Aloha, Jeremy. So lovely you’re not disturbing the mamma wren. Reminds me when my husband was re-slating a roof in Scotland (in February! Brrrr!) and he came across a nest of seagull hatchlings. He delayed disturbing the nest as long as he could but the day came when he had to do the nest area. Luckily, the fledglings flew the nest that very day.

I’m north of you in the south of VA, Blue Ridge mountains. This is our fourth summer here, just the hottest and most miserable. The last three years, we really didn’t have uncomfortable temps until August and then done. This one started getting heat waves way early, so it was like Spring was just a few days long. Yuk. Even elevation only helps by a few degrees. The town is the valley is worse, but not by much.

Yeah it's gotten progressively hotter each year for the last 15 years.

I built window trim boxes like you but with primed MDF. (Which I don’t like but that’s what the rest of the house has) Before installing I glued the casing to the box so I wouldn’t need to use nails. They look fantastic. Perfect miters, no nail holes and real sturdy. I got the idea from Richard at Finish Carpentry TV. The only drawback is that it takes a lot of time because of glue drying wait.

I have found a drum sander like the laguna supermax 19-38 that I got, makes it a dream to sand the faces of boards when doing projects...so depending on how much more wood you are doing (ie how far behind the videos are), a drum sander may make the flat surface cleanup a lot faster. Good job on the window framing. :)

You do great work! The only thing I wonder about is, I saw that you didn’t put stain and maybe not finish on the edge that faces the window. Won’t condensation seep into the wood there and cause it to rot? I know you live in a humid climate, so I wonder about it. Oh, also, I think the bathroom needs some of Jaime’s artwork either side of the mirror!
