Great job pruning some "very" over grown Knock Out Roses. If you prune every spring they will stay manageable so you don't have to perform major surgery like you had to. The skeleton on these roses is strong and you can really make them so much healthier and attractive with correct pruning.

Do you have another video of these roses after they have bloomed back?I want to see how they come back after pruning.You said they will bloom in about six weeks.??

That was awesome! I have two knockout roses I bought last year, and they have already gotten twice as big as when I bought them. They have to be the easiest roses to grow. Its s pretty also. That was some heavy prunning. I hope I can stand to do it when the time comes.

I like your videos on taking care of roses. I have around 50 roses altogether half are hybrid teas and the rest floribunda. I am not familiar with the knockout roses but i might try some next spring. They look more bushy than the other types.

I live in north Georgia and I have a knockout rose that is about 10 years old. I didn't know how far to prune it back. I just kept deadheading it. Now it's out of control! It's about 8ft tall and probably bigger around. I started cutting some dead limbs (I call them limbs because they're so big) and found that all the blooms and greenery is on the tips of the branches. How far can I cut it back and when should I do so? The blooms were so many and heavy that it nearly broke. Please help. I love my roses and want to keep them healthy. Thank you!!

Your rose is old! Get some cuttings if you can!! Always keep the dead limbs cut out. You’ll want to keep the fresh new green stalks that come up. I’ve seen the older roses die out in the center to the point that it begins to look like 2 roses. Keep it fed with a 10-10-10 occasionally, during the active growing season. Cut the rose 1/4 to 1/2 way down for winter if y’all have heavy snow or ice (to keep it from breaking down more). Good luck and thanks for watching!

Great video! I didn't know you had to prune Knock-Out Roses, but obviously they are gonna need it. I have yet to buy any but am planning on doing so next year when we have a yard to plant things. I live in Texas, and I have seen some of those get really large in other people's yards!

Hey! Yes you can prune them now... and pretty much anytime of the year. But remember that it will be about 6 to 8 weeks before it is in full bloom again if you prune them back hard.. so it's easy to schedule when you want them to be blooming.. say, for a party or something.

@randelld42 ..You are welcome! Here in Georgia, the KO Rose can still bloom into December sometimes- especially if we are having a mild winter! I just prefer to cut the roses back in early early spring...

@bek12 ... yes! The Knock Out Rose is an amazing shrub rose. It is very dependable and can handle some severe pruning where some of the other roses cant. It blooms for about 9 months altogether. It keeps on blooming- even after being pruned...

I've never pruned my knockouts, and it's now early April. Is it safe for me to prune them, or should I wait for next year?
@gardenmagik15 жыл бұрын
Hey girly! Yeah, these roses can get huge... and im SURE you will be able to prune them heavily (especially when it becomes a "have to" issue)... heehee... good luck! Thanks for writing!

I live in Illinois. Can I prune my KO rose bushes low right now in the last days of summer / first days of fall?
@gardenmagik12 жыл бұрын
Not a bad idea,but the KO roses usually have a natural v-shape.. You will have to cut them back hard in the spring to keep them looking lower as roses like to show their knees (or shins)... I left you a comment on your channel page..

You wouldnt have any trouble- the soil needs to be good, but if you start out with the Knock Out rose, you would learn very quickly! Just try it- no luck needed!

wow thats really a big difference!,, so it's ok to go more than a 1/3rd of the plant? I have a big rambler that needs major pruning. thanks for the lesson !

Thank-you for your video's. My question is that you talk about pruning the knock out in to a V-shape size, someone wants me to prune their rose bushes like it was a hedge. Good idea or bad idea.

Hey what do u do with those cut out stems? can u give me ? :)
@gardenmagik13 жыл бұрын
@LSUTigerMom ... Well, if you prune them 3 times a year, selectively, they are in constant bloom almost! and you wont have to prune them so hard in Feb... They look better when you do a little pruning all along, as they get older...

@tucker2202 ... No, dont prune like that in May.. but find the tallest 3 stalks and cut them about halfway down.. then take 3 other stalks and prune them about 1/4 down.. just be selective to makesure that the rose still has a nice shape after you are done.. it should produce blooms again in about 6 to 8 weeks.. feed with a 10-10-10..

Not all plants should be cut back so hard- but the roses usually need some rejuvenation from time to time.. Thank you for commenting!
