Very happy to see young people doing stuff using ancient and eco techniques . First time i see a oven made of clay and using "hand tools" .Very nice. And now you can make pizza and your own bread also. Keep on

TIP: to avoid snagging the pizza paddle on the tile edges when scooping a pizza out, lay the floor tiles on a diagonal to door entry.

As i now, that oven is normally close, do not have a Center hole (chimney) ,it need to preserve the heat inside to transfer to walls, them we remove rest os brass, and make bread and meal... a big one, takes 5 hours to get very hot, and last for 24h in working order. i thing the pipe will lost a lot of heat, a curious thing is that in the beginner of fire, the walls start very black, and passing the hours of heating, they start to get white and clean ( were we know that is starting to be good to cook. never the less, a good job done. cheers, sorry for the bad English :)

Awesome stuff! Also have a suggestion for you guys to look into. Grow a bamboo patch wherever you want to mask the highway noise the most. There is a particular satisfying sound coming of swaying bamboo sticks which is just the right amount. Also it grows really fast and is an excellent building material. Some of the bamboo sprouts are also edible. Only thing you need to take care of is making a barrier around the patch so it doesn't wander off.

Thanks for including the mixing and testing part! For whatever reason, mixing and testing is always glossed over in KZbin videos. Without that, you can’t actually try it yourself. I mean, I guess I could throw things together totally at random, but for that I don’t need instructions and what’s the point anyway? Regardless, thanks for the explanation.

A little tip in building the fire. Start in the door way until you get a small bed of coals, then slide it into the middle. Keeping adding wood until you get the temperature you want. I built one using the Forno Bravo design which was more round than tapered. We cooked a lot of pizzas over the years. I have to admit that we used preformed fire bricks.
@WravTil
@WravTil 2 жыл бұрын
I used the Forno Bravo (free) plans to build my own oven in Liguria, but I used firebricks and proper cement to make it and lots of insulation both under the bed and over the dome. I suspect the lack of insulation is preventing you getting to 400C as the bricks still had soot on them when you put the pizza in and that burns off when you get to the right temp. Also the interior is too large imo and a funny shape. The internal shape (and the chimney positioning) is important to get a swirl of fresh air feeding the fire and the smoke exiting in the upper layer. A taller, vertical chimney will help with that rather than the horizontal pipe. It's interesting to see what you're doing though and great to see you all working together. Plus any pizza made at home is better than one from the store !
@brianjohnston9822

@@WravTil I did exactly the same. I have seen a number of builds, I always recognize the Forno Bravo design.

I feel this is a great infrastructure addition as it's not only good for making pizzas but works great for baking bread, casseroles, fritatas, & more! It was great to see more faces in the kamp army too! I enjoyed seeing the process involved as well as the interesting tiled pattern which was quite different from the DiY earthen ovens I've seen before. As for the board in front of the oven, perhaps you could try Shou Sugi Ban (Japanese burnt wood + oil treatment that will thoroughly dry the wood & make it fire resistant). As always, looking forward to the next update!

An easy way to speed up your tile making for square tiles isnmakena simple mold. It helps you get more uniform thickness for aore even product. You cam just use scrap wood to make a simple square slap your clay in and scrap over the top to remove excess then just lift the mode and boom you have a tile.

You should have made a mold for the tiles by making out of lumber a U shape. Pack in the clay mixture into the shape, slowly remove it from the mold by tipping it over then using a wire cut through it the depth that you want the tiles. then just let them dry. They will be somewhat the same size.

Have you ever heard of "The Victorian Farm"? It's a British tv show (now on you tube) It features Ruth Goodman (historian) Peter Ginn and Alex Langlands (archeologists) they live for a year as Victorian farmers. In one of he episodes they work to restore the forge in the village blacksmith's shop where they are living - this entails making hundreds of clay bricks. They used a wooden molds to shape the clay - this meant that each brick was of equal size and thickness. It's interesting to watch and they do authentic Victorian (1800's) hand made things - like baskets and bricks using only hand tools. They are helped by experts in these crafts.
