I just find the whole dynamic of this herd Interesting. Each horse is working through their own emotional wounds in this new herd. That’s what I see anyway. Buddy is working through grief. Ransom is no longer alone and lonely. He is reintegrating into herd life. Belle is learning about being loved and cared for and trying to figure out boundaries. And they each have made incredible progress these past few days together. So beneficial for each horse individually as well as each learning to be part of the herd again. Love it! Can’t get enough.

My mare has early arthritis in her knees (too many years spent kicking stable doors for food, when people were feeding their horses), she lives out 24/7 now with access to a field shelter. My vet told me that the best thing for her was to keep moving, the more she moves the better she is. But i also give her equine america glucosamine in her diet to help her out a bit during winter and spring.

Baxter, my Uncle's late horse, was taught how to open latches and push gates open. Perhaps his spirit can give Buddy more ideas, lol. As for Ransom and arthritis. It is better to keep him moving. Stalling him will just stiffen him up more. He would be sore now because of working out his place in the herd. But it will even out at the end. Nothing can be done except pain meds which will loose effectiveness, heat compress on sore joints helps my grandfather's arthritis in his knees. That could help Ransom manage pain in he is in pain.

@Nicole-qc5dh3 жыл бұрын
I agree Rick. Ransom's owner said he has been diagnosed arthritic by the vet. The worst thing you can do for arthritis is be dormant and not moving around. As a human with the autoimmune disease of Psoratic Arthritis, I can attest to the importance of exercise in maintaining lower pain levels. Locking him up in a stall or small pen isn't going to do him one bit of good if it's arthritis. There are some great supplements out there to help, but I know that 1) He's not your horse and 2) I'm more than sure you are well aware these things exist. I personally don't think Ransom is all that uncomfortable and he's exactly where he should be, looking handsome in a pasture with some friends.❤ You're doing exactly the right thing with this horse and I love seeing it unfold!

I have been commenting A LOT lately but... I just love you and your videos. Been watching for years and you're one of my favourite horse people. And here in Sweden there's a lot of ignorance. I read a Monty Roberts book when I was 11 and became obsessed of this different and kind way to communicate with horses. My first try was a very disrespectful stallion. The minute before the idea came to mind of practising what I've read, the stallion ran me over and didn't bother one bit that he stamped on me. Luckily his pasture was round and the size of a round pen, and within 10 minutes with only a rope and never touching the horse, he licked his lips, gave me 2 ears and 2 eyes... And then he followed me around with lowered head like a dog. I'm now 32 and I still thank that horse for making little me succeed that day, and actually prove to me what I read was true; there is a way for us to make the horses understand and willingly follow us. But there's not a lot of us here where the English traditional riding style is more common, sadly. I try to educate people by linking your channel 😉

Lol, they are so cute and doing great. Hopefully they will keep getting better each day and Belle can come have a sleepover again. I understand that isn't in the picture for a bit. Rick you are such a great dad. I'll be so lost when my girls pass. They are not just wonderful company but my big girl is the only reason I didn't pass 5 days after my husband had. I have the bad type of AFIB and my heart stops duringthe night, Bear puts every bit of her force in the kicks center of my chest until I physically am able to sit up, touch and talk to her. After about 10 minutes talking to her she will go back to her bed. So far it's been 7 time's over the last 5 years, 8 counting the copperhead snake I didn't see but she jumped between as it was striking. The vet said the reason she leaned into the snake is she knew it couldn't get through the 4 coats of thick fur but could have her legs. She is a corgi/ wolf mix. Her chest compressions feels like I'm being kicked in the center of my chest by a horse because the bones in her short legs are like tree stumps. The other plus is people are scared to death of her, she has silver eyes and if she thinks you are up to no good they go pure white ( no color except for the black pupils) lol she's a big baby and great with kids. I have to buy special food which is so hard to find, she has seizures and food triggers it more, so it's chicken free, grain free and gluten free, dye free. My little girl can eat whatever but I literally begged the girl out of her. Donald and I kept on her for 3 days, took her to the vet because she had deep stab wounds and only the size of a coke can when we did get her. The x-rays showed at some point every single little bone in her had been broken, her teeth kicked out and the right side of her throat kicked hard enough to almost completely crush it. So you can bet both of them are spoiled rotten and they deserve to be spoiled. I can't believe a female did that to a little Chihuahua. She is so sweet. I couldn't find anything better than my fur babies. They were so much help when my husband passed away and I deal with pain and 11 major surgeries and still that left to go through But days I don't want to get up I do because I know I have to for the girls. I just want you to know how much I love, appreciate the love and compassion you have for not just the horses but all the critters you have around. Thank you for being such a wonderful human.

Hey, Rick. You can put some of the Diatomaceous Earth into Mokies food too. And your own! Food Grade is the best. Also is excellent as a flea control in animal coats or in your carpets. Will kill pests with an exoskeleton, via suffocation. Absolutely brilliant stuff.
@sylvisterling87823 жыл бұрын
Best way to pronounce the D.E. stuff is three words "Diet to meshes"But the 'meshes' is with a long A. "Diet to MAYshus." What it is, is the exoskeletons of tiny critters, called "diatoms" (pronounced Diet-Tomz'). It's used as a sort of micro-cleanser and absorbent. My Dad used it in his pool route to clean out filters. It can be ingested, as yours is, and is perfectly safe. It's also used in cat litter for its absorbent properties. If I recall correctly, it's actually sterile material, or can be sterilized.
