What an experience! Every single charging working, on the first try, with Plug & Charge, at full power. Still one of the best days in recent memory covering all of that distance thrashing the Taycan in Germany. When the infrastructure can support that car, it’s so so so good. Shows that this is achievable but also how far away we are in America. Thanks for watching!

Your so good experience was possible tanks to Porsche Chargings Service, which is available in most countries but not in Poland, neighbor of Germany. No plug&charge, no IONITY in reasonable cost, no charging in dealership (they built the chargers already but they are not used at all), no roaming easy charging with roaming. I guess no easy charging in Poland for Taycan owners coming from other European countries. I was planning to travel via Germany using my Taycan but would rather stick with ICE thank to polish Porsche subsidiary.

That’s what stood out to me as well after watching your NY to Cali trip where you had a bunch of charging issues. So, if Tesla can have great chargers, and Germany/Europe can, why can’t the 3rd party charging networks in America have issueless charging?

You seem to be the first KZbinr documenting an e-on charging station that actually works as expected. In Germany we normally call those 'e-off stations' 😅
@kruemelfelix
@kruemelfelix Жыл бұрын
E-On isn't even responsible for the broken chargers. They just simply buy chargers from companies which can't build chargers. Those ABBs there are always broken, they also have EVBox which are also always down. But those type of chargers are also down on Allego too (they switched to Alpitronic due to that). And basically in germany it's a monopol now, only Alpitronic chargers on every reliable network. We literally have no other manufacturer for working chargers except Kempower (but that isn't in germany yet).
@BerndHahn
@BerndHahn Жыл бұрын
@@kruemelfelix I totally agree but as you mentioned Allego having switched from shitty Efacec to awesome Alpitronic I would expect e-on to do that as well.

@@BerndHahn EOn doesn't even repair their stations, I doubt they will switch. They simply only want to get the money from the government. Total EV charger is even worse than EOn. I have never seen a working Total charger (those are ABB or EVBox units always) and the one 5km from me has been built in 2020 and has no working charger sind 2021. Sadly it’s not impressive. It’s quite easy. Which is why so many different brands in Europe are able to do it flawlessly. It’s simply sad that VW has sabotaged EV charging in the US. Thank goodness for Tesla though.
@kruemelfelix
@kruemelfelix Жыл бұрын
@@ultrastoat3298 All the Ionity stations are from VW too. I mean Kyle was pretty lucky to not see a broken one, Ionity has many broken chargers. Also they are very often overcrowded due to cheap prices. However in Europe there are so many other charging providers like EnBW, Aral Pulse and co. which simply have reliable and working hardware from Alpitronic. In the US you have a hardware problem, if you would choose Alpitronic chargers they would also simply work, but rather you choose all the hardware we don't want. Allego as network here tried EVBox and ABB chargers which were broken all the time, they eventually now replaced them with Alpitronic too. In the US you now get those chargers from ABB and EVBox which we don't want and there's your issue.

The main issue seems to be the charging hardware and other than Tesla none of them really have their own hardware. In Europe most of the operators chose reliable hardware. Electrify America didn't choose the right hardware years ago and is now struggling with that.

@@ZenithMusicNet I don’t know if Kyle would visit The Netherlands. The Netherlands has a very dense charging infrastructure with mainly AC chargers. DC chargers is more difficult to install in many places because of the powergrid. 30% of our country is maxed out. If they want to install a DC charger in places like these, they need to buy a big buffer battery to generate the high speeds. The biggest AC charging place I know is Volvo / Polestar in Beesd. They have a couple hundred 11kw chargers and 2 DC cables with 300kw I believe. This is all made futureproof for receiving new cars and making them delivery ready.

HEAT PUMP difference? Re: ICE Efficiency. Per Corey Stubin, Munro pres, ICE loses 60% energy to heat & vibration that, in turn, are the greatest causes of vehicular wear & tear. Why (brainwashed by petro-propaganda?) would you NOT prefer transportation without those issues with hundreds fewer moving parts & almost ZERO maintenance requirements, plus no emissions from power sources that are >90% recyclable, AFTER being repurposed over a decade in stationary energy storage? Re: Non-NACS EVs, Left Stranded. Aka “Born Brain Dead” (intentionally to deter EV adoption?) VW Penitence CCS vs Tesla’s “Always Up, Everywhere” NACS. Typically you pay a fixed price one every charger. There aren't cheaper or more expensive stations, no one uses the app from the provider anyways. I know in the US you don't have roaming and you need a app for every provider, but that's not the case in Europe. Here you get one app like "EinfachStromLaden" from Maingau and that one will start basically every charger you want at the same price, only differentiating between AC and DC. However you are definitely right, I wouldn't want to drive an Kia EV6 or Ioniq 5 or Audi eTron compared to a Model 3 or Model Y jsut because they are soooo much more power hungry without offering more space. Way more expensive for charging on long runs.

Excellent video. My wife recently did an 800-mile round trip to Scotland in her Taycan GTS. She thoroughly enjoyed driving the car, BUT, the UK's charging infrastructure was a major cause of frustration and irritation. Firstly, some of charging stations are not to easy to find - the postcode provided by the owner / operator is often some distance from the charger. On two occasions, I had to use BlackVue's cloud web viewer to access the car's dash cam and guide her to the station by phone. Secondly, 50% of the chargers she tried were broken. Thirdly, some of the charger's screens faced the sun and were incredibly hard to read. Forthly, not one of the charging stations, including Ionity, delivered anywhere near their claimed kW. Fifthly, and far worse, the charging stations at our motorway services were almost as filthy as the services themselves. The German stations shown in your video put the UK to shame. Fortunately, 95% of my wife's driving is local, so she home-charges.

@@Hook1fred I do not think only politics is involved at the moment in poor situation with CCS EV fast chargers in the USA. It is rather an economical chicken and eggs issue: there are not enough CCS based EVs for serious investments in infrastructure to occur and consequently people do not adopt CCS cars en masse to warrant appearance of such investments. People are used to huge gas guzzling behemoths not available as EVs as well. In Europe and China there were imposed some regulations and incentives to break chicken and egg situation. In the USA as always everything is left to “free” market which is incentivized to do business as usual with gasoline cars. Plus in the North America the distances driven especially on road trips are cartoonishly long making hard for EV technology and infrastructure to catch up. Lastly in North America the temperature variations throughout the year are extreme hurting EV range and charging. Some areas are just remote in North America while Western Europe has virtually no remote areas. All that written down there no excuse for subpar infrastructure in the USA.

AFAIK plaid is on sale in Europe. I was given an opportunity to buy one at a dealer I was picking up my Model 3. Didn't take it because it's way outside my budget though.

Does this update not bring 2019 Taycans up to the current software standard? He only mentioned 2020 and 2021 models. I know it might not add range but having android auto would be nice.

What do you think of the UI? Seems pretty laggy and old-skool compared to a Model 3? (I have a model3 and am considering a Taycan as my next car, but am worried about the digital experience part.

Yeah, those Tritium ones on Ionity break often too. Ionity simply repairs them very frequently and fast. ;)

Great video. That massive charging station was awesome. Onething though, rotors don't warp on a unless they get hot enough to actually be able to change their form. They get friction variation due to lateral runout. If a rotor was truly warped you would get a vibration all the time. If it only happens when braking then it's due to the friction variation.
