Back in the early 80's, a Mountain Rescue Org out West sold a nice little kit in a tin the size of a Prince Albert Tobacco Tin...had tea bags,sugar,a tube tent and such...was designed to keep a stranded hiker alive overnight anywhere...I have pretty much based all my kits since then on their ideas....

back in the early 70's , our scout troop would challenge each other to make psk made from bandaid tins ... was alot of fun to use for a weekend try out , yes 2 days n nights with just our kits . we were allowed to wrap a drop cloth n a cord on the outside . kinda wished we had mylar back then

This is an awesome kit. I like your philosophy, tin kits are cool but this gear actually looks usable. Well done.

The altoids tin doubles as a char tin. I would throw some small items in the tin and then throw the tin in the pouch, and only use the tin if I needed to make char. Great vid!

Anybody can make a kit. But using it. Now that's another story. MAJOR CHALLENGE : spend one week a long in the Deep Woods with nothing but your kit and the clothes you got on nothing additional no additional food weapons guns or anything like bows and arrows except for what's in your kit only and survive off the land using only that kit for one week or long be even better now if you can do that without making excuses then you've done something

Wilderness Truths I have done a 3 day with just my kit and I will say I learned so much about what I did right and wrong. Every one should do it

Swap out the paracord for survivor cord as it contains tinder and flexible wire for no extra weight. It also has around 7 strands inside, which gives you many options from fishing line to sewing and sutures.

I like your video. Fanny (or whatever) packs are fairly common now. I got rid of my water purification pills and added a Sawyer filter to my kit, and a comb. I gave your video a ‘like’.

You could save a lot of room and weight, or give yourself several times the length of cordage by swapping the paracord out for kevlar cord instead. 100lb line is all I've ever needed, and that's just 0.48MM diameter in kevlar. 500lb kevlar is 1.5MM in diameter versus 4-8MM for paracord (different brands and strengths have different diameters) and the only use I've ever seen for 500+LB line is climbing. If that's not a likely problem you can do more with less by using kevlar cord.

Growing up on boy scouts we used alice gear, my first personal first aid kit I stuffed into an altoids can, same with my emergency survival kit! Both fit in my compass pouch. I always use that as a basis for when I make people kits for gifts and whatnot.

Without question all that should be in a tin that only just goes into the bag, so you can cook, boil water, and even carry water in it

Actually it would be a good idea to carry a few items on your person. I don't go for all the gimmicks that most of these kits are/have. One should already have the proper gear/equipment with us, but things can happen. Set your pack down and lose it, now what. I like to carry at least a map, compass, lighter, matches, whistle on my person when out in the woods.

Is the compass a backup? You must have a Cascio with one or a Silva watchband compass?

I need to make a psk. Right now I have a nice altoids kit, but I want to make a bigger one.
@fanofrunbot97717 жыл бұрын
Get the larger size British cigarette tin (with silicone gasket). It'll fit a SAK, Olight, Celox & Duct tape, Bic, bandages, whistle, button towels, cash, meds, even mini fishing kit and Kevlar twine. Belt mountable with right pouch.

Couple of Questions. Are you carrying an IFAK in another pocket, because I don't see any First Aid in there. Also, what are you writing on that you need a Sharpie, because I don't see any kind of Paper. Finally, I'd go to the Fabric Store and get some Bright Orange Cloth for a Signal Panel and Thread it through the MOLLE. That way you're not swinging a Bag of Water over your head if you need to Signal a Rescue Chopper. Food for Thought.
@billythepigeon73454 жыл бұрын
1: a sharpie can write on a number of surfaces. 2: he's quite clearly called this a "personal" survival kit, made for his needs personally, the challenge is for you to build your own. So if you think he's done anything wrong correct that when you build your own.

compass will be useless... (especially without any maps to go along with it). Better replace it by some bandaids, gazes, alcohol prepad and few pills... First aid actually.
@3riverblades7 жыл бұрын
nicolas galasyka that's why it called " personal" survival kit. Rock on with your band aids. I'd like to know where I'm going.

nicolas galasyka A map is not necessary to use a compass. A compass is only useless if you don't know how to use it.
