To anyone wanting to try this procedure. Pay close attention to what I say here. This dude who ever he is, is a damn transmission expert. I don't know his back ground nor his work history. However I rebuilt a 1995 4L60E by watching this video. I put it back in the car yesterday. I have maybe 25 miles on it now and it seems to operate flawlessly. The special home made spring tool he has made will help you lots. I can't express this enough. Once again if your gonna do this yourself buy the kit he is using. And follow his directions to the T and you will be fine. I promise the hardest part of all this is removal and replacement of the transmission. And be very very very anal about keeping everything spotless. This video has saved me lots of money. As it will you.

I removed,rebuilt and replaced the transmission in a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer 6 weeks ago. A great experience. I am 80 years of age and I had never seen the inside of a automatic transmission. All went perfectly. If I can do it, you can too.

i've got about 30,000 miles on my rebuild in my 01 suburban. i tow my boat at least twice a week on mountainous roads in the summer and drive it every day to and from work, and everywhere in between... i purchased the master rebuild kit from Jimmy, and besides the expert step by step advice, the parts were super reasonably priced, and exactly what i needed to perform this rebuild. the knowledge i now possess from this awesome learning experience i now understand so much more about my vehicle and how it functions... thank you Jimmy! thank you Transmission Bench!

Thank you very much for your videos. I have spent about $5K so far to two people for my 700r4, I was starting to get disillusioned with money down the drain. Up until I watched your videos I had always thought repairing an automatic transmission was out of my capabilities even though I am fairly reasonable with my mechanical abilities. I was able to take my laptop down to the shed and watch the video, pause, and do the work then watch the video again to make sure I did not miss anything. The good news is that the transmission is back in the car (1936 Chev sedan 350/700) doing everything right first time without adjustments, without oil leaks. Words do not describe how happy I am right now. Thank you for sharing your classroom type tutorials they were easy to follow, nothing left to confusion or doubt.Rod (from Australia)

This video series on the 4L60E rebuild is by far the best that I’ve seen and it’s free. I echo what everyone else states to follow this as close as possible and it’ll make it easier if you buy the same kit he uses in this rebuild. I have never done anything mechanically related to a transmission other than clutch replacements and I’ve successfully rebuilt and reinstalled my trans out of a 2001 Chevy Tahoe 4x4 using a similar rebuild kit following this video series. It’s my new daily driver, paid $800 for the vehicle because it wouldn’t go into reverse and everything else was fine. Only need time and patience.

I watched this entire video production and I think it is outstanding and I plan to use it in future to solve problems with my transmission. I notice some of the video segments are out of sequence and high jacked to other video productions about the 4L60E so I think the producer needs to update the links at the end of each segment so the flow is natural for the entire video production. I am not an expert at you tube and I know my video production segments are out of sequence for each of my play lists so I hope to learn how to do this myself. I can point out the errors via private message or here if needed. I plan to burn the entire video production to blue ray DVD as soon as I can so I can go from part one segment one through the entire production without having to search or use the internet as I rebuild or repair my transmission. My transmission I think only needs minor repairs to the valve body and adjustments and some improvements from Sonnax and others mentioned in this video production and others. Outstanding video! Thanks to the people who did this production!

My experience: we bought Jim's kit that includes everything and its all in order w each part in a labeled package. Jim's system ( kit) is what made it a successful rebuild for my son and I. I couldn't imagine achieving the results any other way. Hope you get the same results we did w Jim's transmission bench kit and the USB drive instructional videos already to go and in perfect order. this guy saved me $3000 with this series. its one of the most valuable things ever uploaded to youtube. watch everything in the series before you even buy any parts. watch them again when you get the parts. watch them again video buy video as you install them. if he misses a detail (he cant get them all), look for a video from someone else to cover it, then come back to this series.

Thanks a lot for your wonderful videos. I've just rebuilt my first 4L60e from a Corvette 1995. I followed your videos step by step, with a double check in the book, and for now it works...! I've done all the bushings, changed the solenoids, the plastic pistons. I was I little bit scared about doing modifications. I was able to stack 8 clutches for the forward 3/4. The end play was checked 3 times.. I spent 45 h non stop to do this job. I'm sure you're laughing about that, but your videos doesn't deal with the cleaning of the 600 parts included in this transmission. Your transmission is perfectly clean and dry. That's not really our case.If I can give you an advice for next videos, tell us how heavy and how hard to install are somes parts when all the seals are brand new. Anyway I saved a lot of money and the garage where the transmission was removed was clearly surprised that I did it myself. In France nobody knows to do that job.

Wow, I thinking of rebuilding my 4l60e myself. I've rebuilt 3 Chevy sm blocks and other Chevy parts, Never a Auto Transmission! But out of Necessity I am rebuilding my transmission! Money & lack of it! This Video set, is great! Very nice Job, I'm watching tonight and probably will as i start on tranny! Out in Shed. May even take a 20" TV out to see more details, eye's r get old! Just finished rebuilding my 4L60E. Thanks to Jimmy my '02 Yukon lives again. Took my time, enjoyed the process, learned so much. Purchase your parts from Tranmission Bench and you get the added benefit of being able to email/call Jimmy if you have any questions or need support. You won't regret it.

