I love how paper thin the plot can be at times, I'm not bashing it in the slightest but i think trigger made promare just as an excuse to flex as hard as they possibly could with the animations and i fucking love it

Flexing the animation AND the soundtrack. I've been recently reminded that Kakusei is a thing and now it hasn't left my brain in the last week.

I will always love Promare. It’s not perfect, but it’s got a lot of heart with scenes that still give me goosebumps on rewatch. It’s so full of animation and passion, I can’t help but love it

This studio really knows what it’s doing when it comes to animation, they 100% need to work on their storytelling though.

Like in the story, there's that metaphor about the burnish being a standin for gay people in ww2 (it's pretty on the nose with symbolism, eg pink triangles) but honestly i dont get why people care so much about that haha. The movie is mainly there for the spectacle, the characters arent really the main focus, they're just there to allow the conflict to occur
@Lukashaaa Жыл бұрын
I’m really glad that you mentioned that!! I absolutely love the message the film has about the anger that many minority groups feel in the face of oppression, and how that anger is justified and often necessary despite how it’s vilified by news outlets and politicians.

I watched it yesterday mainly because I was interested in the animation, and gosh I can't believe we thought exactly the same about it: it's absurd and idiot and it knows it, you can be too mad at it, I too end up laughing in the most cringe and over the top scene, like when they throw fist at the EARTH, LIKE WTF THAT'S HILARIOUS!! XD I gave it a 7/10 so again, pretty much agree uwu

I just watched Promare the other day, too. What surprised me is that it took this long, considering that Trigger is also one of my favorite studios. Promare wears a lot of its inspirations from one of Trigger's own older shows, Gurren Lagann, on its nose and I love it for that. Speaking of which, it seems like you haven't watched Gurren lagann? You mentioned that you're not much of a mecha fan and that's understandable, but if you liked Promare, and Trigger is your favorite studio, then you should definitely give Gurren Lagann a chance. I can't express just how good Gurren Lagann is. It definitely didn't have the budget necessary to look as good as Promare does, but it still has an excellent visual style all on its own, and I think the story and themes are some of the best in the industry. The second movie, Lagann-hen, is a particularly beautiful anime in HD. I hope you'll check it out.
@Enderaan Жыл бұрын
I just want to update and clarify this comment because I just remembered that Gurren Lagann is not technically a Trigger show. It was produced by Gainax, however, Trigger was formed from members of Gainax, and is now basically a successor to that studio.

Promare does actually have a very interesting and deep story, but it’s told through subtext, so unless you have a keen eye & ear it really takes a backseat to everything else in the film (not that that’s a bad thing!!)

Trigger was made to do futuristic robotic animes like Cyberpunk Edgerunners or Gurren Lagann (i think Trigger formed from members from studio that did Gurren Lagann) not loli witches doing magic shit.

I'm like a year late to this video but I just noticed this tonight on like my 6th rewatch of the movie, but they actually reveal the deus ex machina guy right at the start during the montage of the burnished showing up. He's only in it for like 5 seconds with a reporter saying something about "interviewing UN-Appointed Professor Prometh who states that oppression of the burnished may lead to concurrent blazes worldwide" while he's in the studio. It doesn't really get noticed because it's an off-handed comment at the start, but it is an interesting thing thing to see on a rewatch!
@TheSmileMile8 ай бұрын
The movie is complexly stupid, which is what makes in so genius. Like, yeah, people noticed the "Deus Ex Machina" bit, but there are so many layers! Dr. Deus Prometh is both a Figurative AND Literal Deus Ex Machina. He shows up out of nowhere to solve the plot (figurative) and his Name is Deus, and his consciousness was backed up onto a computer, i.e. he comes from a machine (literal.) He then presents Lio and Galo with the complete inverse, a Literal AND Figurative Deus Ex Machina, first, it being it's actual name (literal) and then later, to solve the issue with the Promare, Galo enters the Promatech engine so that his firefighting spirit can stand in for the healing factor of the Burnish, a function that nobody had considered until that last moment (figurative.)

Am I the only person who saw the trans subtext. Like in some ways there are two movies going on. The fun dumb action fillm with the meta jokes sprinkled in, but I think underneath alot of those dialogue issues he talks about make more sense when you see the subtext. The whole thing about how the burnish have this inner nature that they can't simply push down and hide? The over the top masculinity of Galo v the slight effeminate Lio , literally comping together to pilot a pink and blue mecha?
@rullocompressore155010 ай бұрын
You could watch Gurren Lagann, is done by the same team that created Trigger when it was part of an old studio, and Promare makes quite a few references to it

@phya932413 күн бұрын
People would point to a later part of the movie for this, but it's actually the scene with Aina that is the set up. It goes through the stereotypical romance tropes and at the touching moment literally drops it all for Leo. Like that for either way it isn't really touched upon further and just lets the silly robot movie be a silly robot movie.
