I just got back from Minnesota after visiting for the Thanksgiving holiday. I was there for 5 days staying with a friend who has lived there is whole life. He lives in a suburb surrounding Lake Nokomis. I enjoyed my visit but wow it was cold! And it's still technically fall. Thanksgiving day was the coldest day of the week, it was 15 degrees!!! One thing I do love about the cold there is the air quality feels better, but I hated every time we went outside you have to bundle up like you're going off to war. As far as cheaper living, I didn't really see it. Your dollar does get more land compared to California where I am from, but my friend's wife said their property taxes are going up. On top of that they have to do home improvements from weather damage. It didn't really feel like dirt cheap living there.

I can't remember when I visit there. Was that in Eagan or minneapolis? I remember going to one with a lot of mindful surrounding nature and wasn't too long to walk around

It's always colder in MN in February than in Alaska , Minnesota is 1 of the four most heavily taxed states in the USA ( the other 3 are California, Oregon and New Jersey ) - snow shovels provide a form of winter exercise (have lived in MN for 30 years and have 4 different types of shovels but no snow blower) , You will require heavy coat(S) , 6 inches is nothing when you consider the year that the metrodome collapsed - it stays cold from early November to late March in general and finally thaws enough to do gardening by Memorial Day , Rochester has the Mayo Clinic , the car tabs are tiered fees not a flat rate, the road construction all the way from the metro to Duluth (lame) , in spite of the 2020 riots there are low crime areas in the metro , a person is able to commute to U of MN using the light rail and save the cost of campus living though the degree might not be as meaningful as it was in the past (don't believe the U of MN tales about getting help finding work or easily landing a job once you graduate ) - you might also notice that car insurance is also more expensive here in addition to the property taxes , income taxes , and "fees" that are essentially taxes , there are noise ordinances in most suburbs so forget about getting the lawn mowed before the heat sets in on summer mornings (have to wait until 8 am) , Native Minnesotans tend to be nice to each other - the joke among transplants is bring your own friends , was told many years ago that they don't bother making friends w/ people right away until after you've lived through several winters here - Minnesota Nice aka Minnesota I C E , There is not a lot of choice in churches if you are coming from the Bible Belt of the USA - - most people are mostly busy just making ends meet to waste $$$ on recreation, if you come to MN to live plant a butterfly garden because the monarchs do come here in late summer early fall

Okay, just have to say, wanting to move up there and spent four summers up there. The summers had their moments, but trust me, on the whole, they're NOTHING like further south , even in Missouri. They're MUCH milder . (Now don't get me started on May of 2018 for my first trip up there in almost 3 years when it was hotter there than in St louis during much of the time, but that was definitely NOT the norm during my four summers up there... it was hotter during that time frame for a few days than it was at any point whatsoever during those four years...where it hit 90 once or twice each summer and even in the middle of the state could get in the 40s at night.). Summers on a whole are MUCH nicer if you're coming from further south.

Minesota nice is a real thing...well spoken like a real Minnesotan. People who have visited or worked there for a little while know the aggressive passive, the backstabbing, the jealousy, the racism, you will never be my friend or admitted into our circle, you will never be invited to our house. etc. which are very extreme behaviors in Minnesota. It's not nice to be deceitful like many people who live in Minnesota. Some people may believe you and try to move there and be very disappointed. One thing is true and that is not all Minnesotans are like that, but most are.

In my experience MN landscape and entertainment are Nice but my experience maybe because im Latino was not very Nice with people snobby attitude or sarcastic even rude ,I have met good and bad people everywhere But to say MN people are nice as compared to WI and IL would be false in my experience ILLINOIS has nicer people overall.I have experienced light racism or unacceptance of others diversity more In MN then WI and overall People in IL are nicer,But what are you looking for nice people or nice place to live.MN people are Nice Enough.

Heat is hell. I live in Oklahoma where the weather is probably equally if not more diverse. We have negative winters with dangerously icy roads (that don't get cleared well) here and over 100-degree summers and trust me when I tell you, I'd go back to snow shoveling in a heartbeat after experiencing nausea and getting burned from simply trying to sit in a car

How much are the "high" registration fees in Minnesota? In California (I have nineteen vehicles) the average yearly fee is $168. A 2021 Ram 1500 Bighorn registration is $644 a year.

Minnesota nice?? How about all the gangs in the Twinn Cities??? I have relative living in Minneapolis that I am very concerned about because of all the crime!! I have wanted to retire in MN. I have vacationed there three times and I loved it. The people are incredibly nice. My great grandparents settled there in the 1800s. My parents grew up there and always said nice things about the state!

@@GratefulOverlander sir or madam.. passion and mindfulness is what moves you forward. Financial, ego and self-loathing problems keep you stuck. I've been there prior to being a people pleaser in my early twenties which got me nowhere. Having an abundant mindset and open mind, we'll leave opportunities for others to help join you.. think about it. This is a message to encourage you and not judge you but it is given with critiquing tough love. You'll find your way
