My brb was not active as a baby and he didn't seem to like a bigger enclosure at all. When I put him in a smaller enclosure he looked more comfortable. now that he is a juvenile he is way more active and bolder, and he loves climbing.

Love seeing all these brazilian rainbow boa videos and I really like how you pointed out that there is not only one way to take care of a brb. I've found it is possible to give brbs the right humidity as well as the opportunity to burrow using only paper towel. Rip the paper towel into smaller pieces and slightly dampen the pieces with dechlorinated water from a spray bottle. It's easy to clean, my boy can burrow and the humidity stays 97-99%. I may try my hand at bioactive in the future, but this works great. Sidenote: Along with the opportunity to burrow, he has other forms of enrichment including branches to climb, hides and fake plants. When I was set on another pet snake, I came across your videos and decided on a brazilian rainbow boa. Truly once you get the care down, they are really not that difficult. Your videos have been a great resource, thank you so much :)

My little lady has been in an exoterra large-low for the 1st year of her life and she has plenty of room to play still as she is growing. If this is something people are interested in, the Focus Cubed exoterra PVC lid was a great mod for holding in humidity. She'll be getting an upgrade this year for sure though, I can't wait

Enclosure question for a baby. You said you can start with a large enclosure just need to makes sure the space the filled. Some articles suggest starting with a smaller 10 gallon or so enclosure. I have a 40 gallon and no issues going smaller for the time being. What are your suggestions? The baby is about 11"s long.

Totally using the link to get one for my Leucistic Columbian Rainbow Boa. I was using a glass 10 gallon and she is already getting big enough to stretch out the whole length of the enclosure at 5 months old. thank you for all the pointers! :)😊

Perfect timing. I think I have finally gotten my enclosure ready. 4x2x2 Zen. Bioactive substrate. Ceramic heat bulb in a "cage." Two hides that I made covered in moss. I used small oil pans that I covered in foam, carved, painted, and covered in moss. I gave up on the highest humidity settings, especially for the babies. There is no way to have 95% plus without having constantly soaked substrate, which the ground is in the wild, but causes big time problems in captivity. What I did was set my misting system to go off at 4 am and 8 pm. I also put in a fogger to go off every few hours. It doesn't get up to the 95% humidity, but with the misting, the fogging, and the water bowl, I think that is going to be just fine. I have some branches and other climbing areas. Two live plants built into the back wall, and a bunch of fake plants and vines. What I also did to help humidity was to use HVAC tape on the top in addition to the humidity shield that came with the habitat. I used LED indoor plant lights at the top of the enclosure to add light for plants and a "daytime" for the snake. They are peel and stick, and put out zero heat. Should be all set for March at the NARBC in Tinley to bring home the animal! I think that covers everything. I have the temp gun, tongs, etc from the other reptiles. Do you see anything that I missed? Thanks.

@@reptiliangarden So two parts with that , is it better to fog at night like a chameleon. An how dry is to dry during the day, with the lower temps I doubt it’ll ever completely dry, but if baby’s need to stay in the 90s( humidity wise ) what is the appropriate drop?

@ebraxton6271

Some say yes some say no. Personally I had humidifiers for my BRB and other snakes with no issues but pros and cons for everything. Humidifiers do work and you can use them but they also can cause heat to rise which isnt good so youd watch for that. Also due to the humidity some things in the enclosure could develop mold and other things so youd have to watch out and stay on top of cleaning. As far as needing one or not you dont. You could have certain substrates wet it down and keep a big water dish in the enclosure and humidity stays just right. Ive done both options and both work a humidifier is just more money and can be a bigger hassle. I typically only set it up if i was going to be gone for sometime and the one care taking wasnt very knowledgeable about snakes basically just there to feed and clean up the mess so humidifier does help in cases of not being home and no one really knowing about snake care.

Crud. One more question. If you you use a heat mat, and have a couple of inches of substrate on top of it, do you just crank it up super high to get the temp you want? Agreed on heat panels. I have on for my BCI, and it is dry as a bone in there if I don't spray it at least once a day.

I clear the substrate off the heat pad area so that the snake can get the proper amount of heat without any substrate blocking it!

@@reptiliangarden I believe they like to burrow too? (mine does at least) I believe they should be able to self-regulate and burrow deeper/shallower based on what they want.
@TheRealKingMidas
@TheRealKingMidas 2 жыл бұрын
Just make sure you bury the thermostat sensor so it keeps the mat at the target temp. The snake will then be able to burrow to whichever depth feels comfy. BRBs like to hide so if it can bask without being seen you have a very healthy snake. It can be boring because if you have a healthy and well built enclosure, you really won’t see the snake much unless it’s hungry. People who make enclosures because they’re pretty or force the snake to be visible suck. Snakes don’t like people or anything really. They like being left alone.
