I signed up for the Best Buy email notifications and not even 10 minutes later I got the email that the pre orders were live. It took me 5 hours of constant clicking but I was able to get a pre order for it. But they 100% screwed the pooch on this one. Don't tell people it starts the next day when it starts literally in like a few hours lol this was so poorly handled.

Same does applies to some other companies as well, Yesterday on Games-workshop there was some pre-orders occurring for Limited Edition book. 7 Minutes after pre-orders went live it was sold out, while 3 minutes later there comes e-mail from company that "hey this product is on pre-order click here to order it, aaaaaaand IT'S GONE!". While also prob not being first time, but there don't seems much of angry ranting about it except. When its being sold out on like 3-4 minutes and finding most of them in Ebay for double, triple or quadruple the price set.

The problem is this pre-order culture in general and third party scalpers buying up all available product with their purchase bots so they can churn them out on eBay for 2-3x the listed price due to there being none left on the market. Preorders need to start being made to meet demand or this will never end.

He’s stated it’s actually a good thing that Sony had a surprise pre order launch because now the scalpers didn’t have time to setup their bot software and they didn’t have a chance to scalp all of the PS5s if you actually managed to get a preorder in you should thank Sony because the scalpers didn’t have a chance since Sony didn’t stick to a specific date

my guess is they kept retailers in the dark when to start selling because Sony wanted to get their pre-orders out before xbox and was playing the chicken game to get the date. Since the dates are so close they probably didnt have enough time to schedule with retailers when live dates were supposed to happen and instead retailers took the date of their announcement as the go ahead for pre-orders lol.

I had literally 2 games from Xbox and 6 games from PS I wanted to play. Retailers put out the pre-orders early. Sony might be responsible, but it seems like retailers tried to be first without regarding what Sony told them. The fact that Amazon still hasn’t added the pre-order is a pretty good indication that the retailers are at fault.

I rushed to my local GameStop like an hour or two after the ps event and there was already a line. I was like fine there are just 8 people ahead of me. By the time my turn came, the employee came out and said we just sold out. My heart sank. I came back home and tried every website everything, dealt with GameStop "you are blocked page", the amazon dogs, Best Buy's never ending spinny wheel of death - for hours. I was finally able to secure one from Best Buy at 1 o'clock last night.

Best Buy employee here: This is actually par for the course for Sony lately. When the 2020 TVs came out, our area rep didn't have an exact timeline on when we'd be getting them, because they were still figuring everything out. A truck that came in about a week later had a pallet of them ready to sell. This guy has historically been able to give me every detail of new products, and he's always been up front with me if he's not allowed to share information yet, so I trust him. It seems that Sony either doesn't inform their own employees and retailers about their plans, don't come up with a plan to inform their employees about, or change their plans on a whim. This actually doesn't surprise me that much.

I work at GameStop myself and we where shocked, we had an email from the higher ups saying they received word that we could pre order them and that the employees should pre order theirs right away before the 17th to ensure they have a system. My understanding was that it was available for only employees at first but apparently they opened up the pre orders for everyone. I hated how they did this without giving us warning.

when the email told that pre-orders started today i was hyped. but when one of the gamestop employee told me that they were sold out last night i was furious of the false marketing that confuses not myself but also other people who wanted to pre-order. Like i knew it was limited but i didn't think is was really limited. but what bugs me the most is that everyone is getting different notice of when the pre-order is going to happen. And i was complaining to them on why didn't they call me for pre-order because i sign up in a list for them to call to pre-order, which now they force me to enter my information AGAIN!! on their new signup list to be called when it gets restocked.

Yeah there's no way people where out buying it in droves. Someone just ran script to purchase massive volumes of stock. I literally had it on the Best Buy Cart, in the seconds it took me to put my payment info it was sold out and my order was canceled! Luckily snagged the disk one on Amazon but it wasn't the digital edition that I wanted.
