Great info! I have a BRB juvenile that I've raised since he was a tiny hatchling. Another tip for babies is to provide a humid hide (I used a Tupperware container with damp sphagnum moss.) This ensured he had a super humid spot in case his tub wasn't humid enough. He used it a lot while shedding. I'm currently planning his adult enclosure, which will be a bioactive 4x2x2 pvc.

Thanks for the video. Bowie is beautiful! Boas have a much slower digestion than other snakes, particularly because they prefer cooler temps. If you’re feeding a small or medium rat you should be feeding once a month or at most every three weeks. Feeding adults once/week is going to result in obesity, early death, and unsuccessful breeding. Also, sustained temps of over 85 will cause neurological damage. This is a nocturnal species that does not experience those high temps of the Amazon during the day. I suggest someone looking for care advice join one of the reputable Facebook groups on the subject. Otherwise you’ve got some good info in here.

getting my brb in a couple weeks and I'm super excited! He's already 2 years old though lol. Another thing is I added a background to my glass enclosure (gorilla glue with a bunch of eco-earth and sphagnum moss on it, and climbing stuff like cork) and the humidity, without being sprayed, has been at 86% so I think it's gonna work alright c:

So here I've got the option of wooden vivariums or glass. Wood is usually considered a lesser choice for high humidity because it can damage the wood over time. Though I figure if I were to waterproof/seal it, it could work out and retain humidity a bit better than a glass terrarium with mesh top. The zen habitats you use look like they're part wood. Not sure if they are and if it just looks like wood. Would you think a wooden vivarium would work for this, were I to seal it appropriately?

This is so helpful! In the future I definitely want a snake. I'm struggling with the idea of getting a snake I really want (BRB) and getting one that is more beginner friendly. I feel like getting the one I really want will make me more engaged... but I'm also not entirely confident in with getting a more fragile snake as my first snake. Anyways great video!
@avatarno1defender3 жыл бұрын
I would suggest getting a tank and set it up as if there was a BRB in it. Turn on all the heat and light etc and run it for 1/2 weeks. You can experiment with different ways to increase humidity in that time. If you are hitting all the right parameters and you feel confident after that, go ahead and get a BRB! if you aren’t so sure, maybe get an easier snake to go in the tank like a corn snake or ball python. (Change the tank around as needed obviously)

Hey Trish i have a question with vertical space for my ball python. Im building a custom enclosure for my ball bython and corn snake. Its a single unit divided in two. Due to the size of my room i couldnt make it tall or wide as i wished, so i made it long. The dimensions are 4'6"long, 17"deep, 30"tall (15" for each snake) Since it isnt really tall, do u think i should focus a lot on trying to give them plenty of vertical climbing space or make the horizontal space enriched as possible? Thank you for any help but if not no worries! Your videos are great! 😁

My first question for any potential reptile owner of any species, is what is the humidity range of your apartment/reptile room throughout the year. If you live in the Pacific Northwest, humidity might not be such an issue, my apt humidity ranges from mid 50s in winter to mid 70s in summer, so it's pretty easy to maintain my Rainbow's humidity higher than that. I've noticed that there's a definite correlation between where a herper lives, and how difficult they think high humidity animals are. For me, I'd be way more concerned keeping something like a uromastyx.

Hey question, How long can a rainbow boa (assuming subadult or adult here) be kept out of its humidity safely? For vet visits (especially when complications present) I'm worried about dehydration complications. I'm also considering being able to bring them to Herpetology events so I'm curious If i should prep humidity options for the snake if any of these come up.

Hello friends! Please always have a thermostat on your heaters set to no higher than 83F for your BRB. Anything higher than 85F for extended periods of time can be fatal to BRBs, especially young snakes. Otherwise, beautiful snake and great video!