Great series. Two things, don’t use the feeler gauge to install the reverse input seal, it will cut the seal. Also be gentle when compressing the spring cages, they can deform.

Do not fear the transmission! Follow these videos closely and you can make it happen. Jimmy, was fast about shipping the kit I, ordered from Transmission Bench. The rebuild went perfect and the transmission works like new. The only change I made from these videos was to install a transgo shift kit. Do not forget to order your parts from Transmission Bench.

I have a 4L60E transmission.... Getting a check engine code of PO758 (Shift Solenoid B Electrical) I dropped the pan, Fluid was bright red, no debris in the pan or on the magnet... I replaced shift solenoids A & B. Tested the connectors with my power probe and was told that I should read ground on both terminals on both connectors (they only read ground on one side of each connector). I bench tested the solenoids with a 9V battery and both old worked correctly. I bench tested both new solenoids and they both worked correctly. Since I purchased new, I installed them. new filter, reinstalled pan, filled with fluid and then test drive. Shifted from 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, check engine light comes on and transmission shifts to 3rd as i lost 1st and 4th gears... I had a new transmission harness in stock for another transmission rebuild and I plugged it into the truck harness. I only had grounds on one side of the solenoid connectors, so I assume that the internal harness is good. I am at a wall, any suggestions on what could be wrong??? Thank you for your help!!!!!

I am working on a 2008 Chevy LS : Warnings to any one that is going to try and attempt this in their front yard: - the engine drops to about a 22 degree angle when you drop the rear support bar for the trans and once removed will go back to its original position that will not allow you to reinstall with easy; I used a pressure treated 2x4 about 1/8 in longer (already compressed so won't bend much)and wedged it placed it under the crank shaft pulley to maintain the position. - the neutral safety switch on some models is glued on , on 2008 it had an odd removal pin that pulls down to release the harness put rust release spray on the bolts to the exhaust for, let it sit for days to prevent braking those bolts- add it with your finger on the 4 oxygen sensor also. I was able to remove 2 and 2 stayed on the exhaust(release the clips you can. - I marked the position of the rear axle by marking line from rear axle link up to the front u joints - i have heard they are balanced, i can't verify but mark them , also mark the torque convert bolts relative to the converter before removing, three of them . ( the mechanism is a fluid coupling and has the bolts in a star pattern that seam to be at the same distance from each other, so it technically shouldn't be a problem in reconnecting - do not use cinder blocks as the pressure may be to much and collapse on the jack , use pressure treated 2 x 4, - I used a modified center screw jack with a 24 mm bolt cut into the place of the lever mechanism , then took angle iron and measured the pan and rested points that would go in between the bolts on the four corners of the pan, bed frame angle fits well, i also put a center angle with point facing down to rest into the slot that the jack has at the top swivel , make sure your able to pivot as it will help in install, you can also use a trans jack, if you don't have one : 2x4 framed out to support the bottom of the trans around the pan, just remember to make sure it won't slide off the center, I used the metal angle to form a support square that has on edges facing down and flat on pan , corner angles on the sides of the pan , cut 2 pieces of 2x4 at 24 inches, connected under the support using 6 inch pieces to form a square ( connect them that you have about 4 inch space through the bottom that will allow you to insert the jack, the center angle is welded on the pan support triangle down to insert into I plan on welding it before install under the truck to join the jack and prevent slipping when raising it. give the jack a wide base on caster wheels to prevent it toppling over with a quick movement - take pictures of everything and explain it to your self on video as you take it apart, their is a lot of mis information from straight faced people, do not trust any one about how to properly do it, get the repair manual from the dealer, and watch as many videos and talk to as many pros before attempting, do not clean the trans with any solvents and do not use bearing grease or trans gel of any kind, it will eventually clog the system, use full synthetic oil on all assemblies. - be carefully with valve body check balls, its best to remove it as though you were under the truck as the check balls will stay in place after removing the valve assembly from the base, do some detective work and you will spot the wear points of the check balls if you move them around, one has 2 possible locations, again the manual is the way, not the fake manuals on line but the dealer one - sand down (150 the 220 grit sand paper with square flat block the mating surfaces of the torque converter nub that insert to the fly wheel as well as the insert point, and both engine and bell housing. the torque converter needs oil and needs to sit fully in the bell housing, it should engage both sets of splines, pick it up slightly as you twist in a circle to engage them - do not use white colored metal bushings, use brass and use a press if possible. there are many more things that I don't have space to write, just do your research, keep things organized and track ( pictures and descriptions of your removal and dis assembly process. - good luck you all, remember that youtube and the internet in general have become a place to misinform ( notice the spelling of things and those who do not show you all aspects of things, usually they leave something out while seeming to tell the whole truth or make you sabotage your own truck or car. and God bless us all.

one more, the torque plus bolts on the bell housing use a "Cheater bar" as our host says to be removed as they cheated when they put them on, the metal is soft and the they will strip, hold the trans in place , keep your hand tight on the driver to prevent you from losing the straight angle while using a breaker bar attached at the end of the driver, i used the back pipe of the jack, fits into the 1/2 "driver. Slowly turn and they release, just keep the 90 degree angle to the bolt and they won't strip.

the square 2x4 support has the blocks in the upright position, the square connecting points on the side keep it stable and are resting flat on the top edge of the 24" pieces , I cut 1/8 slots where the angle pan support rests and this prevents a forward or rear slide, just keep it balance on the jacks swivel head, i welded it and gave the jack a wide wheel base so it doesn't tip, use a lever strap to keep the base and trans together until your just next to engine.

