His large coffee isn't $1.45, it's $4.25. He's drinking one $4.25 coffee a day, and by cutting that out of his budget he gets $4.25 a day for food. If you divide that by 3 for the amount of meals he's having a day - brakfast, lunch & dinner - it comes out to about $1.45 per meal. TL;DR: ONE COFFEE - THREE MEALS

To be honest waking up an hour early, and taking my time cooking a great breakfast and lunch to go helped me get alot of motivation for the day. Throw some music in there whatever you feel like in the moment and maybe if thats your thing 10-15 minutes of meditation or yoga and you start the day with almost too much energy.

My girlfriend just recently cut coffee out of her budget. Her job has free coffee everyday in the break room and she realized that once she adds cream and sugar like she normally does, it really doesn't taste that different from the stuff she would go out and buy. A lot of work places have free coffee for their employees so I recommend everyone go with that. Maybe buy some flavored creamer to spice it up a bit. It's crazy the amount you save when it all adds up.

I have two jobs and they both have coffee all day long. My second part time job has a Kuerig and they always have Coffee mate flavored creamer for us. Yes I know the K-cups are a landfill waste nightmare. I would never buy one for myself as I feel they are too overpriced, the coffee is overpriced, and yes all of the plastic waste. I always keep instant coffee at home for that quick cup on my way out, or caffeine pills. Works for me.

Thing is, Starbucks is overpriced and doesn't taste good at all. They use powder for chocolate, powder, powder, stale coffee. Go to Wawa or Quickcheck, fresh coffee, a fraction of the price, any flavor you want, and most of the time it's on sale for a buck for each size, and some days it's completely free all days, no limit. I don't get it!!

You can buy green tea bags for super cheap in bulk and get your caffeine and it's better for you too. Another tip about green tea.. I had a gum infection and nothing I did would help it.. listerine baking soda salt etc. almost had to make an emergency trip to the dentist... drank some green tea swished it around there.. got better within hours. Couldn't believe it. Also read that green tea can even help heal staph infections which are super tough to treat. And poor people who drink green tea frequently, have much less tooth loss.

Ï am new to this channel. I was having a similar discussion with a friend when I was in the states who said that they could not afford to eat home cooked meals. And the cheap stuff that they could buy was "crap"... I call bs... For 2 people (3 including myself), I fed a family of 3 for under $40 for the week, about $15 of the ingredients were dried herbs and spices that would be used for the year. Also things like potato starch, corn starch, flour, rice, et cetera. They also now have Chives, cilantro, Oregano, Parsely, and basil growing on the windowsill. :) I made risotto ai funghi, Thai style pork au gratan, Miso Ramen, Fettuccini carbonara. Pan Pizza and doughballs with Garlic butter, Quiche Lorraine, and Chicken en Croute. Breakfast was easy enough, as was lunch, I even had enough materials left over for Eggs benedict on the final Sunday. I made a sourdough starter for pizza and bread. Taught them how to make bread, though they did complain that it was not sweet enough... (I think US bread is REALLY sweet). Taught them how to make pasta and Ramen noodles. By the end of the week the next door neighbour's kids were involved. I made rough puff pastry for the en croute, surrounded by a mushroom duxelle, sure, I don't expect 4 star techniques from a new beginner, but they wanted to learn. I was shocked that so many people don't cook... I don't have enough time, or I don't have enough money. It's cheaper to get takeout. In Europe we always cook and go out maybe once or twice per month. Bread is baked at home, not because it's too expensive, but because it's better. There's nothing better than the smell of freshly baked bread. Making Pasta is easy... takes 10 minutes to make the dough, and 2 minutes to cook, one recipe, a thousand variations. You can fill ravioli and tortelloni with anything you want, and a tomato, or cream sauce can take 10 minutes... or 10 hours.

