i just got the psvr 2 but wow the sweet spot is extremly small. smallest sweet spot than other headset i have tried. other than that, i like it so far but dammm sweet spot is really really dissapointed

@@ji3200 i Got mine and i co firm that for me the sweet spot is extremally small, fov seems similar to psvr1, mura is quite noticable and distracting especially in dark environments of re: village and what is the worst for me is a reprojection. Something is wrong with it because in GT7, horizon and in GT7 even i see double images or rather frame insertion i should say. It is quite distracting and image seems to be more blurry in motion than i would like it to be.

Agreed. It’s fantastic value. My original pcvr set up cost me nearly £4000 here in the UK for my pc and valve index. The ps5 digital console and psvr2 for £950 is amazing value. This is less than the price of the valve index itself.

Thanks Sebastian, only you finally answered my old consternation about edge to edge clarity and sweet spot. Somehow going from O+ and G2 I had bad understanding that sweet spot is always in the center (just vary in sizes by product)and gives only clarity in the center, and when you move you eyes out of center, clarity drops significantly. In case of PS VR2 sweet spot is right but very sensitive hmd head placement which gives you best edge to edge clarity on whole plane of vision not just in the center. Good that you don't have to move whole head to center vision on objects of interest but you could do that by eyes only too.

I use a vrcover I bought for my O+ with g2. It allows me to get my eyes really close to lens and that way the sweet spot gets a bit bigger.

Yes the further images aint as clear and there is a bad ghosting affect on certain games especially the new starwars

Thanks for the details, Sebastian. About that smearing/blurring you mentioned - do you only see it in contrast areas, or on the entire image? Ben from R2VR says he's perceiving it every time he rotates his head, on all content. Did you try lowering the brightness setting to see if this reduces the effect? I'm interested to know.

Apparently my assumption was correct. SadlyItsBradley has slo-mo footage on twitter showing the differences in duty cycle based on the brightness setting. According to him, the 25% value offers a good balance between clarity and brightness (subjectively, based on his personal blur sensitivity). Come on Sebastian, I expected a deeper investigation of the issue from you :(

Same here mate, the colors are fine for me but the textures feel a bit low res and the resolution itself feels a bit low, hell it even feels blurry a bit, like the foviated rendering is working at all, even tho eye tracking is working perfectly fine

@@harleydavidson2218 Well obviously, but the grain and softness are a little off putting. Also Sony should’ve not kept flashing the words 4K OLED all the time, that was misleading. It’s getting better though. Tried kayak and I’m impressed. Almost was going to send it back for a refund, but now I couldn’t imagine doing that whatsoever. Especially after just turning on my original PSVR. Wow I forgot how bad graphics looked in that headset. I tried swordsman and there was so much antialiasing and bad textures going on, I guess I forgot just how bad. This is definately a step up from that no doubt

I returned mine because it was so blurry all the time but maybe I really just didn’t find the perfect sweet spot yet. It was like the foveated rendering didn’t work at all. Just the very center was kinda clear. Everything else looked terrible. They will send it back to me next week and I‘m gonna try to find the perfect sweet spot to finally get this clear view everone is talking about. Any tips on that? Should I maybe try to calibrate it ingame?

Thats Normal, sadly its normal for the lens used, its what most devices use the Fresnel lenses, PSVR1 used pancake lenses and now pancake lens are coming back to fashion [Pico 4] pancake have smaller FOV, but no issues with sweet spot, you can look anywhere an it looks the same

I found that looking at text and moving around the headset until it was at max clarity in both eyes with no distortion around the letters was the best way to zero in on the sweet spot to make it more mostly clear from edge to edge, i had to make sure the headset was closer to my eyes. I wear glasses so I had to still worry about getting them too close to my glasses but i found a nice spot. it still isn't perfect edge to edge clarity but much better than I was experience before. keep in mind it's 2k per eye right up in your eyeball. it's not going to look like your 4k tv or hd smartphone however in games it's pretty impressive

Great video, this is the best example ive seen yet of foveated rendering. On the TV screen the stuff to the edges looks a lot softer. I know this will not be noticeable to the wearer.

