This is my second winter with the Propex HS2000. I still love it. It has been trouble free and 100% reliable. I still recommend it. I did lots of number crunching to determine the propane consumption. The method I used for timing the duty cycle can be self correcting for the temperature and conditions you are in to calculate how long your fuel will last. =Cosmo

Cosmo; your tank seems pretty small, are you sure it's not an 11 lb. tare weight tank? I have a a couple of 11 lb. tare weight tanks which seem (visually) like yours which hold about one gallon (a little under five pounds) of propane each. Just asking. Thanks for the video.
@CosmoWeems5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brad The 11 lb. propane tank holds a little less than 11 pounds of propane. Commercial propane weighs about 3.696 lbs per gallon, so an 11lb tank holds about 2.98 gallons of propane. That is what the tank maker says. I am using weight as a measure since Propex provided weights for burn time. Thank You for watching. Check my other videos kzbin.infovideos SUBSCRIBE kzbin.info

@@CosmoWeems My Chinese diesel heater in 20 degree F weather, in an insulated 7x16 cargo trailer, producing an hourly duty cycle of 20 minutes on high and 40 minutes on low, drew 2.2 amps per hour= 18.6 amps in 8 hours. One web page says Propex draws 1.6 amps per hour (with no indication of duty cycle). I wonder what your Propex draws. I will buy you a beer for the data! =FeatherliteCT1
@CosmoWeems4 жыл бұрын
Thank you . The Propex site gives fule consumption and stats for 100% duty cycle (continuous running) 1 hour draws 2.4 amps or 2400 miliamps. In my scenario it ran 12 min an hour which would equal 40 miliamps a min or 480 mili amps total for the 12 min an hour it runs. Resting draw is .04 amps.which totals .031 milli amps for the hour. The grand total is 480.037 Mili amps for an hour at 20F or .48 amps. Thats a very low draw! I am not critical about Diesel heaters I just need a very low draw system for my tiny trailer. In my case I am not interested in adding a liquid fuel when I have Propane already. I am keeping it simple. I am not interested in the maintenance I am seeing for diesel heaters too. I do realize I spent $1K for my heater and diesels can be purchased for the outstanding price of $200. Its just not a match for me. A couple of comments. Propane introduces moisture to the environment in the combustion process. It is a small amount of moisture, but in small areas can accumulate quickly and dampness will make things colder. The moisture will work it's way into bedding and clothing making you more uncomfortable in the long run. Chinese heaters (if you don't like Chinese you can purchase domestic built units for about 3 times the money, but still cheaper than the propex). Yes the "Park Heaters" glow plugs do pull 8-10 amps at start up, but only at start up. Once the heater starts it uses the fuel pump and fan to regulate the temp output. This means that once the heater starts it does not shut off again and the thermostat controls pump speed to regulate the desired temp unlike other heaters which cycle on and off. This does mean though that at full heating power the park heater can pull up to 3 amps to run fan and pump. Once desired temp has been reached though it will usually pull well under a amp. Also, since it has a heat exchanger you are introducing dry heat (not moist) and no carbon monoxide into the environment. A 5 gallon diesel can will last a long time and is easily filled when you fuel up the tow vehicle. No cans to discard or have filled by qualified personal. Just some thoughts. thanks, George
@CosmoWeems5 жыл бұрын
Hi George. Thanks for your comments. Propex is a heat exchange heater. No moisture or combustion fumes enters the cabin. Diesel heaters are very good and a great match for many - but not me. I think products from China can be excellent. My trailer is tiny and I choose not to add anther liquid fuel. I already have propane. Others of course should get what is best for them. Finally I am not getting any data on how much electric power a diesel heater draws when it is running. Lots of opinions but no numbers. I have a small battery and I camp off grid. My research showed Diesel heaters draw more electric power which I could not support. Again I am still waiting for someone to produce some reliable information. =Cosmo Thank You for watching. Propane makes too much moisture inside . The diesel heater is a dry heat and it does not take a lot of electricity to burn the glow plug . Propane he is the worst thing you can do for a van unless you just want to rust it out
@CosmoWeems4 жыл бұрын
Accurate information to make decisions is important. This is one of the best heaters for a van for several factors. Lets start with your points You can add acoustic ducting to a heater like a Propex or a diesel which will make it quiet. It cost me about $15 and is available from Westy Ventures. It lowered the decibel volume quiet a bit. I have a video about that on my channel. No combustion enters the cabin because this is a heat exchange heater. All combustion fumes and water vapor are vented to the outside. Only dry heat enters the cabin. No rust and I get avirtually zero condensation on the walls of my trail in -5F temps. The Propex is much better than a diesel heater conserving electric power which is important for me. I list the electric consumption in tone of the comments below. Diesle consumes more electric. Propane heater requires none of the maintenance a diesel heater requires. If you have actual accurate numbers to compare we can discuss this in detail. Catalytic propane heaters like Mr Heater will indeed put lots of water into the cabin. But not the Propex. Thank You for watching. Check my other videos kzbin.infovideos SUBSCRIBE kzbin.info =Cosmo
