Hey guys, sorry for the delay in uploading this video. Our boiler/heating system broke and we didn't have heat or hot water for 1.5 weeks... in the midst of the coldest weather so far this winter. Everything is back up and running, thankfully! If you have any questions, let me know.

Hey Morna! I'm a young industrial designer from the UK, right at the start of my career with my second job and your videos and the advice/tips have been a great help! Thank you!

Love the video! Extremely educational. However, the volume was low even when turned up to max. New subscriber here.😊

Thanks Rod. Unfortunately I can't do anything about the volume on this video. I can only improve future videos. :)

This was really helpful, thank you! How can someone with an idea but no idea how to execute a design of functionality move forward in the process? In other words, I know what I want but I lack the skills and knowledge to create it. Would I get in touch with an industrial designer (or company) such as yourself? Thank you so much, any information is appreciated!

Hey morna I love this video and how you bring us into the design process behind the scenes I would love to know how do you start with a product. Do you start with a question with a reference etc…

I am a product designer. As you said all these tips are very efficient while prototyping. We don't need to spent a lot of money for working prototype, just contemplate the functionality and choose easy available material before making it. If the design is complex, i prefer 3d print.

Hi how are you doing I have an idea for a existing product and I made a prototype and I don't know what to do from this stage
@trexinvert

You don't know? If it functions and you like the form. Sell it? That motivation should have led you to the next obvious stage mass production. However, you are on this website and Morna's specialty is ergonomic redesign. That means you are not 100% happy with your prototype. You "think" someone else can make it better. Why don't you make it better? Once, you're happy with it then "learn about" mfg process. Not so much the "magic" that it can do. Focus on the "limitations" of each process. There's really 4 major processes: cnc machining, injection molding for plastic, composite layup molding & vacuum forming, sheet metal Not hard to figure out what's needed for your type of product. Hopefully, it's not electrical requiring electronics, controls and power. Good luck on that.

Hello.. I am a mechanical engineer, But I want to be an industrial designer.I want to know that a design degree is must ? To be one or skill and a portfolio to show my work and capability will give me a chance ? Pls reply if possible......🙏🙏🙏🙏

Hi - this is a difficult question to answer but it really depends on the individual and their circumstances. Industrial design is very different from Mechanical engineering. We think in different ways and have different concerns. (where I work, we share studio space with Mechanical engineers, so I say this from experience). I have 2 friends that worked as Mechanical engineers before going back to school for Industrial Design. They now work as Industrial Designers. To get a job in Industrial design, the most important thing is your portfolio. If you can demonstrate in your portfolio that you have the same skill & abilities as an Industrial designer, I don't see why it's not possible to get a job in Industrial design. But you should keep in mind that you will be competing against people who have studied Industrial design for 4 years. If you really want to be an industrial designer, keep learning and practicing. Start your own projects by designing and making things. Preferably try to design something that you can make and use yourself. By doing this, you will immediately be faced with questions about size & how it relates to a human body, where does this product live (does it stay in one spot or move around), what material is appropriate, what form should it be, how does someone use it, etc. And remember design is an iterative process. After you have used it for a while: re-evaluate and take another shot at the design. Hope some of this is helpful. :)
