Soundgarden "Blackhole Sun" guitar lesson. Next, we're using the TECH 21 Roto Choir to mimic the fast Leslie speaker played by Kim Thayil. The Roto Choir is set to 'Biamped' mode to replicate the dual rotor sound of a Leslie 122, which gives the guitar a complex, swirling tone. Starting with Drop D tuning, the bulk of the verse stays on the high strings with triads that sustain into the cosmos. The chorus ramps down to the slow rotary speed and finally uses some drop D action with a hard hitting MXR Distortion III. One of the coolest chords with this tuning is D7no3, which contributes to this riff's moody sound. Enjoy your riff of the day guitar lesson!

Just judging from live performances which are in standard pitch/drop d, it sounds like they sped the tape up for the album. Zep used to do this too. I don't think it makes sense to tune half a step up and then 'drop d#'.

This series of three guitar chords, reminds me of the guitar parts during the end coda of Linda Ronstadt's 1974 cover version of "You're No Good." I mean, try and play that song's ending guitar parts through the Leslie sometime.
