Step by step TUTORIAL about moss propagation for aquascape, it's my method to spread it with minimal costs with recicled materials. Moss is very versatile and usefull for aquascaping, so you always need a lot of aquatic moss.
Moss cand be expensive, to buy and not easy to propagate it, but mostly to keep it algae free so this way you can have your Weeping, Christmas, Java or Flame moss in standby!

Not sure if you mentioned it, but what kind of maintenance needs to be performed once you’ve set up the moss container? Right now I have some moss and water in a sealed container with a clear lid on my windowsill. How often do I open it or change the water? Thank you!

Depending on the size and on the water cleaness. For smaller cups like the ones from in vitro pots from nurseries i don't do anything beside lettig them float on my tanks and wet them every 2-3 weeks. But the lid isent a perfect seal. For big trays unless you provide a good ventilation they make mold so at the beggining I spray each day maybe even twice a week... If you don't spray enough moss suffers and generate mold but if the moss is not well rinsed before added or the water is dirty can also generate mold or even algae. Complicated to say exactly what to do in your situation, try to play around, is just moss and in case mold takes over you can allways sink the moss again...

thanks for sharing. Going to try java moss again with this method of yours. Been trying to grow java moss for 3 years and it hates me😢. I only suceeded once. I put it in a pickle jar with just pure rain water (very low pH, zero hardness and very unstable water - the worst water for a plant) and left it on a window sill with no direct sunlight and it gradually filled the jar after 3 months. Unfortunately I moved the jar to a different location and it crashed. This will be attempt # 10 I think😢. tried ferts, no ferts, hard water, soft water, soil, even had frogs living in it in a pickle jar for a year - they just killed it even faster. Its amazing I still have a couple of strands left.😢

Best of luck this time! Have you maybe tried some.other moss types like Christmas or weeping? For example i like this flame moss a lot cuz i can glue it on the rocks at the back of my tank to look just like a grass there...

@@FZAquascapeIdeas yes. I have success with xmass moss. But so far these are the only two I have. I should try some more. Xmass moss is a native where I live and seems to like my moderately hard water, pH 8.