Thank you again my friend for this info! Super excited about the binocular overlap....I try to explain this to my non 3d enthusiast friends usually to no avail. The only thing holding me back is I cannot find any information about apps being available to view my personal VR movies as I can do on my Quest which isn't really great at it. When they stopped supporting Google Photos they lost me for a future customer. I don't want to experience another company like Meta limiting the use of the headset for me. Did the original VR headset have apps that supported this? It there a VR browser? I have a Vuze XR and would really like to view my files in a better environment than Quest....

Just been testing mine and its GT7 and RE8 that make it worthwhile. Coming from a 4080 pc / Quest Pro, i don't find the optics that good in comparison, especially the sweetspot and screen artifacts but for its price and content it's decent and if you're coming from psvr1 it's a nice upgrade. I definitely won't be selling it and it'll sit nicely beside my Quest Pro ;)

Hi seb, great video mate, my only pick with pancake lenses are they are dull like sunglasses, yes they are clear but compared to a clear lense their is a big difference like old active 3d, so I sent pico 4 back because of this, be interesting to hear your thoughts on big screen headset vs ps5vr headset, one day they will make a perfect headset, maybe 😁

Hi Grant. I think this is why Sony went for the custom Fresnel instead of pancake lenses. With pancake lenses they would have lost the brightness of the hdr oled panels. It seems a fair trade off in this case.

Great video as usual and I got my PSVR2 yesterday but as a long term VR user of multiple headsets I would say I was slightly disappointed with the Mura. No one ever seems to really mention it but I feel like I'm looking through dirty glass most of the time... is this normal or was I just unlucky with mine??

After reading a lot about it, i believe it's similar in all PS VR 2 Headsets and some people can just blend it out and some can not. Try to not look for it and enjoy and if you can't, this Headset might just not be the right one for you. I wouldn't trade the brightness and contrast of the PS VR for the little mura there is, but that's just me. It doesn't bother me at all and i can simply ignore it.

Using a quest pro daily, I recently tried the psvr 2. First of all, yes the price difference make those two headsets virtually impossible to compare. However, let's just put that aside for a moment to focus on the image quality. The psvr2 screen does produce vibrant an bright images, with dark blacks. On thoses points, the image is probably as good as on the quest pro. However, I would say that ,for me, the biggest problem are the lenses. Don't get me wrong, thoses are pretty darn good fresnel lenses, but still fresnel nonetheless. The image clarity you get from the quest pro is simply night and day compared to the psvr 2. And the thing is that, this clarity, this "everywhere sweet spot", is actually helping producing a final image that have more vibrance, better color accuracy and just ... feel more real. Probably because the fact that the sides of your fov are as clear as it can be, help the brain to feel more confortable. The immersion you got from it is something else. You don't have this feeling that you need to "force yourself to beleive" you're immersed, you just are. I know it sounds a bit confusing, but this is really something you can only experience by puting the headset on, and it's quite hard to explain. So overall, I think the psvr 2 is a great headset and probably one of the best, if no the best, price for quality ratio you can find in vr right now. However it is what I would call a "previous generation" headset. I strongly believe that pancake lenses are the future of vr and probably the major leap forward, in terms of image quality, we've seen yet. It make your realize that when it come to vr the final quality of an image is defined by the screens and the lenses at 50/50. On a side note, the thing I liked the most about the psvr 2 are the haptics. Damn, they are good and help you feels immersed. My quest pro controllers, wich have decent haptics, just felt flate in comparison. Personally I think the psvr 2 is an awesome and affordable way to start playing in VR. And if it can help making vr more mainstream, everyone will benefit from that.

Good video as always Sebastian. But I think we should stop comparing (normal consumer) headsets like the PSVR with the Varjo Aero and Pimax Crystal. I know they also say it is a "consumer" headset but let be honest, you need more than 2000$ to run each of them and you need a powerful PC and to be good at troubleshooting. Sony could've easily made the clearest visual if they don't care about the price, normal users and the ease of use. That is just my opinion. Love u tho!

