Hands down the N63 king of KZbin. I’m very impressed. I’m extremely knowledgeable in these cars as well and these engines but you are very talented. The only and I mean ONLY thing I would do differently is maybe clean up a lot of the old parts or components. That front strut assembly looked pretty rough. It takes a lot to handle this motor and make it work again properly. If you ever want or need any parts for these cars please let me know. I just got some brand new genuine bmw Garrett turbos from the dealer for $548. Bison performance is a new aftermarket/OE suspension company from the USA that makes incredibly affordable parts for our cars as well! Awesome job.

Thanks James, you’ve been a big fan since my first video! Always appreciate the comments. For the strut and some of the other components, I understand what you mean by cleaning them up a bit more. For me, I won’t go too crazy on things like that as they’re under the car and bound to get dirty again. Obviously things that are more visible I’ll polish up nicely. When everything is wrapped up I’ll be doing a full detail on the car.

Oh absolutely. Just curious as everyone does stuff slightly different. And you being in Canada, I see why. Thanks for noticing me following your content. I truly love my X5 and there’s really no one EVER that is willing to attack these engines. You are the best and I watch all the big channels. Nathan and Sreten are great but the N63 is shot down by almost everyone. If my motor locks up I’m calling you right away. If you need any parts at all feel free to ask. I’d be more than willing to help you out!

I have the ability to do a lot of the work you have done but I do not have all the tools, time, or expertise to open up the engine. This also is a 750i with all the air ride/dynamic drive and all the million other options and sensors that not most N63s have. ONE, JUST ONE MISTAKE or forget to clip,re-assemble, plug in, or do just anything wrong it can be a nightmare. And this was all done in what looks like s 1-car garage? Absolutely unbelievable

The squeak is your rear main seal, because of a bad PCV valve and/or seal. What you have in your crankcase is too much vacuum, not pressure. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5itmGerotulr7s - same case here, solution was a new PCV valve
@bimmer.doctor
@bimmer.doctor Жыл бұрын
Thanks Abdo. The reason why I wasn’t sure was that I already replaced the whole PCV system. It ended up being a defective part. In the next episode I’ll show the comparison between the two.
@andrewawad1405

Was here to let you know it was the pcv valve as well. I replaced mine and it was defective out of the box. Unfortunately the bad pcv valve caused so much internal vacuum in the motor the oil cooler lines were sucked in completely and restricted oil flow. This led me engine to develop an upper noise tapping sound. A $100 bad pcv valve ended up causing catastrophic failure. As long as you caught it early your engine should be fine.

It sprung up to the position it would be when the car is on the ground. So if the arm didn’t spring when it was released, that would mean it was torqued incorrectly.

@bimmer.doctor
@bimmer.doctor Жыл бұрын
There have been cases of engines seizing with failed rod bearings, but it is not as common as say the S65 or S85. Unfortunately this engine has so many other problems with valve stem seals, turbos and just general leaks that it makes them extremely expensive to maintain unless you’re able to do it yourself. The later engines were improved but the design is still that basic things like a valve cover gasket require the engine to be removed!

What is the trick for connecting the steering shaft? Mine doesn't move enough back and forth for me to reconnect.
@bimmer.doctor
@bimmer.doctor 9 ай бұрын
On this 750, both the steering shaft and the steering column can move, so make sure the steering wheel is pushed all the way in and you should be able to get enough room. On some cars the shaft does not telescope, only the column.

What lift do you have in your garage? Will it work for 3-series and 5-series?
@bimmer.doctor
@bimmer.doctor Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes it will work on a 3 and 5 series. It’s just a generic scissor lift and it actually works better with smaller cars. This 750Li was the limit of how big you could get on this lift. A two post would be easier but then it takes up space in your garage when you’re not using it. This one goes flush into the floor so when you’re not using it, you have the full space

I’m looking at one with n63 engine that has a replacement engine with 90k miles that has been reworked. After 8k miles it needs injectors. Has new turbos and lots of other new stuff. He’s willing to sell it cheap. Thinking about older s550 or Jaguar xj which is the best car for now and the future? Also know of 740i with 90k original miles that needs basic maintenance and brakes seems like a 740i with the 6 are probably going to be more popular in the future with the performance mods that can be done. Can probably replace injectors myself and do basic maintenance. What do you think. Thanks
@bimmer.doctor
@bimmer.doctor 9 ай бұрын
Well, the N63 is a troublesome engine. As you see in the series, there are a lot of things to go wrong. A 740 would be more reliable with a straight 6 and it would be much easier to work on. With the N63, you need to remove the engine to do even simple things like valve covers.

what’s everyone’s opinion on the 2009 N47 engine 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’ve just bought a bmw 318d and it’s currently on 154k chain replaced in 2020 around 120K I’m constantly worried about the chain snapping on me even knowing it’s been replaced if I change the oil every 7k will the chain last 🤦🏻‍♂️

I’m not familiar with the N47 at all, but I would say if the chain was already replaced at 120k, assuming the job was done right, you should be good for a while with regular oil changes
@kNIGHTriderryder
@kNIGHTriderryder Жыл бұрын
I have had n47 but in the f30 the chain is not as bad as some affected cars , the oil you use is 5-30w and 7000 miles seems very right to avoid any problems . The best thing you can do for this engine ( not sure about law of your county ) is egr will cause alot of carbon build up in intake manifold either delete that system totally , or clean your manifold regularly say every 5000 miles easy job few 10mm bolts you may not have swirl flaps on the 318d so no need to worry about them . If you want to be extra careful just stick some oil treatment liqui moly
