2 years ago I was in a lesson session with Mark Tremonti and as we had extra time before the back stage tour he pulled up a Shawn Tubbs video and talked about how great of a player you are and if we’ve seen your videos. Super cool!

Thanks so much, David. Mark Tremonti is a killer player and I'm truly flattered that he would mention me. Thanks again David.

Shawn Tubbs His practice rig for the Last Hero Tour was a prototype combo amp (MT15) apparently and a J Rockett GTO for OD. So I don’t know if he found out about those pedals through you or what, but you obviously have done a lot for getting JRAD products to the public. But yeah, he was showing the class a way to slow KZbin videos and he’s like, “Here’s what I’m currently learning” and it was a snippet of a tastey lick you did in a demo. So cool!

Best demo of this amp I've seen. Most demos dime the gain immediately and only show that side. Thanks for showing the versatility! Inspirational playing...as always!

I completely agree. Is a very nice counterpoint to some of the more metal - oriented demos. Not that I don't enjoy those! But I think that it's a good perspective because I'm not always chugging away..... Shaun always does such a great job on his demos and really helps you make objective decisions.

Got one of these a couple weeks ago and for the money, it is awesome. Comparable to many amps way above this price point. And it is so freaking loud... seriously with a full band at full volume it still cuts through.

Shawn what do you think about using this amp, on the clean side, with pedals? Do you think it has enough headroom for that? Sort of as an alternative to the D20?
@ShawnTubbs2 жыл бұрын
It's a very efficient amp for sure and has more headroom than the D20.The clean side of the MT takes pedals ok, but the D20 is better for that.

Thanks for this demo which covers everything you could possibly use this nice amp for. Can you avoid that breaking point you mentioned, when playing clean and "Digging into it"? Maybe by rolling down the guitar volume? I would love to be able to play all clean somehow without getting that crunchy tone when hiiting the trings harder. I know, over all it's a gain amp, but maybe there's a way to play it all clean?

@ShawnTubbs6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Sean. There's a lot of great hi-gain low volume friendly amps out there for sure. The Friedman Runt series amps are pretty killer and Mesa does some great low volume amps as well but really for the price and versatility the MT15.

Hi Shawn, great demo. In your opinion how would this go for a gigging amp? I favour edge of breakup + modded marshall style strat tones..looking for a reasonably portable amp sub 1k that still has great tones and good build quality..thanks!
@ShawnTubbs5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Nathan! The MT15 is a really good portable amp. If you're wanting "edge of breakup" style tones it might be a bit aggressive but that can be a relative thing. There have been some other amps that have come out since the MT15. Revv released an amp called the D20. It a 20-watt all-tube amp with IR loading tech embedded. It's not a channel switching amp like the MT15 but if you're more pedal-based I would check that out for sure.
@DalelCampbell6 жыл бұрын
Do you think you do a demo of the lead channel with a strat? I love the clean channel and want to see if the lead channel is usable for what I do. Thank you for a great demo either way!
@paulkielt93014 жыл бұрын
To me a Pull Boost would be useful on the Lead channel as well. 15 Watts with two 6L6 power tubes means it's a Class A amp, or maybe I'm wrong?
@dstateswimmer4 жыл бұрын
Honestly on the gain channel, it feels and sounds as if its already boosted. Me personally I like the versatility of this amp and keep it low gain, and boost it with a tube screamer for the lead tones. But if even if you have the gain at 12 o clock, its a monster

Is it loud enough for playing live in a bar, without mics?
@ShawnTubbs5 жыл бұрын
It is considerably louder than 15 watts but I don't know that I can vouch for it within the parameters you've stated. Really depends on the size of the room and how loud your drummer and bass player are.
@mdkotler6 жыл бұрын
Shawn, did you notice a lot of hum? I just got mine in and love both tones, but even the clean has a surprising hum. It’s definitely not the guitar or the outlet as I’ve checked my 5150 for reference, and that’s pretty damn quiet.
@ShawnTubbs6 жыл бұрын
So, with no guitar plugged into the amp it's humming or with a guitar plugged in and the guitar's volume off you're hearing a hum? I haven't noticed any unusual amount of amp hum from mine. Maybe reach out to PRS and see what they say.

Question: When the treble boost is pulled does it doing anything to the gain or is the gain set, and turning the knob only affects the amount of treble? Nice job on the review, glad to see that the lead channel is capable of some mellower crunch :)
@ShawnTubbs6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Brian. The amount of gain is static that the treble boost adds to the clean channel. Turning the control only adds or takes away treble.
