I've owned this Dodge 2500 V10 4x4 since 1997, but I kinda forgot that I owned it until recently. It's been off the road since 2009. Let's see if it can make the more than 100 mile trip home.

always happy to see another v10 still on the road, i have had a couple and daily drive one right now 96 5 speed ext cab 4wd. I solved the fuel chugging issue by converting mine to woodgas. Built a flatbed that integrates the fuel system, long as i can pickup chunks of wood and throw it in the truck i can keep on driving past the fuel pump!

Nothing says 2nd Gen like 1/4 turn of play in the wheel! Appreciate the shoutout!! Man this driving footage brought back some memories. I had a 97 (last year of that style dashboard and the steel mirrors) in the exact same configuration aside from being an extended cab. I also had a 1999 5 speed 4 door short bed and a 1995 extended cab automatic 2WD. Those V10’s sound and drive like nothing else. Those NV4500 transmissions are known for the 5th gear nut backing off, not sure if a warning sign would show up as a bearing noise or not but just an idea. I know you’ve never been known for selling stuff, but if you ever do sell this one I’d love to be the first to know!

Purchased mine 29 years ago last month. Still driving it. The 8 liter V10 gets a bad wrap about fuel economy. If you stay outta the throttle hard and drive like you've got a lick of sense it'll get round 16 mpg. Those trucks were built for one thing. Work! And it does that very well. Made to haul water to the cattle. Tons of gravel. Fire wood to town from the mountain and big loads of hay.

I've got a 96 Ram 3500 extended cab dually with the V10 and a automatic for pulling my RV. I love it except for I really wish the transmission had a few more gears. There are times when the truck just can't decide which gear it wants to be in and it can get a bit crazy.
@ProjectTimeGarage

@thebigguy
@thebigguy Жыл бұрын
@@ProjectTimeGarage I have a 36' Fifth Wheel trailer that weighs around 11K when loaded. I live and vacation in a relatively flat area of the country, so the truck does great most of the time. The shifting problem happens when I am pulling the RV up a long grade where the truck gradually loses speed. If the drop is gradual enough, the truck will shift down to 2nd and immediately shift back to 3rd. Rinse and repeat a few times in the span of 5 seconds and that's enough to make your heart skip a few beats! I have learned to just manually pull it into 2nd if I think that's about to happen. If the slope of the hill is a bit steeper, the downshift happens without issue. I just wish I had more gears so the engine could be kept in it's happy zone a bit easier.

Not having the widows work in my car is a death trap but it helps me with my diet to not go through the drive thru. Dad has a 98 Dodge V10 with back seat & short bed with 96,000 miles. It had like 10,000 miles when he got it & paid $11,000. It dosen’t have a smog pump. Did look at it once before & a year later it was still at the dealer. Was looking at Ford V10 but the Ford salesman told him to stay away from them. Did have problems with antifreeze disappearing & dealer couldn’t figure it out. Did an oil sample & found antifreeze in the oil. It was still under warranty & the dealer didn’t want to take care of it. Some representative happened to be there & knew what the problem was. The heads needed replacing because they were warped from manufacturing. There should have been a recall on this but wasn’t. The dealer dragged their feet & warranty was up but they finally honored it since it was still under warranty when Dad first took it in for the loss of antifreeze. Since it was being taken apart Dad had them put new pluges & wires in it that he paid for but the dealer was going to charge him to replace the fluids until Dad put his foot down on that. Dad got it repainted last year becauae the paint was peeling & I put some aftermarket tow mirrors on it. Only bad thing is the dash is cracking from sun & I put a dash mat over it. I like that power but hate fueling it up.

I'm deep in the process of working on this one. Two more videos are made, and I'm filming another this weekend. So far, I'm really happy with the way it's turning out. And yes, I hate the fill-ups. I daily drove this thing back in the late 90's 40 miles each way to work and back, 5 days a week plus running around on the weekends. Gas was cheaper back then, but it still hit the wallet pretty hard.

Eyeing a '96 3500 5 spd ext cab right now. I didn't want a 6 tire truck or drum brakes on the rear, but the price sure is tempting. I know it would tow anything I hook up too, and unlike my Durango, probably stop it too😮😅😂!

The V10 is a fantastic engine. Extremely reliable in generas, but you may want to do some research on Crankshaft Position Sensors. There a TON failing due to age and there is no replacement that works as far as I have found. They've been out of production since 2010 or so. eBay has some Chinese ones, but guys are reporting failures within a few miles.

Oh the other three things I forget to mention i gave $1,500 for my 2000 dodge ram Laramie slt longbed quad cab 1500 4X4 and it has a completely rebuilt front end new torque converter, front pump and input shaft seal in the transmission, and newer rear tires and I bought a complete set of stainless steel premade brake lines from classic tube out of Ohio for $218 including shipping shipping it had two rotted brake lines so that is why I bought them, and also new front brake hoses for both sides.and my truck has a dr side window motor that hardly ever works when it does it usually rolls the window down great but won't put it back up, and the passenger side works decent regardless but the HVAC works fine except switching to defrost, AC works great. I forgot i have a tach that works when it wants,i have not thought to check the power windows to see if they work when the tach doesn't and I have a brand new ignition switch to put in my truck also,,it also has a very slight idle fluctuation only maybe 200rpm difference,, and it still starts right up and it's not cold blooded like most of the mopar vehicles ive known of or owned even the fi ones this truck started right up in winter in 24degree weather and carries 40psi consistently at engine operating temperature so I can't complain and it doesn't seem to have the typical lifter tick either so thats awesome!!!
