Fun fact: The melee weapon "The Flint" is actually the severed arm of Concierge put on a stick! (Note how the charged crit attack does the same flame wave as Concierge does in his fight before jumping)

Even cooler fact: Flint has amazing damage potential on paper, but it sucks in reality. Why? Because the displayed DPS is wrong for every Flint but 'Flint I': for some reason it doesn't scale with gear level like it is supposed to, making it deal 1/3 to 1/4 of the damage it should on 5BC. It is one of the most versatile weapons out there if it would do the damage it promises.

I Play hollow Knight too and i think its a pretty cool weapon but it Kills the experience in Bosses since some dont have a moveset that can defend against you Pogoing above it.

You can crit while swiping up too, which can basically lock enemies up in a falling animation. It doesn’t work on elites or bosses, but you can have a second weapon for that. It doesn’t belong in D.

I'd personally move the Katana above most of the other S tier weapons. There's a simple trick that makes it absolutely busted: start charging up the dash attack but cancel it with a jump. The closer your jump is to the exact moment the attack would go off, the better. After doing so the next dash attack you attempt will pick up where you left off with the previous dash attack that you canceled. So if there was only 1 frame left when you canceled then your next dash attack will take 1 frame to go off. A dash attack "stored" like this lasts the entire level. You can do whatever you want before unleashing it, it will always be ready. This effectively nullifies the one limiting factor of the Katana making it basically the strongest weapon in the game.

This also works if you cancel the dash attack with a roll but jump cancelling is usually the safer option to do since it doesn't use up your roll.

Something of note: While the Flawless itself has it's issues, it is one of the best items to use with Porcupack for Brutality builds. Getting your scaling all the way up to 110% makes rolling with this thing hit like an absolute truck.

i'll do you one better - queen's rapier. if you're talking about late game, 25+ scrolls, i've used it with cursed sword in the main hand, the rapier in the backpack hit more than the cursed sword itself.

Another possibility, to run flawless is using Foresight in the Diverse Deck. While having a numbered curse, Foresight does prevent you from dying if you take a hit but of course only once. However, that hit protection comes back in 5 sec. I would assume that since Foresight prevents you from death via numbered curses I would assume it also prevents the crit trigger for flawless turning off.

A common misconception about Sym Lance is the fact that you need two kills at the same time. However, you still get crits if you kill 2 enemies within 1 combo, if your back-to-back hits kill - you still get the sweet crits, and that makes it much more powerful in biomes, and even bosses like Conjunc and Scarecrow. Albeit, you have to focus on keeping the combo a lot more, but I think this weapon deserves A- tier.

my third run I got an orange Flint III-L with a 150% damage on frozen enemies. I got frost items on my 3 other slots and got my first boss cell in 3rd run. Star upgrade for Flint makes it so that you do not have to charge it. It is pretty busted

As someone who recently beat the collector, I have to say I think the flint is incredibly good. Not only is it probably the best legendary in the game (not really sure on this, he doesn't talk about it anyways), but paired with predator, you go from enemy to enemy one shotting them. Charging is just a bit easier to pull of than he says

I feel like Tombstone is underloved. Easily my favorite survival weapon. A huge plus is that you don't need to connect with the first two attacks to trigger the third "burial" attack. It's also surprisingly agile for a Survival weapon. You can float very nicely with the third hit, and even turn mid swing to react to enemies.

I once got the *_Tombstone V-L_* and it was completely crazy! It is known that the third attack creates a shockwave that "traps" whoever is near, right? well, that one in particular, created that same chain shockwave as if it was from the same weapon. That time I easily reached 30 Kills with no damage and 60 on the next level.

For giant slayer, a good strategy for not having to use it in biomes is just dropping it at the beginning of biomes and switching to the weapon in your backpack, then picking it up later when you enter the next biome

Buff Idea: Instead of the Crowbar naturally critting on Beastal enemies, instead making killing such enemies grant you the same crits as breaking door, essentially make rats and bats your doors in biomes without doors. this should be a pretty powerful buff as it crit conditions is essential now breaking doors and killing certain enemies, which you will be doing all the time anyways.

