Totally agree on the flexible schedule! I teach 20 classes a week, and mostly 6am-9am. When i'm off at 9am, i am DONE. I can kick back, run errands, hit up an afternoon movie. Its the best :)

I used to worked for the IRS and yes Pilates classes can be a written off business expense because it is continuing education classes or workshops to learn more about advanced Pilates. So is the price of equipment you purchase for the business, cell phone, computers, office equipment, and a percentage of the internet, and even % of the mortgage if you have a home studio too ask your accountant because you would need to rent a studio space so a home studio can be a % of a write off expense too.

Such a helpful video! I’m getting my Mat certification right now and wrestle within myself everyday about whether I should quit the process or keep going. I would love a video on the new teacher anxiety, imposter syndrome, etc because I really struggle with that. It’s so much to memorize and perfect and I feel like my cueing is honestly so much harder than my teachers have made it out to be. I think they forget how overwhelming it all is. I also struggle with the schedule and the fact that the studios in my area really only do morning and evening sessions based around people who work 9-5. But my husband works 9-5 so basically I will be working when he’s home, and home when he’s working with how the instructor lifestyle is playing out so far. That, with my anxiety, has be questioning if this life is for me. I’d also love to hear your opinion on teaching private 1:1 Mat sessions from home as alternative to working in studios. If I don’t decide to pursue a Reformer certification anytime soon, do you think there’s a market of clients who would want 1:1 Mat? I feel like people expect use of a reformer or other equipment if they’re paying for a private session, but maybe I’m wrong? Thank you for these videos. You give me hope!

I’m so glad my videos are helpful for you! I can definitely make a video to address some of these topics. I definitely think there’s a market for those who are interested in Mat only, but those typically prefer an app or an online platform as opposed to 1:1 training. This isn’t always the case though so it doesn’t hurt to ask around. The great thing about that too is the sessions can be both virtual and in person. Hope this helps!

Biggest hidden costs or consumable costs often forgotten about would be good. Also pros and cons to being an instructor working for a studio vs managing your own studio.

I’ve been thinking about becoming a Pilates instructor but I don’t feel like I’m a pro or If i‘ll even be good. When it comes to public speaking I’m not the best cause I’m a shy person who likes to be in the background. I also feel like I’m not fit looking enough for people to trust my guidance or even flexible enough to be considered instructor level. However I would still love to learn more about Pilates. I go back and forth with this idea often.

Just know that many instructors feel that way when starting out, it’s very common and normal. Also know your body type has nothing to do with Pilates or your knowledge on it… it truly is created for every body type so try not to let that be a reason to not explore more 🤍 people will take your classes based off how you make them feel, not because on how you look!

I think generally what are the different paths - I resonate with your video in that I'm worried a full time pilates teachers role will be to energy draining for me so I want to do what else I can do / how I can still be successful if im not in a studio 24/7@@pilatesonthegreen

Loved the video, I’m about to start my Pilates career, been teaching some of my friends based on years of experience and practicing myself. I also did some self studies. Now I want to take it further and get myself certified and learn more. Was thinking of doing a mat pilates certificate first although I enjoy practicing reformer pilates myself. Do you know any places that offer certificates online or something? I’m currently staying in Malaysia

How do you write stuff off? Would I have to be an independent contractor? I’ve been trying to find resources to help me with this, but I was told from my last studio all the activewear I purchased could be claimed as a write off. And it did not work. I want to start investing more my own personal business but I want to do it and make sure I’m able to write off what I need but I am struggling to figure out. Do you have any resources to recommend?
@pilatesonthegreen10 ай бұрын
I have an LLC! You need to create a business to write stuff off. My accountant helps me with it so I’d definitely recommend getting a consult with someone who specializes in taxes and they can help guide you. But it’s definitely do-able! Sorry I don’t have someone in specific to recommend!
