Love how honest this channel is. Not everything goes smoothly and sometimes the car fights you every step of the way!

Working with hard-to-find parts is really tough. Kudos for taking the challenge of rescuing this Audi 5000 CS !!!

I am not familiar with the Quattro, but for the e brakes on my '87 5000S there is a procedure for adjusting the tension on the cables so that the brake pads grip tightly when set, but also release fully. Check in Bentley or Haynes. It's a simple adjustment. The cold start valve can be easily removed and held in a glass jar while an assistant turns the ignition key to start. A good short shot of fuel should be seen. If it isn't check the electrical signal to the cold start valve. If there's current at key turn the valve is bad. Replacement is easy. My limited understanding of the CIS-E III engine control system is that the current to the differential pressure regulator mounted on the front of the fuel distributor is increased to enrich the fuel mixture and help start the car. The amount of enrichment is controlled by the coolant temp. So, be sure the coolant temp sensor mounted right above the thermostat on the front of the engine is good. Inexpensive sensor, 2 mins to replace. Just below the coolant temp sensor on the engine block is the knock sensor. I just replaced this the other day on my 5000S. 5 mins, easy peasy. My engine always ran well, but the new knock sensor improved it even more. The engine is smoother than ever, feels/sounds new and the car is 34 years old. You are doing an outstanding job. I've learned many helpful things from your great videos. My 5000S has had a few near death mechanical issues over the 12 years I've owned it, but has always come back strong once the problems were fixed. The 5 cylinder engines are rock solid and with regular preventive maintenance can go at least 350,000 according to the Audi tech I bought my 5000S from who took care of the car for the original owner.

You’ve taken on a huge challenge. I thought the E39 OFHG, CCV, LCA,… was tough enough. Good luck with this and keep your videos coming. You’re excellent at these videos

I love watching you work on a classic Audi 5000 turbo quattro. I live in Europe and have a 1987 Audi 200 quattro and a 1990 Audi 100 Sport turbo quattro. Excellent cars! These are some unique treasures. Keep up the good videos👍😄

These are great videos for anyone who, like me, owns/drives a 36 year old Audi 5000. I noticed a can of CB Blaster sitting on the garage floor. I mention to all who see this video - that stuff is fantastic. If CB Blaster had been applied and allowed to soak in for a spell before trying to loosen the rusted connections on the fuel accumulator the breakage would never have happened, saving loads of time and trouble. Any time I'm working under the car where rust is the worst I always put on CB Blaster and let it soak, sometimes for a day, or so, if the rust is really bad. Given enough time to do it's thing, CB Blaster will loosen just about anything. As a last resort, if the situation demands, and if it can be done safely, I will apply heat from either a heat gun, or a torch. CB Blaster + heat has never failed to loosen the worst rusty connection.

I had one of these in 2001 and it was hard to find parts back then. You're a hell of a masochist, but I dig it.

I love these project cars, it's a lot of fun watching you methodically sort things out. the fuel accumulator replacement gave me flashbacks, I had similar parts availability issues a few years back with an 80s Peugeot. I no longer have that car but I have two big plastic totes full of fittings and cohline fuel lines. speaking of 80s fuel injected European cars, I'm no CIS expert but I believe that, in the case of hot start problems, the first thing that everyone suggests checking is the vacuum lines, you probably have a leak somewhere

May be an ignition problem. Check the Hall sensor.

I had Audi Minneapolis install a 443 906 087BE Audi fuel pump that I supplied. This pump does not need a working fuel accumulator. The failed accumulator can be left in place or removed if it is in danger of leaking.

If my fuel pump runs after i turn on the ignition can i remove the fuel accumulator also ? Audi 2.3NF k-jetronic

I"m trying to recall, is there a cold-start injector at the rear of the intake manifold? I know some CIS systems used that.
@PracticalEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
Yes there is, and it could be faulty. However it seems the starting issue is both cold and warm.

Did you ever find the issue why it wouldn’t start right away

Yes, it was the fuel injectors leaking.
