Picked up a load of induction lights for free. They are not a common light but they are out there. Let's see if they are worth the time.

Really appreciate you dedicating some time to show us this. My philosophy tho and I’m sure yours is you have to take the bad lights to get the good ones. Last job had some decent lights then they had about 20 fluorescent office trougher lights that I told them I would take. That way they remember me next job. I know your the same way. But I guess charging a fee to remove the crap ones makes sense too
@ProjectShopFl

I usually would have charged for this but they had a dumpster they were gonna through them in for free. Figured it would make a good video, I knew I would not be making money before I loaded them.

A fast way to remove the wire from those ferrite doughnut halves is just to grab one end of the wire and drop the ferrite towards a bucket. The weight of the ferrite will unwind the wire, the ferrite will come off into the bucket and the wire will be in your hand.

Funny as hell how you tried talking yourself out of breaking the Ballast all the way. I think for the hobby scrapper it would pay off to breaking down completely. I understand you have to move on and cut your losses and move to more profitable scrapping. Glad I came across your videos. You strike me as someone who I could kick back and have a beer with after a hard day's work.

Depends, if you have a ton of work, not worth the time, if you have hours to spare, might as well get the most out of what you already have if you enjoy micro scrapping, many do enjoy micro scrapping, you seemed annoyed and frustrated, so unless you enjoy, don’t do it, you also made a few bucks out of having the content for KZbin that was a little different, I enjoyed the journey, so thanks for going the distance😫

Those aluminum ballasts are easy to clean up as well, you can put on side into your vice and open it up either by man handling it or using your hammer with a couple of love taps. the pcb should just peel out. be sure to remove those screws holding in the transistors.

I would have called it too. Those little transformers might have had a little copper, but just think of it as education to not scrap those type of lights again. And education is usually not always free. You had a pile of money sitting in your truck bed that was losing value the more you screwed with those lights. You did the right thing. Other option is to charge the customer a flat rate to take them all, strip out the easy stuff and move on. Have a great weekend man.

On those ballasts, I think I would have done the 8 screws, taken the easy aluminum, and thrown the bottom half in aluminum breakage (or ballasts if your yard would take them that way). Either that, or thrown all the bottoms in a barrel and stored them to run in the hammer mill when you get it up and running.
