Lobbying Supreme Court Justices (which is essentially what Crow did) has to be made illegal. There is no valid reason for anyone (other than a relative) to be able to give Justices gifts of significant financial value when they could have a case happening before them in the future. It just reeks of corruption. But the fact that it is left to the Justices themselves, to decide whether or not to recuse themselves, also beggars belief. It relies completely on the point that these people (the Justices) are incorruptible. And we know now that this is completely wrong.

I worked for the health dept in Virginia. We took conflict of interest training every year. We were paid school teacher level salaries. I am now retired on state pension and SS. It makes me sick that these high paid gov't employees get away with this. Also, that I pay more taxes than DT.

I thought that over the years that it was more like $ 4,000,000.00 in gifts. And that Alito has through the years received $ 1,000,000.00 in gifts. I think that is ridiculous. Senators cannot accept even $ 50.00. When I was a state employee if we as staff taking care of handicapped children and disabled family members of families bringing us cookies, candy, or whatever, we could only accept it on behalf of the family members that we cared for. We would give the treats, that we were gifted, to the family members, that we cared for. So, if we were not allowed to accept anything why are they allowed to accept such substantial, expensive, and luxurious gifts, without any consequences? There has to be consequences or they will continue to exhibit this behavior.

The legislative branch has not done enough to check the other branches, due largely to Mitchell McConnell and MAGA Republicans' fascist tendencies but also because of Democratic timidity. Thomas was approved by both parties even though he was clearly corrupt from the get-go. This guy helped take away the rights of every woman in this country.