Only thing I'm worried about is how to clean the case after everything is removed an how to dry it so it won't rust?

​@@Executnr Well if that's all your worried about then your a in good shape or your not fully aware about how complex it can be, or how things can become complicated, case in point, - the bell housing bolts that require a special wrench, and as he calls it, cheater bar, he is right they will make you break it if your not carefull, take a long bar, put a extended pipe and make sure you push in at the base so you do not wear out the soft metal those black screws are made of, game over if you do, or like I had to do, weld a medium 1/2 extension onto the bold after griding it down, and then, boom baby, but how many have special welding equipment, point is, this can be done, just cover your angles and be prepared for the worse.....btw, the case is alluminum, use alcohol and a rag that leaves no lint, no fuss....any small particles will be picked up by the filter. Also , realize that everything is commercial, they want things to break and wear away, im getting into making my own systems, these engineers are dead wrong if they think I buy most of their BS....Good luck everyone.

Hi, great lessons and good teaching I’m thinking of having a go at rebuilding mine. I had a question I’m in Australia I have a 2006 Ute which you may not of heard of anyway it has a 4L60E, they have codes on the such as 7HSD, my question is some 4L60e have different colour pcm plugs, such as brown, green. My is a brown colour, the auto trans code is 7HSD If I’m looking for a second hand one to rebuild. Do I need the exact same trans codes and colour pcm plug ? Thanks

Hi, Great videos. Any idea's on the following. 4L60E Transmission has developed harsh 3-4 and 2-1 shift transitions. More so the longer you drive it and more so when barely under acceleration, IE when coasting / gliding. 3-4 is a harsh dump into 4th. Not a smooth transition. 2-1 when gliding into a stop it clunks into 1st at the last minute. It's almost like a delayed / stuck reaction .-.-.

Replace it w a new one NO EXCEPTIONS. And make sure you put 1 qt of fluid into it before you install it. Next very important: make dam sure you slide it onto the shaft and get it ALL the way back into the case. You should hear 3 clicks... I express to you 3 clicks not only 1 not only 2 but 3 clicks so that it is all the way back into the bell housing so that you have the clearance you will need to install it properly. Then after you get the transmission bolted onto the engine reach in w your finger or a pry bar and flop it forward onto the flex plate. Then line it up and bolt it.

Could you do the same series of videos for the GM GM 6-Speed 6L80? I don't know how different the 6 speed is from the 4 speed but I need information on my 6 speed out of my 2007 Cadillac Escalade. If you made the same kind of videos as you have for the 4l60E I think I could reman my transmission. I have never seen a series of videos like what you produced for this transmission with such a calm voice and easy to understand even with my bad hearing. Thank you very much. I hope you will post a series on my transmission too.

Just be up front with him as he gets bombarded with calls from people that did not buy his kit and want free advice. But you can tell him what your thinking of doing and he could get you going in the right direction.

I have a 07 Hummer H3 do you recommend the Sonnax rebuild kits. I have the 5cyl 3.7. I want to put level 3 rebuild. What do you recommend.? Is there any way to adjust going into 4th gear, it changes at 40 mph and plugs the engine. The car came with 265 size tires. I put 285 I would like to go up a size 305, will this adversely affect engine. What should be done for bigger tire. Where is your shop, could I have you rebuild my transmission.

Ok. I swear i followed this exactly like he said but i installed mine in an 04GMC Envoy and i have no reverse or any forward gears. I used a 2wd transmission i tore apart but use the output shaft for my 4wd. Would that have something to do with it? Im not sure where to begin looking.

hello plz I have 4l60e on 6.0l gen 3 I have a transmission problem R n 1 working verry well 2 n 3 n 4 don't have a power on hight Rpm more than 2000 start to slip when I give a little throttle more than 2000 rpm starts to slip shifting down slow shifting a little by hand i have slow shifting between 1 n 2 , 2 n 3 , 4 with slipping when rpm start to more then 2000 I have rebuilt it and same problem you think torque convert ? thank you

would like to refresh a 100,000 trans - same model but prefer to be there every step of the way over "x" days from when case is cracked etc. to learn and observe which is politically delicate with any shop unless one ids a retired tech or one man shop, etc. or just run until it grenades at 200,000 thousand or ??? enjoy this so far, but a hand full for a novice
