A side note... In my experience in the US (Arizona) with importing paperwork/registration, the lack of registration in NZ should not make a difference. Proof of purchase and inspection slips are all that were required (Basically everything you acquire via customs). The out of country registration was negligible in my experience. They consider it a grey market vehicle as long as it is 25+ years, so the process isn't too grueling.
