One of the most important and crucial steps to any build is setting proper timing. I cannot tell how many dsm and evos I've seen lost to skipped timing or poor maintenance of timing components. I tried to give the best instructional video here but always refer to a manual when doing this. Hope this helps!

I just did my timing belt, balance belt, pulleys and valve cover gasket on my 97' GST and now have low vacuum at idle, -10HG with a slightly rough idle. Once i changed the balance shaft/timing belt and confirming timing marks on cams and on all pulleys were correct, I rotated the crank sprocket clockwise by hand a few times to ensure the timing was still in alignment. Once confirmed, i started my engine and it idled fine. I put the 3 drive/accessory belts back on and everything and then changed my valve cover gasket. once everything was finished, i stated the car again and my vacuum reads a low -10HG when before the work was the usual -18/19HG at idle. It does not idle smooth and I can't figure out why my vacuum is -10HG at idle... If the timing or balance shaft belt timing is off by 1 tooth, can this cause -10HG at idle? Do you think I tightened my calve cover incorrectly? Can over tightening the CAMS cause this to happen? I didn't touch anything on the BOv side of the engine to cause a leak in the intake system, I just raised and lowered the engine while swapping belts... any insight would be GREATLY appreciated!

very good vid.i did my belt for the very first time on my chariot GT.took my time and got it done.i didnt know about the greanade pin thing..for tensioning..my grenade pin did go in out..so i got it right.lol

do you have a dsm tuners profile? I've watched all your videos and we are on the same path so it's pretty awesome to see someone doing it all and being well documented, keep up the awesome work man!! love the vids you post

Well I read that those torque specs are for a DRY bolt. When you put locktite, the bolt is no longer dry and the torque values change. I read locktite recommends that you deduct 20% from the original torque specs... Had the car held up since?

Good step by step vid, it's exactly how I setup my 6 bolt timing. But just FYI, it sounds like someone is taking bong rips through the hole video. Not that I care lol😉. Must be the music.

Its your zoom motor. Maybe move closer vs using the zoom so much.

Just a note for Evo 4-9 guys, this is not how timing it done on our engines. Timing marks on cam gears point upward toward notches on the valve cover, the rest is the same though.

The tensioner pulley is also upside down in this video - not sure if it's an evo thing, but the two holes on the pulley should be below the bolt, not above

6 bolt and 7 bolt are different.

No kidding, first one I had was mechanical and it lasted a whole first try of using it lol. Made sure I asked for a digital one this time.

@@daniel1997gsx just paid off a snap on digital torque wrench for my build. after using my friends a while back, I cant trust any other torque wrench.
