PRS MT15 80’s tones

Really just a run thru of tones with some on the fly adjustments. A good day in Calif when you come home from opening day at the local ski resort and change into shorts because it's 75* in the sun filled house.
It gets better,...upon arrival I notice a box on the porch! A new mini head is here! I get her unpacked and proceed to peel paint from the walls with this amp that absolutely exceeds all expectations!
This demo was done because 98% of all the other MT15 demos were doing death metal drop tuning type riffing and so there was a huge ? as to whether this amp would work for my gigging needs.
Someone said you need to mic it -rubbish. Thru a 4x12 the volume is barely on 2 and it sounds massive and I play in a hard rock -Loud !!
Regarding it being a dark amp, I would say with V30's or Creambacks you will hear all the mids you need!

Video ive been waiting for. How do you think this compares to the SLO 30 for a home playing hobbyist only? For 80s metal style mostly. I mean should I really spend 3k on an SLO for home volume use only? Subjective I know but I saw your SLO 30 video.

For 'Home volume' I am using my Fractal FM9. Both the MT and the Slo 30 are absolute beasts volume wise. No tube head 15 or 30 watts is going to be a bedroom head. The Slo blows the MT away in every way for a band unless you want that more compressed darker Mesa type tone. I am thinking of getting the Slo mini. As a solid state head it can be gigged with or sound good at a lower volume...

so can I ask you what you had the clean channels settings at? do remember if you had the boost pulled to on? I find the volume difference between the clean and dirty are way out, clean should be much louder. So trying to see if you remember how you set up your clean channel.

No idea, this was in 2019, sold the amp a few months after I got it. Way too compressed and mesa esque for my style.

Probably one of the top 2 or 3 reviews of the MT15 on youtube. Love your playing man, absolutely killer. What bridge pickup are you running in this guitar and in your Jackson V?

Thanks!! Pick up is the Dimarzio AT-1. It Really pairs well with this amp. The Jackson V is a special sounding guitar. It has a Duncan JB in it.

I have mine run through a mesa boogie 2 x 12. Pairs really well. Great little amp. But needs a attenuator if you are playing inside a house in my opinion. Loud even when you switch it to 7 watts.

The Jr has a really odd dark gain structure for me. Much different than the 100w version I owned. A dark amp that gives you the option of raising the mids to sit in the mix well is great however, the JR mid knob does not allow the mids to ever really come out in the gain structure if that makes sense? That's testing with Creambacks, V 30's and Greenback/V30 4x12 cabs . The Mezzabarba amps are totally different in that they are not compressed at all. Plenty of mids and options for tone sculpting. The mids are full bodied and sit in the mix in a pleasing manner. Trinity much more than the Skill 30wFor the MT15 it definitely likes V30's best because it is a tad darker but can be shaped with it's eq as well as speakers that allow it to shine! It has a great gain structure but it is not as harmonically complex as the Mezza's.But it is still KILLER!!! I will use it this Sat for a pub gig. Merry Christmas as well!!

cragginshred Tnx for answering! Which one do you suggest, because I would like ONE amp solution with no compromises in my little home studio. (For the gigs I use my Fractal Ax8) I play rock/ metal 80's oriented with some modern down tuning staff but I need absolutely 2 channels and the clean channel must be awesome!! For the price and function you cannot beat the MT15. It can do bedroom volumes on the 7watt mode but it is very loud and gig worthy. I will use mine this Sat pm with the Ax8 in the truck as a back up

Sounds fantastic honestly! .A couple of people say that this amp has a lot of hum noise even on the clean channel and its almost unplayble ,did you notice something weird when you plug pedals on the fx loop ? a hum or something? or you have problems in your clean channel? .In this video with the isp noise gate dosent seem to have these problems its pretty quiet, its true? because im thinking of buying this amp but im a bit worried with the noise ,but i want to believe that with a noise gate will be good.Thanks for your time.

I did not have noise, depending on what your playing I liked the EVH LBX **v1** way better. Actual mids present. If you like more drop tunings you might like the MT15 better.

That's a great range of playing. I'm curious what speaker you think sounds best with this amp. I spend some time playing metal but I really like mid gain crunch more.

Thanks, def a V30. To me it's a pretty dark amp and the v30's would allow the mids to project more.

​@@cragginshredI have two Marshall 1960 cabs. One with all G12T75's. One with 2 Creambacks and 2 V30s in an X pattern. My MT-15 sounds absolutely KILLER with both cabs. Very different tones, but both great. I think I actually love it paired with the G12T75's the most. It just sounds fantastic. One of the best amps I own.

Thanks! Gain is not even a 1/4 way up mids and bass are below noon. I had a hard time setting the dials on this amp and ultimately punted for the much better (for me) EVH LBX

@@cragginshred Thank you! I am worried the amp will be too loud as I live in a house with my family, however I really want a valve, been considering this, and the Marshall dsl20. I do play mostly heavy rock and metal, so I am more leaning toward the prs, but I am worried it will be too loud.
