At 0:53, how did Finn not take damage from the first die of Light attack? Is protection applied before resistance, meaning that the 2 damage would have been reduced to 0, and thus not get doubled to 4 from the staggered state? Not that it matters, as Finn wpuld have had enough health to survive anyway.

That's correct. Protection is applied before resistances. For example if you have 3 protection while staggered and take an attack with value of 5, protection will substract 3 from the attack and the remainder will be doubled, dealing 4 damage in total instead of 10.
