So this is my Doomstack here and I must say I’m absolutely chuffed that it got an 8/10. I think that Legend made a very good and fair assessment of my army, it is certainly a lot more limited in what it can do during sieges but I never really felt that it struggled during a siege because the Fay Enchantress and her team of heroes are so bloody powerful they never had any trouble smashing entire garrisons. The only thing that Legend forgot to mention was my reason for having Henri Le Massif in the army, which is because he provides an army wide buff to Grail Guardians that boosts weapon strength and charge bonus which when coupled with the melee defence buffs that the Fay Enchantress gives them makes them way better than they are in any regular army. Anyway hope you all liked watching my doomstack, this one was certainly a lot more fun than the Bone Giant army I made.

But considering how much the Fay Enchantress boosts them I wanted to give her a Grail Guardian army and it’s consistently proved itself to be really viable. The Grail Guardians are super tanky the most I’ve ever lost in a manually resolved battle was a little over 100 men.

@@obi-wan3916 Melee generally have an annoying time with sieges where a unit with the Mortis Engine effect is basically mvp. Repanse giving +17 melee attack with frenzy and a conditional +8 more vs undead is no slouch though she is good with any combination of Paladins/Grails/Hippos.

Legend doesnt realize that grail guardian got 90 melee defense. You can charge head to head and still take practically zero damage

@@mattheww.6232 I feel like people forget about heroes with Damage Wall. You can open 3-5 big ass holes and charge right in. The AI archers are usually pretty bad at turning around and shooting inside the walls once you are in.

A good way to look at Damage Resistance scaling is to look at 89% and 90%. Say a character takes 500 points of damage. With 89% resistance against the attack, they take 55 damage. With 90% resistance, they take 50. That is a very significant difference. After ten attacks, you have effectively taken an eleventh attack despite sustaining the same amount of attacks, for a singular percentage point of difference. Every single point counts, but the higher points count so much more.

Maybe a better way of eyplaining why resistances become more effective the more you have is by looking at how long a unit can stay in combat: With 10% resistance, it can stay 1,11-Times as long in battle. With 50% resistance, it can stay 2-Times as long in battle. With 90% resistance, it can stay 10-Times as long in battle.

Legend for my Bretonnian Campaigns I tend to use a mix of Grail Guardians and Grail Knights. The problem that Grail Knights have is that they have such horrid Melee Defense compared to the Grail Guardians. Grail Guardians are straight up better vs Infantry and even Archers in campaign because they are so tanky you just don't lose units with them. Grail Knights are glass cannons. They can punch through enemy monsters and cavalry sure, but they'll usually take a beating doing it. I don't think this army would have performed much better if the stack had been Grail Knights instead. Might have and probably would have won the battle faster but the casualties would have been higher. Also this stack is cheating because it has Henri in it. Henri belongs in Repanse's army. It's the law.

Ah, Grimgor... I killed him yesterday and didn't get his trait (I don't remember what his trait is anyway), because it turns out a lord can have a maximum of 30 traits. Having checked later, it also turned out that I missed Wurzzag's and Sniktch's traits because of the limit (which would be quite useful traits). That sucks.

There's a great mod called Cpecific's Trait Manager that gives you control over your traits in game. I use it exclusively for that situation, removing useless traits and adding in legendary lord traits when I would have otherwise missed them OR if my main lord was reinforcing a low level lord and the low level lord would have got the trait instead.

Maybe he wants to destroy a tower so he has time to use his magic to thin the garrison before charging in. Only some maps have large enough blinds spots or tree cover to hide 16 units of Grail Guardians.

I’d assume tower smashing. Cav units being large models can take HOR-EN-DUS model losses from towers even in minor settlements battles. Even if this army would be perfectly suited for flag rushing.

You may not be aware, but the comet spell heaven's casters have does damage to gates as well as all the units on top of it. Not that gates are that hard to bust down with a group of grail knights, but you can thin out their wall defenders with comets while doing significant damage to the gates to make entry quicker, and maybe open an extra breach with the trebuchet. Not the best at sieges still but maybe not as bad as you'd first expect. Mostly i wanted to share that spell quirk.

Just want to make an suggestion that it would be useful to see the result of auto resolve prior going to the manual battle. For one I think how the doomstack perform in auto resolve should weight alot in the rating as after a few manual battle, most people would just auto resolve to save time. Second it would be nice to know how much difference it makes by playing manually versus auto resolving.

