I think I've figured out how the spear was supposed to help kill Heimdall. Since Heimdall can read minds, he could dodge any attack that came his way, unless Kratos somehow got lucky with a hit. But Draupnir's enchantment meant that he had too much to focus on and couldn't read Kratos' mind properly during his fight.

@@hiddensinix2767 I wasn't a huge fan of that explanation - since Kratos controls the explosion so that's still his intent, but I think OP's explanation works since it may just be too much to keep up with when there's both the threat of kratos physical attack and his draupnir explosion - which are two different distances from him and have two different timings to deal with

its also because it can duplicate, heimdall is not only dealing with a weapon that he doesnt fully understand, but its also one that demands he split his focus on, which is straight up a hard counter to him, given he reads minds, so he has too many things to pay attention too and it allows kratos to land the hits needed to fully throw him off.
@charliecomer6001 Жыл бұрын
That and kratos is still holding back, combined with just how much heimdall relied on his power. Kratos has dealt with arguably faster opponents than heimdall, so there is the possibility that he's DELIBERATELY going slow to test heimdalls reaction speed. Notice how during phase 1, kratos moves a little faster each time heimdall is stunned, up to the point where he actually had to BLOCK, meaning kratos had the ability to strike him.
@vinnydaboi78302 жыл бұрын
The spear is important for Kratos as a character, it is literally the first significant weapon Kratos has received that is solely his own… The blades were forced onto him as a sign of his slavery to Ares, the axe was given to him by his wife. But this spear, is just..his…no one else’s…it’s not a heirloom, nor a binding token, it’s just his own weapon, and is a reflection of who he was before becoming a god, and who he is now as a reformed god.

@@Pattabazza I can’t ignore the coincidences. According to the Wiki: Odin (/ˈoʊdɪn/;[1] from Old Norse: Óðinn, IPA: [ˈoːðenː]) is a widely revered god in Germanic paganism. Norse mythology, the source of most surviving information about him, associates him with wisdom, healing, death, royalty, the gallows, knowledge, war, battle, victory, sorcery, poetry, frenzy, and the runic alphabet, and depicts him as the husband of the goddess Frigg. A lot of what gets associated in Odin can be reinterpreted as something Kratos has acquired in ways coincidentally like Odin did in mythology. -Speaks to the Head of Mimir (who is his adviser) and was directly responsible for bringing Mimir back to life -Is implied to be marrying Freya at the end of Ragnarok, meaning he is ALSO “marrying Frigg” -carries a spear whose functions are suspiciously similar to Gungnir’s legendary effects -also carries Draupnir ring -he collects poetry -he leads the Vanir and Aesir to true coexistence Among many other deeds. I would argue that Kratos CAN be Odin. Or is, by historical or mythological misinterpretation. A common theme throughout both games is that what is remembered by history is often a distortion of the true story of the events, warped by time and retellings both benign and malicious. The irl Norse Lore as well has many missing pieces of its Prose Edda and Poetic Eda due to Time and other misinterpretations clouding the details. So saying, Kratos could fit right in to the mythos and assume the best parts of Odin’s lore while being mistaken for Odin if the writers choose to have him there. As for the matter of Farbauti, the giants named him that as well as naming Atreus “Loki,” as you said. This does not stop Farbauti from being Kratos (or vice versa), or Atreus from being Loki (or vice versa). Nor would it stop the two from being named other things, or assuming other titles. As a matter of fact, a mere three names is NOTHING compared to IRL Odin. Odin in mythology famously has a ridiculously long list of names attributed to him (seriously, check out the wiki and type “List of Odin’s Names,” and see how long it takes to scroll down), all attributed to deeds he did, nicknames he acquired, or identities he assumed as a traveler. Kratos can likewise have more than one title or name, as well as multiple roles in this story. And I will argue one of those roles IS Odin. Inheriting his role as All-Father, leader of Aesir and Vanir, uniter of worlds and new commander of the Einherjar, Valkyries, and the new world, Kratos has everything lined up to step into the role as the new Odin.

