Programming Jeep Keys

This was a good one for me. Programed my first key, no issues. My original keys have button issues and no longer unlock the Jeep. Saved me over $500 programming 2 new keys. 2010 Jeep JKU.

I tried this and it worked! 2 blanks from keylesstogo, $12 Locksmith charged my $5 each to cut the keys Total cost: $22

I was bummed because we only had one key FOB but had an aftermarket key (no unlock/lock buttons just a key) that I used first (the 3-15 secs.) Then our only key FOB to activate the programming and it worked! Thanks for the video.

I got a Jeep patriot 2014, and i only got one jey fob.. can i do same way You did ?

@@tonyweis08 I mistakenly said it was an aftermarket key I used (not a FOB). We got one gray, one black (door only) and a key fob. I think if you got a the original key(s) with your Patriot it should work? I don't see why not. I really don't know much about how it worked, just that it did! Good luck!

Also worked on my 2007 Grand Cherokee with after market fobs. The cluster shows "Programming Mode" on the car when you put the second key in to let you know its working.

The bows on these keys are too big to fit many of the key cutting machines, and "locksmiths" in New York want $125 just to cut my blank. I was so fed up with driving around looking for someone to cut a key that I found a Chinese key cutter on ebay for $115. Works great! Never again will I have to beg one of these thieves to cut a key for me!

Can you use a Transponder key and the primary key to program another keyfob? My Jeep is an 08 Jeep Liberty Sport the only came with the Transponder Key and Keyfob, the original owner lost one of the keys and only got a transponder to replace it. I have the new keyfob already cut and ready to be programed. I will try your technique with my transponder key and see if it works. Otherwise I might have to pay an arm and leg to get it programed. Thank you for sharing.

What if you have only one key? Can you program a key from off another Jeep?

I do not think you can do anything with one key, but a few people have commented that you can… I couldn’t find any information that said you can do anything with one key. If you find it, post it in the comments here!

I have a 2005 Grand Cherokee; I have two working keys. I bought two separate keys from Amazon. I tried to program with this method. After second key is removed, it says programming mode. When I insert the third key, it says, "Key not programmed" and then it says, "Damaged Key". I find it hard to believe that 4 key would be damaged. All 4 do the same. The seller says they are the right key. Any ideas?

If you only have one key, take it to a local locksmith that does automotive keys. They’re able to program a second key without going to the dealer and then you can program your own keys

I’m not sure this will work with a liberty… look in the owners manual. If you don’t have it, google the manual for your year/make. It will be listed under “sentry key”

My vehicles OEM key lists FCC-ID OHT692713AA. I bought a blank from a seller, who's site has listed the blank to be proper replacement to FCC-ID OHT692713AA, but with a different FCC-ID 2AOKM-CYV3, which I have received. I tried to program it following your instructions, but it does not work. Would you say seller is incorrect and the aforementioned 2x FCC-ID are not compatible?

I am not familiar with the FCC-IDs of these keys. I’m not much help there! The keys I bought on Amazon say they work with key that have the following IDs: OHT692427AA and OHT692713AA. Based of what I’m hearing, maybe they sent you the wrong key?

I have contacted the seller and seller stated that the key they sent was an aftermarket replacement for the OHT692713AA and has it’s own FCC-ID, which may have a different number. However in it’s response to me, seller did not go as far as saying that it was compatible. But in the advertisement seller clearly claimed that the key they are selling is OHT692713AA. So I sent them another message hoping they will do offer a solution to me. Maybe even a proper ID key. Fingers crossed.

Not sure in Jeep. On GM vehicles, you can use a module to bypass the VATS, or tune it out.

Does anyone know where I can just buy the plastic part of the fob and just add my old key and chip system to it? Without having to use the key it’s sent with and just swap it out with mine. I bought one on Amazon and could not place my key in there.

Because that’s how they built the system. You have to have at least two “sentry keys”, to program more keys yourself.

Vendor did send me two new keys after the first two didn't work. That's why I had 4 keys to program.
