. My top 5 are LAST DANCE, DIM ALL THE LIGHTS, LOVE IS JUST A BREATH AWAY, BAD GIRLS, FASCINATION.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Donna Summer was and is a vocal genius. In addition, wrote most of her own songs. Needless to say, the moment one hears Donna's first note on any given song you know is the incomparable & unforgettable "Donna Summer" rip.