13:19 Flint is a great weapon and the only reason it 'falls behind' is because it literally does. It is a programming mistake. Flint does not scale with gear level like it is supposed to. You can easily see this when you look at the floating damage on higher BCs that it gets nowhere near its displayed DPS.

I like that you're talking to other people, which is good. It's obvious a lot more thought and effort was put into this than previous lists, and I hope this trend continues for you. I think my biggest issue with the video is that while it is mentioned a couple times, you don't stress nearly enough that tierlists shouldn't dictate your playstyle (i.e. you shouldn't not use a weapon just because it's 'low tier') which I'm sure you'll agree with. You say 'you should unlock everything anyway' a few times but that's not exactly the same thing, and I see new players on the DC discord saying they don't use a weapon because it's low tier or asking if it's okay to use low tier weapons in high BCs, so I would say that is a legitimate problem tierlists cause if proper context isn't given. The video even opens with "So you want to know which weapons are good or bad in Dead Cells?" and that immediately appeals to the 'don't use these weapons, do use these weapons' mentality in my eyes (but I might be reading too much into that). More on the nitpick side of things and because I really like Wrecking Ball, I found your logic in ranking it to be a bit odd. This is how Oven Axe is described in the video before its ranking: "It's to no one's surprise that it's one of the slowest weapons in the game...takes like five seconds to get its damage started." "With enough support and assuming you can chain together hits, the damage potential is absolutely insane...What I'm trying to say here is that from a purely damage perspective, the Oven Axe has among some of the highest in the game. You are going to have to earn your way for a win, but it's no trash item." Verdict: B tier So, it's slow, but it's made up for because of how much damage it deals and because you can maintain the combo by use of support. Cool. Makes sense. This is how Wrecking Ball is described in the video before its ranking: "Almost without a doubt the slowest weapon in the entire roster...the game is really designed for faster playstyles in general, so being slower than enemies can cause you to whiff some attacks altogether." "If the speed isn't too good, what about the damage? Can it hit hard enough...well, kind of...I will admit the damage from the final hit is amazing...but the journey of getting there is not [satisfying]." "You have to slog through three incredibly sluggish hits...and if you dodge roll or stop attacking for even a short amount of time the combo will reset." Verdict: D tier Now, let me just give some statistics here. (You can skip this if you want, it's really me just coping and seething for several hundred characters; TL;DR Wrecking Ball does more damage than Oven Axe faster than Oven Axe; its by no means the slowest weapon in the entire roster nor are its first three hits any more sluggish than Oven Axe's.) Strike chain: > First hit; both weapons deal 200 damage. OA has 0.6s of windup + 0.2s of endlag, WB has 0.7s of windup + 0.4s of endlag. OA is ultimately faster, and since they do the same damage, that means it also has more DPS. // The wiki currently says WB has 0.8s of windup on the first hit; this was reduced in u30 and the new values can be seen by extracting the weapon files via modding tools. > Second hit; OA deals 230 damage, WB deals 180 damage. OA has 0.75s of windup + 0.25s of endlag, WB has 0.62s of windup + 0.25s of endlag. WB is ultimately faster but OA does more damage. WB does more DPS, technically (206 vs 200). > Third hit; OA deals 250 damage, WB deals 120 damage. OA has 0.8s of windup + 0.46s of endlag, WB has 0.7s of windup + 0.1s of endlag. OA does more DPS (198 vs 150) // The wiki currently says WB has 0.83s of endlag on the third hit; this was reduced in u30 (thank god) and the new values can be seen by extracting the weapon files via modding tools. > Fourth hit; both weapons deal 500 damage. OA has 0.8s of windup + 0.46s of endlag, WB has 0.8s of windup + 0.46s of endlag. I think you can figure out yourself that their speed and DPS are the same. // The patchnotes say the fourth hit got a speed increase but the files seem to match what's on the wiki so I don't know what's going on with that. It's taken a total of 4.32s for Oven Axe to finish its fourth hit. WB also has an invisible cooldown that prevents you from doing the fourth hit too soon after the third hit -- the value is unavailable in files sadly but I'll assume it's 0.73s to be consistent with u29 when WB just had 0.83s of endlag on the third hit to prevent the same thing (0.73s of cooldown + 0.1s of endlag = 0.83s delay) -- given that, it's taken Wrecking Ball 4.76s to finish its fourth hit. Oven Axe has dealt a total of 1180 damage, and Wrecking Ball has dealt a total of 1000 damage. So Oven Axe has better DPS, right? Well, not quite. Wrecking Ball's fourth hit will hit most bosses and elites twice, doubling its damage, and since its a ranged attack, it benefits from Point Blank for an extra 225 damage (450 total since it hits twice) giving it a total damage of 1450 on the fourth hit and an overall combo damage of 1950. Oven Axe has the distinct advantage of being able to do its crits indefinitely, though, so it only takes two more swings for it to surpass Wrecking Ball in damage at 2180. *So, in total, it takes Oven Axe 6.84 seconds to deal 2180 damage while Wrecking Ball takes 4.76 to do 1950. With Point Blank and on bosses/elites, Wrecking Ball does more DPS.* _(We can even be generous and say you don't take Point Blank with Wrecking Ball which gives us 1550 damage in 4.76s for Wrecking Ball and 1680 damage in 5.58s for Oven Axe; WB still has higher DPS.)_ So what am I trying to say? Basically, you use the logic of speed + damage when ranking both Oven Axe and Wrecking Ball, yet despite its statistical advantage, Wrecking Ball gets a D tier ranking and Oven Axe gets a B tier ranking. Even if you don't spend an ungodly amount of time looking at the statistics between these two weapons for a youtube comment like I just did you can at least see that they're _close._ In the end I do actually think Oven Axe is better than Wrecking Ball, but that's because of the continuous crits and extra range on the melee hits, not because it's faster and more damaging. (Although I don't think Wrecking Ball in D tier is reasonable either -- if I had it my way it would be Oven Axe in B+ and Wrecking Ball in B) If you did take stuff like range and backendedness into account for this video, it would make more sense to me if you focused on or even mentioned them during the ranking instead of just DPS. I guess that inconsistency just really struck me (clearly).

