Prospecting for trout in Ireland

Hi Eamon just looking back at a few of your videos before the new season, i notice you often put the net between your knees and put the fly rod in the net when releasing the fish. I like the system you have, can you tell me what net you use or recommend please? thanks Eamon.

It is all wild brown trout, no stocked trout at all

It's always a delight to watch a skillful fisherman take fish, but I would be more persuaded to buy a nymphing rod if it were possible to change from purely a nymphng leader to a DT2 or WF3 and fish dry flies or spiders.

Hi there, thanks for your comment 👍 if your set up is correct you can do just that, I made a video a couple of years ago showing the use of the a shock leader on a nymphing rod where you can use multiple methods on it, the video is called multi method leader, regards Eamonn

Hi Martin, I have no name on it, the dressing is cdl tail, body is cree stalk, wing is cdc and hackle is grizzle cut underneath

Hi Eamon question please if thats ok, should you lift into fish as fast as possible on dry fly take or pause then lift? im wondering with bigger fish maybe pause an extra moment but really not sure, thank you.

Hi Myles, I know what you are saying, in the video it sounds very quick, I didn't grease my line so it sounded very loud cutting through the water, in terms of pausing there is a chance of the trout spitting the fly, it is a fast but controlled lift,

hey in that spot where you are around 4 minutes are you sometimes moving the flies downstream quite a bit faster than the current? it looks like it to me but hard to tell. Just wondering if that is a method you use?

Hi there I don't intentionally do it, if I can recall the light conditions made the indicator hard to see, I think I was pulling it down to see it, I don't usually i don't lead the flies faster than the flow,
