No, with the hyperbolas the variable a squared is always the denominator of the positive term and b squared is the denominator of the negative term...and since the hyperbola is opening up the positive term has (y-k)^2 as the numerator and the negative term (x-h)^2

I need to do a video on that this year. My textbook covers rotations of conics, but it is not on my counties pacing guide so I have not taught this in a lot of years. I am teaching 4 different classes this year, so I am just trying to keep up with my new class of Calculus and getting notes and videos ready for that class. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

In ellipses and hyperbolas "a" is the distance from center to vertex or half the distance between the two vertices. If I said differently, I will need to add an annotation correction. Thank you for watching.

Different books can use different notation, but no book I have ever used has the variable (a) measuring the distance from center to foci for ellipses or hyperbolas. Could you be thinking of a parabola and (a) measuring the distance from vertex to foci?

In your video you mention that (a) in {c^2 = a^2+b^2} is equal to half the distance from vertex to to center but in my sat text book it is mention that its half the the distance between 2 Foci
