I had a similar strategy playing Clan Moulder where I used wolfrats the same way. Always 4-5 Units against one. I didn't have enough money or tech to recruit enough brood horrors, so I filled the army up with them. Very intense battles, but it worked as a temporary solution.

I have a memory of watching a duel once, zoomed way in. They were fighting close to a cliff. My duelist killed the enemy, and the body flew backwards perfectly and ragdolled off the cliff. Definitely one of the best moments I've had playing this game.

I'm surprised that the knights are fresh because IIRC perfect vigor states you don't lose vigor or gain fatigue. I took that to mean that whatever fatigue the unit starts with is what they keep for the rest of the battle.

Against infantry it doesn't matter if they have a bonus vs large. Their charge bonus gives them the 90% hit cap and an ap weapon strength of over 100. Short of beefy elite infantry like black orcs and braced anti large units they'll easily 1 hit any model. But the anti large is especially useful for extra damage against single entities and more hitting chance/ damage output in sustained combat vs large. Pretty much all sustained combat should be with large, since only large opponents are fast enough to catch up. So anti large simply is better.

@@Xonarag they will cause 1- the only way you Won't hit is if its something like ironbreakers and 2- you do know MD gets reduced when being attacked in the sides and rear right? and optimal cav usage rarely involves a full on frontal charge and yeah what that guy said above is why the myth that elite cav is bad against high armour needs to stop...grail knights may not have the AP tag but they have a high enough AP ratio to where even if you do have heavy armour they are still hitting you for over 70 WS

@@Xonarag 100+ charge bonus gives them an ecfective 180 attack. 130 should be enough against even ironbreakers (ai build about 80md) and as far as I know those are the best defenders.

I think this might have been winnable for a pegasus knight spam, purely because they would not be anywhere near as hampered by the map or the size of the skaven armies. However I don't have confidence that they (the pegasus knights) would have walked out of the battle with the same strength remaining that the Grail Knights managed.

Blood Knights stronger, faster, missile resist and easier to heal. Also anti-large but super strong charge bonus vs infantry as well. They would have handled this situation better if they were commanded by a Blood Dragon Vampire Lord

Grail knights have 20 percent physical resistance as long as they are not broken/shattered, so the Blood Knights don't have any advantage over them there with Flag of the Blood Keep (which requires them to be in melee). Also, they are more expensive in a race that has a poor economy, especially compared to Bretonnia, who can field multiple GK armies with ease. Edit: pretty sure Blood Knights are also slower as well

1 on 1 BK almost dominates any cav unit in the game, but for an unfair match when u are out numbered with tons of AI cheat, legendary supply line which rock your army cost to the bottom, grail knight will do better job, perfect vigor is fking essential when playing unfair cav battle

How did you get them to mill about in the center? Is it specific AI to this map? They ALWAYS go straight for my forces if I have them tucked in a corner, even with a hero split off, although I have never done that on this map.

I believe it has to do with line of sight and the way the AI treats the choke point. If you push someone across the choke point before the ai gets into position it tends to freak out and worry about the one you sent.

You see, I stopped watching Legend's campaigns due to their becoming predictable, going ranged or magic at every turn, so it got stale and even his clutch victories didn't seem as impressive as they once did... THIS VIDEO, HOWEVER, SHOWS HOW LEGENDARY HE IS. WHAT A MASTER CLASS. It is tiresome to do it, and won't be as fun having to work so hard in big battles, but this is a display of skill that's hard to match. I wish we could get more of that, as Legend's knowledge of the game and skill are amazing, better than everyone else's.

he is definitely skilled and very fun to watch sometimes but i get where you are coming from. Playing only legendary campaigns (or hell just WH2 in general) really holds him back but if he is having fun then nothing else matters. I personally stopped watching him because im tired of hearing people constantly ask him stupid questions especially around patch times and how he takes so much time to stop and answer every time. That is definitely him being nice but i just wish the man would either have himself or someone else make a damn FAQ

Legend, in my experience you want to be between the enemy army and the artillery to inflict the friendly fire better, not on top of the infantry.

Every time I start playing Bretonnia with a plan to try their entire cav roster - Grail Knights, Grail Guardians, Pegasus Knights... But every time end up spamming Hippogryphs :(

The ground cav units really aren’t that comparable to hippos in all reality. Even for expert players, they simply won’t perform as well as hippos will given their high HP per entity. Plus their ability to disengage is just far superior.

I love grail knights and guardians in SFO. They are finally a viable cavalry doomstack and a good alternative to flying lion chicken doomstack. I really don't like them in vanilla, because somehow the holy Chad strongest cav in game does not pierce Armour...

Only thing i will say legend that for me Grail knights are on same tier as Grail guardians that without being tier 5 unit i think they have same effect. So if this battle was with grail guardians the resolts would be same.

It would not have been the same, grail guardians (GG) would have just charged and eaten through all of them after ammo of artillery is spent. You see, the reason why legend had to do all that hard work is because the Grail knights cannot withstand punishment at all, they have to charge and hope they break the enemy infantry. Grail guardians have no such limitation, they just charge and eat through the infantry and heros alike. Why? It has to do with MD, the best stat in WH2. The fact that infantry cannot hit the dam Guardians with 56 MD base, it is huge. To give you perspective, Vlad VC has 50 MD base while each one of these Guardians has 56. Grail knights have 30 MD base, same as skeleton spears, very squishy. GG have more HP and better parry chance + increased Armor which makes them like very fast moving tanks that can only be damaged by artillery and some ranged units.

@@jeffvella9765 I think it depends on playstyle and how you are using the cavalry. If you are conentrating on hit and run attacks, which is what I generally use cavalry for, then grail knights are better for that purpose due to their higher attack values, but you do have to look out for them more, whereas grail guardians aren't as strong on the attack but their high MD does allow them to survive in a drawn out battle unless they are fighting in a very unfavorable situation

The trouble is, if you can get royal pegasus knights, you can get royal hypogryph knights. As much as I like the pegasus knights, perfect vigour doesn't make up for every other way hypogryph knights are better. A shame, really.

Guardians are better at tanking but not as good at killing as knights, that's why I think a combination of guardians and knights would've been best. Send the guardians to absorb damage and flank with knights

Thanks for this, I had lost my faith in Grail Knights, not so much Guardians but anyway. Its just my apm in multiplayer, which is another story.
