Always a good movie to watch, I've seen it several times now and it's always refreshing to see and remember how it used to be in the "good, old days" when imagination and the thirst for adventure were important in a normal person's life. This movie brings back some very, nice memories .. thanks for downloading it!

It was fiction. It still is. We'll go to the stars right after we have fusion power plants -- which have been 30 years away for the last 60 years. If the apocalypse -- which has been only ten years away for the last 70 years -- doesn't happen first. To quote VP Cackles: “it’s very important ... to see the moment in time in which we exist and are present, and to be able to contextualize it” Or Yogi Berra: "The future ain’t what it used to be." Living on Earth at the current time is good. We shouldn't be disappointed that a mythical future was a myth. We should not have believed it and should start smelling the roses that are around us today.

Love the Gravitometer!
@dahawk85742 ай бұрын
But it is misnamed. The meter does not measure gravity. Aircraft have accelerometers. And they're scaled to read in g's, with 1g being the accel of gravity on Earth's surface. So gravity serves as the scale for acceleration. And the meter reads total acceleration. So that is why it is an accelerometer. NOT a 'gravitometer'. Common mistake. Even astronauts speak of living in "no gravity", even though the pull onboard the space station is ~90% of the gravity we have here on the surface. At no point in all of human history has any astronaut experienced zero gravity. It is a condition that simply does not exist anywhere in the entire Solar System. And in this movie, as with all spaceflights, at no point did anyone experience anything greater than 1g of acceleration due to gravity. The max you experience is while sitting on the pad. Same as while you're walking up to the rocket. Gravity will ONLY DECREASE from the moment you launch.

I love the signs on the walls, like Please Don't Walk On The Walls, and Salvation Army (I still have not figured that out), and DANGER! There's always a Danger sign somewhere. Blatant sexism was part of every day's life. They knew nothing about actual crewed spaceflight yet. They hadn't even achieved orbit. Spaceships/spacecraft were still called ''rocketships''. In the movies most spacecraft looked like V2 rockets, or like flying saucers. Etcetera, etcetera. I wonder what people 50 or 100 years into the future will laugh sbout when they watch present day science fiction.

In the 70', the county put a road on the south side of our property and adjusted the property boundaries to accommodate the new public right of way. They did this by shifting 100% of our boundaries to the north in the county records. Ever since then, the county and the GIS show my neighbors barn to be on our land. It's not. It doesn't confuse us, but it still causes confusion with the county assessor every few years.
