Gamers Nexus said the base PS5 is at GTX 1070 / Vega 56 level at best. Sony said the Pro is like 45% better which means 35% on average. If we give it 50%, which Sony did NOT claim. I thought this would be worthy of at least a mention, and then perhaps once the details come out you can give it it's own news segment, or perhaps dedicated news video with a Linux security expert, I would watch that and I have Linux servers here at home and this is obviously very concerning for me as I imagine it is for most of your audience.! New intel Fabs are not yet ready for production and old ones are not capable to produce this nodes. About the Arrow Lake performance, even assuming perfect frequency scaling (both in performance and frequency across all of the cores) and that it clecked at 4.0 GHz to reach 32,200 pts, at 5.5 GHz it would reach 44,200 points. 9950X scores around 41,000 points. However, as you said, it bounced at around in low 4s to 4.5 GHz. Assuming 4,3 GHz average, it would need 5.5 GHz to reach 41200 pts and 6GHz to beat Zen 5 by ~10%. That's highly unlikely. The only unknown for us is e-core frequency. They could have clocked them at 2GHz for all we know. But making the guesstimate, the ES used was close to final and e-cores both were not clocked that low and won't reach much more than 4.5 GHz in production CPUs, if they even reach 4GHz due to the node used and limited power/voltage. So I am positive about Arrow Lake being competitive but I would not put my money on it beating Zen 5 in nT. It may however outperform it in 1T, as Lunar Lake does.

If ps5 pro was able to double frame rates (like, demon's souls remastered at 1440p 120fps with regular low cost upscaling, since double the frame rate really helps temporal upscaling, not "pssr"), and had an integrated drive, I'd go for it at $700 (tax included). Regarding Switch, I'd expect at least a 4X increase on EVERYTHING in docked vs docked mode, including storage, total CPU performance (at least 2X in single thread), included memory (16gb), bandwidth and GPU performance, plus DLSS. Basically, be able to take a game that used to run at 1080p30, push it to 1080p120 locked, and upscale it to 4k (docked). And in portable mode, lower frame rate to 60fps and upscaling resolution to 1440p from about 1018p (1/2 the pixels).

Gotta disagree with you on this one. IMO PS5 pro isn't worth the cost, especially with the same CPU. Depending on what you play, it's cheaper than PC upfront but PC won't be much more expensive in the long run and may even be cheaper. You don't need to pay for online and I've saved so much money on games since I built my PC for the living room last year. You can upgrade parts too so it last longer. The steam sales and steam keys from auth retailers are just waaaay cheaper and even new releases can be cheaper. I paid less for BG3 and Dragon's Dogma 2 on release than what was on PSN. Youtubing how to build a PC last year and building my own to play on the TV with my consoles was the best gaming decision I made and Sony is what drove me to seek alternatives. I hated PC gaming before at a desk and on K/M but playing it like a console solves that. Plus you can get mods, free cloud saves a better media center etc. PS5 is my last Sony console for sure but I'll probably get the new switch.

PS5 Pro is a great value Some of these fanboys are delusional If its still zen2, its basically a 4700G I have the 4700S and the BC250, both based on the PS5 SOC Know what holds back the PS5? Zen2 4MB of usable cache per core 2CCX 1/4 the cache of the 3700x and 1/2 the cache of the 5700G This means it hits the 256 bit bus far more often than it needs to, stealing those RAM cycles from the GPU I REALLY REALLY Hope the PS5 Pro is Zen3+ on 6nm++ otherwise we might see some games having the same max frame rate as the PS5, just with higher visuals. Which to be fair is good for most people, but Cmon, an extra $20(after factoring lower yields due to larger die) could have DOUBLED the 1% lows. Based on my own testing of the 4700S, 4750G, BC250, and 5700G(5700G moves to a unified 8 core CCX with a 16MB L3 pool up from 8MB split between 2 CCX, making up to 16MB available to any one core, compared to 4MB on Zen2 APUs) Console optimizations are an amazing thing, do you know what makes them even better? Better hardware. Sure that 4700S might perform similar to a 5700X on windows/linux, but i'd imagine a 5700S would perform like a 5800X3D or even 7800X3D. All it would take is an extra 20mm² on what i am assuming is a 360-400mm² die(maybe larger if there isnt a die shrink).