"Gilded Cuirass" A Bretonnian item which bestows eight armour, melee defense and Regeneration was equipped by The Fay Enchantress. I know this becasue you mpused over the item in the first second of the video. On account of their fantastic armour, ward save, magic and physical resistance they're good against arrows or bullets or the magic attacks of Elven Phoenix. Sheilds will assist mitigating missiles connecting to the rider but I suppose a weakness these knight possess is fire damage so High Elven dragons may challenge you if they can land a hit past these knight's 93~ MD.

Anti large is great because most spells aren't as good against single targets. Shooting them is also good, but basically SEMs are the bottleneck in defeating an army. So things that are good against them are in demand. And it's also good against cav and monstrous infantry.

anti large is very good, the main things it won't help against is foot lords/heroes, infantry, and missiles/artillery.

Honestly, the knights of Tor Gaval are pretty lackluster. I've tried it, mistwalker buffs, but really there's not much else for it, they're incredibly expensive, have a lower model count than other flying cav, and don't kill very fast. The knights are more like tanks, interrogate grom, get a tomb king in your box, and maybe a dark elf or something that gives some other good buffs. Or the skaven interrogation gives a ton of MD, I think VC and dwarves are a good combo too. Ethereal, and regen, with grom heal, or ethereal, and norsca for berserk. They are amazing for locking down armies, dive them in and arrow blast everything with non magical arrows so you don't kill your knights.

Could you share your thoughts on the state of the Norscan campaign in a video I'm really curious on what you would do and things? I recently tried playing it on Very hard difficulty and it seemed impossible to do it the indented way, also I think Norsca could be a very fun hard campaign if they did some reworks or something.

he's done a norscan campaign, so if you look back through his vids you should be able to find it. It does kinda need a rework, but there are a few things you can do to make it easier. One is not expand too fast. If you take over norsca too fast everyone will declare war before you're ready. Making friends with dark elves is also pretty useful. War mammoths are op late game, early on marauder beserkers are very helpful. If you're getting absolutely swarmed by enemies in norsca, then you can abandon and go on a horde type gambit. Not ideal at all, but norsca isn't good at defending and too many enemies can necessitate this. Taking skavenblight plus marigliano makes a decently strong alternate base. Taking out either bretonnia or the empire early can also really help, since you need both of them dead to complete objectives. Vampires and skaven are good friends to ruin dwell your ruins.

Norsca is one of my favorite factions. Very challenging, but very rewarding. The first key is you need to unite Norsca, which is super easy to do. You just need one strong army, and then defeat a faction leader in battle. Automatic confederation, no penalties. In the early game, effective use of javelins and chariots is typically strongest. And stay in raid stance to save money, even in your own territory if you have to. Then, you really just need to be careful about how many regular enemies you pick fights with. You want to rush the chaos invasion tree, but you don't want an order tide. So try to pick unpopular, weak factions to raid and raze. The bonuses really help, although some are clearly better than others. Then, you really just need to prepare yourself for the battle with Archaon. Declare yourself the true everchosen, and then your real campaign of conquest can actually start. Prior to that, you gotta play Norsca more or less as they are in the lore. You stay in the north, you fight other Norsca, you only leave to raid, you build up tribute from the dark gods and go on hunts for buffs. It's a slow burn game, it might be 100 turns before you go any further south than northern Kislev. But once you have all the campaign buffs, you're nearly unstoppable.

Sadly, this is not the case. Blessed Field Trebuchets say that they don't hurt friendly units with their explosions, which is true. However, the projectile itself does do friendly fire. Also, Blessed compared to regular Field Trebs do TONS more damage with the missile itself, but less on explosion. Test it out yourself and see! Those Blessed rocks hurt a lot. XD

I tried with this kind of doomstack as well (had a stack of 8 Grail Guardians and 8 Grail Knights). Wasn't impressed by its performance though - late game cav with poor AP doesn't amaze me

The major downside is the front cavalry has higher chances of getting stuck in melee, and a normal formation has a better impact (more cavaliers making contact with the whole line = more damage)

Empire melee cav is pretty trash, but pistoliers and grenade launcher pistoliers are very nice to have a couple in your army if you like microing, especially the grenade launcher ones can rack up hundreds of kills fairly easily, even in sieges since they actually can arc the grenades onto/over walls.

There's a tech that gives +10% speed. There's an easy to get trait that adds another 10% speed on top of that too. 5 assisted battles and any lord/lady can get the "Saviour" trait. :)

Yes he does. I learned that in my most recent campaign. Any Hippogryph knight will give you Siege Attacker. Lord, unit or Henri.

Shift+click works like it does on desktop files. It selects all units from the first click, to the second. Ctrl+click will select +/- 1 at a time.