Can you comment about how many games are in constant reprojection, causing ghosting on head and hand movement? I’ve experienced that a lot in pcvr before spacewarp/timewarp was perfected, and it sounds like a dealbreaker to me. I guess you may have not mentioned it since it’s a video about the displays, but I’d like to see some coverage from mrtv on this issue

Great video, Seb! What I like the most about your reviews and comparison videos is the fact that you don't shy away from clearly ranking the different options based on your opinion. I absolutely hate usual comments like "yeah, this is really up there with the best VR visuals". Totally useless for enthusiasts like us as we already know it will be great. We want to know EXACTLY how a specific headset stacks up against another specific high-end device regarding visuals, FOV etc. Seb always answers these questions very clearly (based on his opinion of course). In my case I wanted to know how the visuals stack up against my Varjo Aero and the upcoming Pimax Crystal. Regarding these specific questions, Seb delivered on all fronts...again!

Subpar experience in GT7 for me using this headset. The ghosting and blurry images in the distance is very annoying and takes you out of the experience. I’m getting a screen door effect. Over a short period of time the headset starts to cause some discomfort and pain around the forehead. If you loosen it it starts to move around on ur head. I understand folks want the vr industry to thrive but this doesn’t move the needle all that much for me and should remains a very niche hobby. Let’s bring down the hype a bit.

Actually, this binocular overlap is not something I see on my Quest Pro. Maybe it's because my IPD is wide (72mm), or I will start seeing it when I start using the PSVR 2.

I just received mine, and I'm completely disappointed. There is a grainy film over the visuals making them slightly burry. I have my headset fitting correctly. This VR headset is a step down from the HP Reverb G2. I had issues with all of the games not recognizing my right controller and after several hours, I finally fixed it. The colors are washed out compared to the HP reverb G2, not matter how I tried to adjust the colors and brightness. I plan on returning it for a full refund. Another issue is that your hand tends to slip to the top of the controllers after an hour of playing which causes you hand to crowd the buttons at the top of it. Note that I have a small hand and the buttons on the controllers at too crowded together. The accessories charger has no indication lights to show when the controllers have a full charge.

I thought same with mine too, colors look washed out and not seeing any deep blacks really. That screen supposed to be OLED, I expected it to look like my OLED tv. Looks like washed out lcd monitor. Not sure what’s going on. Will try readjusting maybe. Call Sony if nothing improves.

Totally agree, I was going to comment but you said it well enough. I've given it 3 tries since starting a return in case it's just me, and being a PS and OLED fan I'm gutted. The grainy film makes the OLED pointless as the blacks aren't black, everything looks significantly lower res than the G2. The 'smooth' turn movement in RE8 and Horizon demos I tried was awful and stuttering, I think they're both 60fps with frame insertion to 120hz. Headset feels cheap, like it would shatter if dropped from 3ft. I'm hoping the RE8 VR dlc comes to PC, I know there's a mod but an official version would be great. Oh, and Call of the Mountain is £60 for 6hrs... I'll pass.

I'm not sure why people are freaking out about the price. It's cheaper than the PSVR1. PSVR1 ($400) + Camera ($60) + Move controllers ($100) = $560 PSVR with everything included = $550

@@skoda10 I haven't used anything since PSVR1/Vive v1, but I will comment that I don't find the PSVR2 clear on edge-to-edge. I'm not 'new' to VR, and the image is *really good* but it does feel that many reviewers are praising it higher than the reality for many (and yes, I understand 'sweet spots'). Maybe there is a large variation in the product, but for me, the PSVR2 is absolutely blurry around the edges, even in Kayak VR. It's still totally awesome and fantastic racing in GT7 as well - just not the 'perfect 4K picture' that is often touted.

