This record is about existential/spiritual (depending on what you don't/believe) homelessness; this is what I believe it is and why I identify with it so much. It left me disturbed the first time, but more by the way that it expressed parts of me into words than being traumatized by the sound. It gave me and many others an emotional voice, and that's pretty cool.

I really really liked this album. I thought it was beautiful throughout even the pain to my ears during certain parts added to the experience turning this art into somthing you can experience on a physical lever. My favorite track was Poinsettia Pills how that beat kept head nodding kept though that cluster fuck of noise. Awesome!

I fell in love with Prurient's Niagara Falls, Bermuda Drain, Through the Window and Time's Arrow. I'm more into those synths, drones, ambients, vocals and lyrics than noise. Is anyone know anything similar?

Difficult. Fernow has is own style. Especially Niagara Falls and Bermuda Drain are epic, cinematic alike works. Sugar Cane Chapel is immense!

I rate every one of the releases you named very highly, both simply as a metric for my personal appreciation as well as relatively when looking across the entire Fernow/Prurient discography. I would add to this list his album Pleasure Ground (2006) as well as a lesser release of his that nevertheless feels to me to be a great work of creating (and then sustaining) a certain feel/vibe throughout the entire track list, Time Began In A Garden (from 2008)

To speak to one point, Profound Lore has released ambient and noise stuff in the past. Even well before the Full of Hell record so this isn't too far off base for them at all. Wold has been on the label since about 2005 I believe.
@GizmoFan19 жыл бұрын
cannabinoid what other genuine ambient/noise stuff have they released? Wold doesn't seem like a straight noise band considering they're just an extremely raw and badly recorded black metal band (except on Freermasonry).

Hey Fantano, have you considered Lil Ugly Mane's new release? Its 2 hours of experimental instrumental hip hop that ranges of sounds from noise to techno. Its currently #4 for 2015 on rateyourmusic.com with a mid-high 3.9. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

@pulsedemon9 ай бұрын
Fantano I agree with your criticism on the first half maybe not being 100% cohesive although in my opinion this isn’t really an issue, I don’t think this album necessarily needs to be tracks perfectly flowing into each other, it’s noise after all and some of the hard edges are interesting in my opinion. What I do not understand though is why you didn’t like „Jester in Agony“. In my opinion this track creates a fantastic soundscape, a cold, heavy and dark one coming in waves. It leaves you with some room for interpretation. How is this agony experienced? Maybe the waves are repeated gusts of wind during a snowstorm affecting the homeless who are in agony. Just my perspective on the track. Either way thanks for reviewing this, I would love to see some reviews for Prurients more recent stuff too, or maybe even a Vatican Shadow project but I understand if you don’t care for that side of him. For me this is the only 10/10 score I have given on an album so far

MghUnit407 I can't speak for Jake, but I like Prurient's kind of music because it makes my life an abstract music video of sorts. It sort of puts me into another realm of logic and events, you know? It's like... The sounds you hear on a daily basis when you're just walking through the world is the soundtrack of your life. Listening to music like this replaces that soundtrack with another one. It gives you another world to explore, if that makes any sense.

The weirder the better is what my taste say when searching for music. The only complaint I have about the album is that I wish there were more of the 80s inspired sounding stuff. Honestly I respect the amount of effort put into this album but it is by far the pinnacle of Prurient's disappointing output to me as of late. I understand the progression and desire to grow but I feel like this album is just trying to appeal too broadly. This is confirmed by people's lack to go any deeper than Black Vase or Pleasure Ground; people aren't trying to reach back and understand releases by this dude dating to the earliest of the 2000's era, where to me, some of the best releases actually lie. Could be my nostalgic experience with his early material, or could be because it's just actually the best stuff. When you juxtapose this album with stuff like that, it'll probably make a lot of sense. Look for the more conceptual releases!

How the hell did this particular review get so many views? Is it because the album got BNM'd by Pitchfork? Just seems crazy that a review for a noise record would get more views than your Of Montreal, Hudson Mohawke and Hot Chip reviews
@terminalbungus95669 жыл бұрын
Probably has to do with the fact that prurient has been putting out records much longer than those other groups, and has/had a strong cult following. Also if you like Of Montreal, you probably have a decent idea of what to expect from their albums and might not seek out the reviews because you'll just buy the album on good faith; prurient has had ups and downs and huge changes in sound and style over the years so maybe more people rely on reviews to find out of the album is worth checking out.
