PS4 Pro Loud Fan Fix and New Thermal Paste

I got this PS4 Pro used from facebook marketplace and it was a great deal and the seller had everything packaged well and even included a bunch of games. When I turned the system on and booted into a game I was greeted with a Jet Engine in my living room. I slowly figure out how to open the PS4, clean it up and replace the thermal paste to see if it helps...

Great vid, I did this for my PS4 Pro as it sounded like a jet engine when playing Apex Legends. I didnt replace the paste though, I just used the paste that had overspilt when the two surfaces were clamped together. I also cleaned the fan and the dust from everywhere, and most importantly, made sure that the cooling matrix was clean. Mine was actually damaged, (from factory!) so I bent the fins back into position. Its now as quiet as a mouse and I've been playing on Red Dead Redemption without a sound 👍

Hey man just a heads up, it will get loud again, anywhere from a month upwards of three to four. When it gets loud again replace it with good thermal paste. I did the exact same thing like two years back on my Pro. It got loud again within a few months, changed it out for real the second time, been quiet since.

I did this for my ps4, the original one lol I would clean it, but this time I did a thorough clean & I replaced the thermal paste as well. Also, I installed an SSD drive so it’s quiet & smooth. Dope video!

I just did a full tear down of my model 1 ps4 pro and replaced the thermal paste. (And full clean) OMG the fan hardly even spins up now. Sadly I ended up with on black screw I couldn’t find a home for. Also the thermal paste on mine was gray and super dry. Pain in my butt to get it off.

The PS4 pro sounds like it struggles and super slow i cleaned it put thermal paste on it and it’s still fairly loud

Whats the best way of applying thermal paste to the APU , seeing that its rectangular , a vertical line in the middle ? Or covering the entire chip ?

@@KRSRK there are multiple ways that work equally well and you can reference a Linus tech tips video on it if interested. An X seems to work really well, a ball in the center as long as it's enough paste, a line even, spreading yourself is unnecessary but that works too.

Mine sounds like it's mixed with a weed whacker that fades on n off to the point I have to turn it off to keep from punching it off my desk. It's really annoying after awhile.

Not specifically, all I can say is you should probably open it up and inspect it, make sure it is clean and nothing is hitting anything else while it spins.

Try opening it up and putting some washers between the cpu screws and the mainboard on the bottom.

@@GamerZ075 open up your ps4 clean the old thermal paste and apply high quality paste and also change the crap thermal pads
