@@ProjectShopFl Should do the wire in a single shot. Rig up your donut maker on some sort of an axle so it spins freely. Send a bit of your wire through (8' or so), stop the stripper, start spooling the wire on your donut maker. Once the spool has been started, turn the stripper back on and spool up the entire wire in one shot. Saves time cutting, saves walking back and forth to get sections, and most importantly saves your back from bending over a millions times.

When you said "rotating donut maker" I thought about one of those tire machines. You lay the tire flat on the machine and with a foot pedal it rotates the tire so you can pry off the rubber with a crow bar. I wonder if you find and buy a used tire machine and weld on your donut cage. It would rotate using the foot pedal to wind up the copper. Tire machine is almost built just like you would need and save you building one. Just a thought. Good to hear you were mostly out of the way of the hurricane. My brother and sister-n-law just moved into a new house they built in Port Charlotte 10-15 miles from landfall. They had to evacuate. They still don't know what happened to their house yet. Unbelievable.

Family is ok. Thanks. Their roof got all messed up. Not sure of all the details yet but might have to put a new roof on. They're still looking into how much rain water damage might have got into the attic. They got very lucky and didn't get flooded out. This is a second house for them. They have a house in Oshkosh, WI. They've been up there for a long time and just finished building this house for the last year and a half. Moved in like 1 month ago and then the hurricane. Crazy timing. I'm in Cincinnati. No chance of hurricanes here.

I have been thinking while watching your process that it may be more efficient to put your doughnut maker on a bearing and make a hanger on the input side to feed full lengths. The guy on the backside would then only need to guide the wire onto the spool.

You should move the stripping machine over against the wall at the door side still facing the same way as it is then you would be able to run it like that and if you put the frame with the scaffolding poles on it and the electric donut machine on its side at the otherside of the stripping machine you would be able to do it a lot quicker.👍👍✌👊👊

If you build a frame to put scaffolding poles on you can role up the wire then run the start of the wire through the stripper and put the clean stuff on to the donut roller ay the otherside that way you would only have to set it up everytime you had a big role of wire the only other thing you would need is a piece of bar that can seperate the plastic cover from the wire.👍👍✌👊👊

you should look into finding a 4yd dumpster weld some rectangle tubing on the bottom two for the pallet jack and two for support then it wont matter the length of the wire and it will still dump out at the yard you can always keep it in the back of the trailer to keep it out of the way @ 5:39 you will find your screwdriver

If you were able to create some machine with like 2 rubber wheels that you could feed the insulation into as it comes out of the stripper it would allow you to run longer pieces with a 2 man crew. Just as you demonstrated at 42:50. The 2 rubber wheels would provide tension on the insulation peeling it off as the helper collected the copper easily. Make it a variable speed motor so you could use it with either stripping machine.

If the donut maker was on a bearing and could easily rotate it would be far easier to spool the longer cables on on to it. The short lengths are great when you're dealing with 500lb of the smaller gauge wire. But this big stuff is manageable (if you have a partner) with a rotating donut maker

I see why your helper wanted them longer it will pretty much wrap on the wheel easier but in around 12 to 14 ft sections...20 to 30 is to much. But you would have to slow down a bit on your feed maybe 1 wire through every 30 to 46 seconds mark. Once the helper gets the end of the wire running at time started on the wheel he just turns it like you saw him doing and it is alot less work for him but might be a tad bit slower on actual time especially since its a pain in the ass to try to get all the lenghths cut at around that size

Is there no way to wheel the stripper up to the back of a trailer, drop the copper straight in while diverting the plastic to the sides of the trailer? Surely - if you can built this you can build an auto-diverter..... If you laid thinner copper ties on the trailer before you began. Tying it off and craning it away would create a massive 5-ton pipe of copper and now..... you truly are the King of Copper. Call me a loopy dreamer but I can clearly see it and I believe you can do it.

I do enjoy watching your channel. It is interesting. However your “helper” does have a name I am sure. A good “helper” will at times offer suggestions and you as the boss can accept them or reject them, that is your right to do so. Having worked many people in my 67 years I have found it helpful for both parties evolved that the suggestions be considered with an open mind and not laughed at before it is even given a chance. I realized that you feel the stripper should be running at all times but I do know that no copper can be sold until it is not only stripped but also bundled.
@ProjectShopFl
@ProjectShopFl Жыл бұрын
I'm always open for suggestions. The thing is I've done this for over 10 years and have done it both ways. When dealing with heavy copper it's easier to handle shorter pieces and to strip it as fast as possible. Even if I over run the guy on the back side, when I'm dome running the wire I go help clean it up. Even with a large box long runs are a hand full with the big wire and on the small wire it winds up getting tangled up.