I cut my budget in half by just weighing out all my meats as I prep my food. I never realized I was eating over twice as much meat as a lean healthy person. I wasnt fat, but I still learned that my portions were not remotely normal. It still took me a year to break the habit and for my body to finally adjust and feel full with these smaller portions. I mean I use to spend $7 on a 1lb steak and eat it as one meal. Now I can stretch it out to 2 to 4 meals when mixed with cheap carbs and veggies. A keto lifestyle costs about the same as a normal healthy carb-filled lifestyle too as long as you know what you're doing. My mom just sent me a $20 box of cookies that I gave to my friends and never touched. All I could think was "mom, you could've bought 10lbs of chicken on sale for the price of this fucking junk food..."

Plus, she couldn't send you 10 pounds of chicken in the mail...that would be disgusting. And doesn't really say "I love you." Tell your mom to take the tags off your gifts so you can try to be more grateful for your many gifts...Penny pinching other people's gifts is not a good attribute, a gift is meant to be a rare indulgence.

Need to add some coffee in this great video! Most people aren't buying a cup of coffee in the morning because they want to, but because they need it and don't have time to make coffee each morning. I started making my own Cold Brew because i was tired of buying coffee and the coffee machine my company provides isn't the best coffee. All you need is 2 cups of medium grinds (less than 5 dollars), a gallon jug and cheese cloth bag. Fill the bag, tie it off and fill the jar with cold water and let steep for 12 hours (I usually do this Sunday night). The next morning take out the bag and either put the whole jug in the fridge or put into separate mason jars

This is awesome! Though nobody NEEDS coffee, people end up dependent on it but if you get through a few weeks not drinking it, you don't need it to get you going anymore. Regardless I enjoy coffee occasionally and am trying to produce as little waste as possible so I'm 10000% trying out this method!

While I absolutely LOVE these video series you do (They give me a lot of ideas for different cheap meals :)), the main problem is this: The people who say they can't afford to cook, usually don't know how to shop. They don't know how to hunt for good deals, they don't like bulk, they don't like non-name brand, and sadly, some of them think they have to shop at the expensive stores (I'm looking at you, Whole Foods). What would help those people more, is learning meal planning and doing it mid week when the sales fliers for their stores come out. That way, they have their menus, and know what food they need to buy for them. Which means they get less waste, than just going out and buying a bunch of inexpensive food, that then goes bad because they don't know what to do with it. You might consider a new video on how to stock your pantry on the cheap. Because your older how to shop videos went a little more on the expensive side. Use the rule of thumb for these on the cheap videos, and apply it to a pantry stocking. :)

You can freeze just about anything. Just make sure it's air tight so it doesn't acquire fun tastes from the freezer. And when I say anything, I mean it. For example, if you have a few hours of free time today and extra cash to spend NOW, you can get some tupperware, make a bunch of meals, store them in the Tupperware how you want it to look, let it cool off without the lid on in the kitchen then move it to the freezer covered to save for later. Bought a bunch of vegis and fruit? Cut it down to how you want it, diced peppers and onions, broccoli florets, sliced squashes, whatever...and bag it up and freeze it. When they thaw it will be as fresh as when you put it in. Then take all the scraps and throw it in a pot of boiling water, let it turn into stock and you can save it for a few days in the fridge or for however long in the freezer and use it for fresh soups. I cook at a private school and any excess food we didn't put out on the line we freeze if we aren't using it for another dish in the next few days. Only thing we don't really save are like....cooked vegetables.

Never try to cook when you are hungry, make meals ahead of time or do the prep ahead of time so all you have to do,is put it together quickly. Try having a salad mixed up in the fridge without dressing, first you eat your salad while you are cooking the rest of your meal. Cooking ahead of time saves the time and even money. Do as much prep ahead of time, one day a week. I try to make a large salad mix twice a week so it lasts about three days per mix, I just put in bowl and dress it. The rest can be warmed up or quickly cooked as it is already prepped. Good luck :))

Paying over four dollars for one cup of coffee just seems insane to me. Put the price of one more cup of coffee with it and purchase enough coffee AND cream AND sugar to last a month or two. Many years ago EVERYONE was walking around with their big cup of Starbucks coffee so I went and bought myself a cup to see what all the hype was about. I still don't know. It probably was one of the worse cups of coffee I had ever purchased and I had paid an obscene amount for it. That was my first and last cup of Starbucks coffee.