Maybe I'm just bad but I just naturally came to the idea that one group of weapons/skills is usable and one group is unusable in 5BC. Weapons like the Swift Sword, the parry staff thing, Magic Missles etc I find just don't seem to do enough. I'm not the type of roguelite player that restarts until I get _exactly_ what I want but I also rarely force myself to experiment. So, I do use weapons I consider bad from time to time but it never seems to work out for me.

@@Scroolewse Well, some things have a learning curve (and survival is one of those things). They aren't gonna be winning you runs the first time you use them. A large part of the skill in this game is being able to pick up anything and use it effectively. You yourself said that katana was a lot better than it seemed if you learn charge storage techs (although I disagree that it's "busted" in that case; hardly comes close to literally oneshotting bosses with a multihit ranged weapon and smokebomb). The difficulty of using a weapon should be considered but at the same time if this is being judged at a 4/5bc level as claimed, it's reasonable to say that a weapon having a bit of a skill floor is not irredeemable.

​@@theviralmelon i think people prefer oven axe more than wrecking ball because of biomes wrecking ball have insane damage potential but they are only useful against bosses and elites you don't really need that much damage to kill normal enemies to both weapons, you only need first hit to kill them and oven axes first hit is more faster and have more range and if someone can deal with bosses with the slow speed of wrecking ball, i'm pretty sure that person has no problem dealing with them using oven axe or other weapons too. wrecking ball have really, really huge damge output and that the problem it deals too much damage with isn't that necessary still, killing bosses with wrecking ball feels really awesome those damages fucking huuuuuuuge

The broadsword is definitely my favorite. The fact that u can delay each hit in the combo makes it cool to use. Specially with phaser. U can initiate the first two hits in the combo, then phase behind the enemy and just use the last hit. Almost 100% assured oneshot

18:51 I actually found that when paired with infantry bow or even assassin's dagger the hattori's katana can be useful against ground level bosses like the concierge, time keeper, hand of the king, etc. This is because you can use the katana to dash behind the boss and then attack with assassin's dagger or infantry bow for a guaranteed crit from both weapons, whether it's because ur close or bc ur behind the boss.

