That's Awesome!! NC has such a bounty of minerals!! Seeing how many gemstones there are in the US Really inspires me to see what could be found in Canada!! There's so much unexplored land here especially in the north!! I still have tons to learn and will be sharing everything I know as i continue to learn🙂

Thanks!! I can't wait to get back out exploring more this summer. My season didn't quite go to plan last year but this year I'm just going to go with the flow without planning too much. It'll be a busy season for sure!!

Wow some great finds if not slightly frozen ones! Those looked like some huge garnets though! That place looks like it will be a lot of fun to head back to when it thaws out some more. And that kyanite was interesting! It sounds like it's a rare find for you there. Well it's not huge but looks like there is a lot of it there! How cool! Another reason to go back there when it thaws out! I hope you at least took that chunk of rock that was loaded with garnet with you to dig the garnets out of at home? I look forward to going back with you in the spring time when it thaws some! Thanks Liam!

Thanks!! Yea the garnets are a great size!! Fingers crossed I'll get to finding some larger kyanite out there in the future, still tons of ground to explore!! It's one of the more crystalized zones in the area so it'll be interesting to see what else formed out there, lots of potential!!🙂

I'm not in that area but I'd like to check Harrison out someday. I haven't seen any kyanite from that area but I wouldn't doubt that it's there somewhere🙂

@@NWRockExplorer there is just about everything in that valley .creek beds of garnets looks like blood on the bottom seen a video on that but far more up there from arsenic to uranium and everything in between quite a few forestry campsites along the lakes and rivers,all backroads gravel active logging but not closed to public in most cases

I'd like to see you go higher up the slope & find the bedrock/matrix where the garnets & Kyanite came from & the black crystals are Schorl ! :) Plus you need a gem fish torch That you can see IF in fact the garnets have any transparency ;)

I'll definitely be back there soon!! Hoping to find a good spot to dig some well formed garnets and larger blades of kyanite. Still I'm pretty stoked with these finds!! I wasn't too sure with the tourmaline, just couldn't see a clear cross section is all. The thinner sections did have some very slight translucency but I'd still consider it schorl👍

Another thing about the Gem Fish Torch... Not all schorl tourmalines are black :) , I found Schorl on the Blu Starr that looked black, but, on edge in sunlight, was really red :) @@NWRockExplorer

I think the black mineral around 6:45 is maybe biotite or hornblende? I can't recall the difference.

The main giveaway that it isn't horneblende or biotite is that it doesn't have cleavage planes, this mineral has a concoidal fracture and a vitreous luster. I'm still not 100% sure as I couldn't see any clear triangular cross sections but when you have a cluster of tourmaline they can tend to be a bit misshaped🤔