I don't get it. Apparently others are having a much different experience with this than I am. I'm a VR noob for sure, and have only owned a Quest 2 for about 2 weeks before I returned it. That was over a year ago. The problem I have is uniform clarity and sharpness. Nowhere in my PSVR2 is the display even as sharp as one of my normal 1080p monitors. I sat for 20 minutes trying to adjust the headset, IPD, etc.. The colors are great, contrast is great, but it's blurry af. I can see what I'm guessing is the 'screen door' effect and some pixelation. It's definitely not as blurry as the Quest 2 was. There is more clarity in the middle of the screen. Edges or near edges are somewhat garbled and distorted. I don't know if there is something wrong with my eyes, or whether maybe there are some display or resolution settings that I am missing. I've only seen the UI and one game so far, Star Wars. Absolutely loved the experience but sharpness of the display is definitely leaving something to be desired. Any advice?

That's normal buddy every one got conned . They where saying the visual are so crisp clear in you tube videos at the start before it came out . Head over to reddit and read all reviews . If you look past the people saying you are wearing it wrong reddit is full people saying blurry . I might be ok with it but I'm not buying until I can try it out innshop . Blurry is normal they use a plastic film over the lenses to hide screen door affect and the the lenses you look through are slightly blurry . Some people start saying oh I have got it clearer now after a week but its just your brain adjusting like when we played a ps1 we all went this is amazing for first time now look back ps1 graphics and like this is bad

It doesn't look exactly like this, it is grainy and blurred in places. That's not to say it isn't good, more to say lower your expectations. If you are anything like me who's fairly new to VR and you see these videos you think it's crisp......it's not. The experience all round is really good. I have got Kayak mirage, cotm, RE Village, and Pavlov and they all differ in wow factor. If you have the spare cash it's well worth the money but that's not to say at times you won't feel like the images could be better. I have nothing else but PSVR1 and some time on the quest 2 to compare it too. I'm happy enough, plus things can only get better.

Why didn't you mention the layer of mura which is plagued over the visuals? .Me and a friend returned ours for that reason, also games was not in a natively high resolution and have really poor and stuttering reproduction.

Im getting a really bad grainy image with mine. Its like having an overlay of a popcorn ceiling in front of the image. Bright scenes seem to help overpower it some but it still seems to be hazy from the grain, and dark scenes are completely ruined by it as it becomes extremely noticeable, ruining the oled dark blacks. It made Kayak vr unplayable in night scenes, i couldnt even see what i was doing through it. I also get a lot of blur when moving in games like horizon and it goes away when i stand still. I thought i was crazy so i put on my quest 2 and the image was Significantly clearer. I hope i didnt get a dud. And yes i properly calibrated it and have the sweet spot dialed in... the only way to get rid of the grain is to move it out of the sweet spot to blur it out of existance haha.

You didn’t, the screen door effect/mura is awful. You can thank the oled panel for that. Quest 2 display has practically no screen door effect and is significantly clearer as you correctly pointed out. Oled in VR just isn’t worth it, the blacks are great and the colors are better but the SDE/Mura really is noticeably bad. This is a pretty big step back from quest 2 in terms of the displays. There’s a reason no one uses oled in VR anymore and it’s not just because lcds are cheaper.

I'm new to vr so I don't k ow about other headsets but the overlap really breaks the immersion for me. It's like 2 crescent moons on each side. I've set it up perfectly but I can still see them. On some games my brain ignores them, like pavlov.

So that is why I'm not sure if the difference is worth that much money, because I already own VR1 and just could continue with this system. It wouldn't make sense to me to change to the new system just because it would be a little lesser blurry.

Coming from a PSVR 1 and having tried Quest 2, I must admit I am quite disappointed with the PSVR 2. The image quality is still poor, everything seem out of focus, and is also like there's a mosquito net on top of the image and the blacks are not even pitch black as I hoped... I also have a green dead pixel so I will try to get a replacement despite here in Uk you can only order the device online through Sony's website. I do understand that compared to other headset is kinda good but we're still far from getting a good quality picture generally speaking. I was probably mislead by the enthusiastic reviews that made me think it was better than what it actually is.
