Honestly, the fact that your craft knife stays at the depth you set it is so tempting to me. Every knife I've tried extends itself when I start cutting, and I may have to treat myself to this nice one...

You can buy brown paper packing tape that matches the carboard so you don't need to worry about shiny tape (and makes it paintable). Plus you can recycle it easier after 10 years when you finally throw it away!

Ooh I need to get a roll of that stuff.

Aww... everyone else has beaten me to the snarkiest comments already. I like it when someone does something old school. I think you learn more than just printing it. Making it by hand puts the "art" back into your art. Thanks for sharing with us, guys!

An eternity ago, I bought a Futurama DVD collection that came in a full-size Bender's head (just after the movies, before the reboot). Useless at keeping discs (several are scratched beyond hope now), but quite a looker on my shelves. Since the wooden Bender episode, I kind of wanted to reproduce it in wood, but cardboard looks great too!
@punishedpropsАй бұрын
Oh wow a wooden Bender would be incredible!

I'm so glad you have an advanced compass. They're so useful. Every time i pull mine out my wife looks at our daughter and says "watch closely. No one knows how to use those any more except your dad and he's going to do some magical math with it." Always makes me laugh, but it's seriously useful and becoming a lost art.

Serious question: What makes an "advanced compass"? At least the one at 10:51 was just "compass" when I was in school. And yes, they sure are a lot more versatile than they seem.

Watching this reminds me of building card models back in my youth. While you are creating the prototype, the cardboard or card-stock models I built were the finished product. I was never really good at building from scratch, and a lot of the "cut and assemble" books from my youth are now long out of print, so it's not easy for me to get back into building like I did as a youngster.

So much better than the 3D printing content. These were the type of videos that brought me to the channel years ago. I know 3D printing has its place in prop making but it just makes for boring content if you ask me. I would much rather see cardboard and foam and cheap materials made by hand. 3D printing kinda loses the soul of the project. Just my 2 cents

Welp, the rest of this project is going to likely be 3D printed, but I promise it will be compelling. Loads of fun problem solving.