Fun fact : if u hold dash and spam flint , it will cancel animation and hit twice as fast , this works with armadillopack too , do what u want with this information

Great job, my favorite dead cells creator~ I have one complaint though. You rate the weapons based on strength, so why do you sometimes suddenly start mixing in all this "vanilla this braindead that"? A newer player might skip straight to the complete list and think sadist dagger is bad or something... Still, I can't emphasize enough how much I appreciate your yearly tier lists, thanks man.

Side note: while the panchaku itself isn’t all that much, it’s rapid hits and the fact that the combo has so many hits in it, means that it makes you a god at applying effects, get the skill with the poison effect and the melee mutation and it’ll melt any enemy’s health insanely fast.

An extra point for pure nail, it combos extremely well with other melee weapons, like extremely well. I find that blood blade, crowbar, the greed dagger thing idr the name of but it crits when get gold, the bat, starfury, and Swift blade all combo especially well with it. However on kb&m for some reason it can only work if you put pure nail in the left slot, and start with left click and alternate between left and right.

I honestly think wrecking ball can be quite decent if you practice with it a little. And a fun gimmick it has is that the third attack where you throw the ball can go through walls that are thin enough, allowing you to hit enemies that you normally wouldn't be able to hit

I loved the meat skewer. I started using it today and saw your guides and flawlessly beat scarecrow and the Queen. The I-frames it gives are so good that the queen couldn't even land a single slash or parry attack.

I just started playing Dead Cells on the Switch and I understand why people love it. It's a different game on each run. I started with melee weapons but then I decided to switch to ranged weapons and it feels like a completely different game. As soon as I beat the Hand of the King, I'll go for the DLC.

Machete and pistol rework theory craft: similar to the hardlight, it takes up both slots; your melee attacks strengthen your pistol, going from simple pistol shots, to a blunderbuss shot, and capping at a single cannon shot (idea being you have uses for fodder and bosses). Throw in one mutation called Scrounger (or w/e if that’s taken, newer to the game) that speed up the pistol powering up.

if you have the sake fang and pure nail you can put your settings to "hold to attack" and hold both weapons down at the same time. have the catalyst on the poison one. then have a melee, combo, and open wounds mutation. you will shred through everything

Ik this is old but panchaku is S tier. If you pair it with the combo mutation, open wounds mutation and melee mutation, you can stack up an unethical amount of damage while anything you touch gets frozen in place. Even with bosses that you can’t crit, it still shreds due to its insanely fast hit rate.

dead cell is really interesting rogue-lite games. i still remember my first finished run, is with Flint V-L and Frost Blast. The combo so well done that i finishes all bosses in few seconds

bladed tonfas, dagger of profit, frantic sword, gold digger, hattori's katana, pure nail, rapier, rhythm and bouzouki, scythe claw, snake fangs, valmont's whip

The bladed tonfas can work with the spartan sandals, if you're close to an enemy, kick it with the sandals and leap towards it with the tonfas, also the Iniciative mutation works well too, since the first hit is the most important

Im glad to hear that my time going into mastering Valmont's whip isn't entirely wasted. I love the extended reach and its ability to ignore shields and take care of those pesky damage barriers is wonderful. I only recently finallly beat the game [by killing Dracula hilariously enough] but I seriously love this thing

Spike boots actually got a pretty significant change when they replaced its old combo with the current rising kick/heel maneuver. What it used to do was regular kick, double kick, regular kick, with incredible high breach on the double kick. In a large majority of cases, the high breach combo'd with the crit condition would allow you to faceroll biomes since you were pretty much guaranteed the stun to interrupt enemy attacks. The new combo leaves a lot to be desired in that sense, especially since it messes up low profiling projectiles from inquisitors and arbiters.

On a random note for the crowbar, I think the emergency door needs to have an offensive use, like the shards of the door would fling to enemies damaging them scaling off of tactics.