I like to think that Draupnir spear as Kratos's true weapon in the norse era of God of War. While Kratos will always cherish the Leviathan Axe (as it was the weapon of his beloved wife) and has begrungingly accepted the Blades of Chaos as a part of himself (as well as not being able to get rid of them), the Draupnir spear is the weapon that is the most fitting for Kratos himself. As a spear it serves a symbol of his spartan heritage, as it the weapon all spartans learn to use, and resembles the Arms of Sparta, another spear that symbolizes Kratos's homeland. Additonally, the Draupnir Spear, compliments his Gaurdian Shield, given it's resemblance to an aspis shield, a greek sheild that was often paired with a spear.

In mythology, the Draupnir ring was created by the dwarves, Brok and Sindri (also known as Eitri) as one of three gifts for the Aesir. The others were the powerful hammer, Mjölnir and the boar, Gullinbursti, which glowed gold in the dark and pulled the chariot of the Vanir god, Freyr. The ring would multiply every 9 days and produce 8 more of itself, making it an endless source of wealth. It is said that the story behind it (and by extension, Mjölnir and the boar) were made after Loki challenged the dwarves, saying they could not make items superior to the works of the Sons of Ivaldi.

Why's everyone saying the spear is gonna start a war? the blades are way more dangerous.
@ES-dp6tw2 жыл бұрын
It's more the intent. Kratos had the weapon made specifically to counter and kill a god he knew could be a threat to his son. While he only intends to act if needed to protect Atreus, it's essentially a declaration that he is willing to shed more Aesir blood and so provoke retaliation, thus war.

Actually both are god slaying weapons the only advantage of the blades of chaos is that it's cursed attribute

@@ES-dp6tw not just a threat literally intend to kill Atreus
@Nanoqtran2 жыл бұрын
It's gonna start a war because there is a thin truce between aesir and the others as long as no other aesir are killed. The weapon is crafted with the single purpose of killing an aesir meaning the intent to break the truce and start a war has been made.

Because the spear is literally the weapon used to kill Heimdall, which kickstarts the actual Ragnarok war

0:51 I love just how much disrespect Odin has for his adversaries, that he is willing to waltz over and try to touch the spear without Kratos permission, not that he would ever give it, but I also love that Kratos does not make a scene and just silently and quickly moves the spear from his reach.

theres a good parallel between the Heimdall fight and the sceen in the house where Kratos tells at hes not ready
@shashankrao232 жыл бұрын
the nature of Draupnir replication leads to multiple probabilities which Heimdall might not be able to foresee like one can be thrown , one can be stabbed , one can explode , one can slash etc...

I see everyone talking about how Draupnir is the first weapon that's really his... but more than that, symbolically, it's the fusion of his old life and new. A spear, the Spartan's weapon, the blood of an Olympian. Draupnir, the Norse ring of bounty, the blessings of Brok. Together, combined into something unique, a middle road, the perfect blend of who he was and the people who have changed him.

I like the idea that his new spear is, unlike his past cursed weapons or those he takes from others, was forged explicitly for him.

Imagine if we could use the weapons of the Dead gods like Heimdall and Magni's swords,Modi's shield and metal ball,Odin's spellbook and spear Gungnir and to close the Thor's hammer would be incredible It's a shame there weren't these weapons for us to use and some weapons for Atreus/Loki like the Freyr's sword Making a reference to Loki's sword in the original Mythology and in the future a spear/staff for him and maybe new bows like the bows of the Gods Ullr and Hodr that didn't appear But they may in the future Who knows right? 🤔😁👍🙏🙏 Like and Bye!

I felt like odin was scare when he saw kratos with spear, because when he saw true groa propechy he saw a god of war with spear, because kratos dont have spear at the time he think it was tyr who lead ragnarok, and because tyr was in his dungeon he can rest easy, but when he saw kratos with spear, he know the god of war that groa prophecy mention is not tyr but kratos

Their are many Reasons for War, and many Gods of War to go with them Kratos clearly represents and has become the God for those who would only go to War because their want (or have) to protect those precious to them. Often because their aggressors give them no other choice but Violence... Admittedly one of the more noble ... Kinder... Albeit sad reasons for War.
