In middle school English class, I was asked to give an oral report about my greatest achievement. Beating Zelda 2 with no walkthrough was the one I chose, as none of my friends had beaten it by that point. I'll never forget how negatively that teacher reacted. "That's not an achievement!" she exclaimed after I gave the report, completely crushing all the work I had put into it. The grade she gave me made my own mom pretty angry, so she came into school to have a talk with the teacher. I wasn't in the room, but the teacher changed the grade after my mom was done chewing her out. The teacher was extremely biased against video games, and had graded my report based on the subject matter rather than how well it was written.

Oh yeah, I absolutely hate teachers who can't keep objectivity when grading papers. You can send in an 8th grade level report on something they enjoy and get an A, and a college level paper on how teacher's pay should be cut, and get a C- for your lack of insider knowledge.

Has anyone thought of how terrifying Link's 'Adventure' is? All of Gannon's minions are out for his blood. There are literally huge patrols of them roaming the wilderness searching for him. Every bridge, mountain pass, and cave has monster patrols. There's a graveyard in the game bigger than all the towns combined. And he has to defeat his own shadow at the age of what? Thirteen? Damn, he earned that triforce.

I've just realized something. Advertisements like the Blue Apron one in this video don't really bother me. They promote Video editors to make them interesting instead of appealing to some market. It's a way more charming way of advertising than, let's say, annoying banners on websites or something. Keep them interesting, Jared. They're great IMO. €: There's been some interesting points brought up. I personally really approve of the personal spin on it instead of an advertisement company trying their *utmost hardest* to get a friendly, clean and regular, normal ad out there. Having ProJared or PBG sell me on something is way more interesting since, well, they're whacky and I like that. Have a great day guys!
@Kektus18 жыл бұрын
Yeah, a fair few content creators do this pretty well too (JonTron comes to mind, maybe a few others I'm not aware of). It makes the ads less invasive than just sticking in a generic read-off in the video or attaching banners. And even if they're not worth watching to someone, they're pretty easy to skip.

I think that spot belongs to Links Awakening. Zelda 2 also gets unfair treatment but a lot of people dismiss Link's Awakening despite it introducing a lot of new things to the franchise. Things later games often take the credit for with the fans. Defense being an active thing instead of a passive shield, a story that doesn't have to do with Zelda or Ganon, A trading quest, and possibly other elements that have since been recurring, but people just ignore the fact they came from that game.

Yes. Not to mention that killing them gives you nothing. I don't even think they count towards the game's "kill five, get a potion" trigger that almost every enemy works off.
@kered138 жыл бұрын
They're pretty easy to deal with though, either by timing your attacks right or just jumping over them.
@LorenHelgeson8 жыл бұрын
True enough. But as they are all risk and zero reward, they really are bullshit enemies.

Zelda II is legitimately one of my favorites in the series. It's amazing and one of the best examples of Nintendo-hard games that were also completely fair.
@VladNorris8 жыл бұрын
...except it wasn't completely fair. There IS bullshit design choices and the punishment for a game over is overkill.
@Ryusuta8 жыл бұрын
VladNorris Honestly, I think game overs SHOULD punish you more than they usually do in Zelda games. But I suppose that's a different design philosophy debate. I absolutely 100% respect your opinion on this.
@VladNorris8 жыл бұрын
Well...BALANCE. I'm not saying modern Zelda games aren't super easy(the damage cap of enemies has been lackluster for quite a long while) or they don't need to be more punishing(Breath of the Wild is looking promising BECAUSE it looks far more punishing...among other things), I'm saying this one went overboard.(It's NOT fair challenge to be sent to the beginning of the fucking game when you get a game over in an adventure game. It's a buzzkill and isn't tied to challenging game design).

Yep. That and the fighting system are a large part of why I gave up on Zelda II rather quickly.

For some reason, I always love it in his intro when he swings around that game.
@mielthesquid65362 жыл бұрын
12:15 in fact there is a technical reason for that. It is not even a game design choice at first. It comes from how the game was made in Japan. In the japanese version which plays on a disk the last dungeon is on a face of the disk while all the rest of the game is on another side. This is why it would have been impossible to reset Link to the begining of the game once you reach the last dungeon without asking the player to change the disk side and I guess they thought it would be annoying.

Dungeons are confusing and easy to get lost in sometimes, because at least a couple of times you have to jump through apparently solid walls (jump, not walk, because they have ledges that are above ground level) in order to progress with no indication that they're anything other than ordinary walls. At least in Zelda 1, LttP, OoT, and most other Zelda games, you have a general idea of where false walls are (cracks, only being in the center of dungeon walls, sword "tinks").