No surprises with Lunar Lake. Against AMD: slower MT, faster ST, equal GPU, better battery life in light/idle workloads. Against Qualcomm: slower MT, faster ST, faster GPU, equal battery life. No emulation issues. AMD is best for professional users. Good MT, good compatibility, good GPU. Intel is best as Macbook Air competitor. They only lose in MT perf to Qualcomm, which doesn’t matter much in this segment. Better compatibility matters more. Qualcomm isn’t best in either segment. Their GPU is clearly behind. Their DX12 drivers are unstable. They have MT parity with AMD, but many professional users need compatibility.

Ryzen AI doesn’t fully scale to desktop replacement laptop category either. The older 16 core HX series based on desktop CPU design are still used in this class. New HX chips based on Zen5 desktop are coming according to rumors. Now that Ryzen AI has 12 cores (+50%), it scales to cover most of the range. Lunar Lake on the other hand has less cores, so it can cover less range than before. Intel has to lean more on their desktop replacement CPU on laptops. It’s fine if Arrow Lake can scale down to acceptable TDP levels for mainstream gaming laptops. Not everybody wants a 2.5kg behemoth.

If I had to guess now I’d say expect similar native resolutions as base ps5 but with an end result far better
@jayg3392 ай бұрын
The PS5 Pro has a couple things going against it right now that differentiates it from the PS4 Pro/One X. While the price is part of it, I don't think the 699 price would've been seen as that bad if it included a stand and a disc drive. People who buy consoles just want to purchase their machine, plug it in, and get to gaming. Even though it's easy to buy and install the disc drive, it's one more step that people have to do which they probably feel they shouldn't have to. Plus another $110 on top of a 699 price tag that was already cutting it may turn off people who would otherwise purchase it. I know I am kind of in that same boat. I had the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X and thought they were great systems(especially after i installed an SSD in the PS4 Pro). I just don't know if I am that thrilled to drop $699 on a Pro console as opposed to just waiting it out until the PS6 and do some more PC gaming in the mean time. Another part of the Pro's success hinges on the actual PS5 Pro. Even after the announcement and some quick gameplay clips, I still don't feel like I have a great grasp as to what the PS5 Pro's performance and image quality is going to be. With the PS4 Pro, I had an expectation that most games would be around 1440p and checkerboarded up to 4k with similar settings as the base PS4. With the Xbox One X, a lot of games supported native 4k or resolutions above 1800p. Part of PS5 Pro's appeal is it's upscaling method PSSR, and the quality of that is still up in the air. All in all, it's kind of tough to tell what the future of the PS5 Pro is going to be right now, but I'd really like to see some more gameplay to get an idea of what Sony is selling here.

The Series S RAM being split is not an issue for games. The console has 10GB, 2 of which does run 56GB/s, this RAM is used by the OS for system functions, devs do NOT have access to it, the series X is the console that as slit RAM issues, as 10GB runs at 566GB/s, 6GB runs at 336GB/s, of which devs have access to 3.5GB (2.5GB of the slower RAM is used by the OS). The series S main issue is the overall lack of RAM, 12GB (giving devs 10GB) would have been better, even if that RAM had been slower, but Microsoft expected more games to Sampler Feedback Streaming but not many (if any) have used it on console or PC. Plus Id argue developers are abusing FSR on PS5 and Series X, how after 3 years we had games running at 720p on these consoles is beyond a joke, the software being developed is not being designed for the consoles, the best running/looking games this gen targeted the hardware correctly and look good, ironically the games are also quite often cross gen (Forza Horizon 5, GT7, Horizon Forbidden West, GoW2), it feels like devs have done less and less low level development and relied more and more upon UE5 to do all the hard work for them. Astrobot being a prime example of a game designed for PS5 that looks great and plays great at the target frame rate, I have no issues with a dev using FSR or TAA to take a 1440p image to 4K for performance modes, but some of these games coming out tax my 5800x3D/7900XTX at native 4K without tech like frame gen and FSR, and honestly I dont think any game this gen actually looks better than Horizon Forbidden West, Forza Horizon 5 or even Gears 5 with the Series X patch..........
