8:10 You really aren't saving any money by just taking bulbs out, you have to disconnect power going to the ballast. Especially the older magnetic type. Rapid start ballasts use more power when starting the lamps, which is what that ballast is now trying to do 24/7 since there are no lamps. You also run the risk of the ballast burning up. Like at 10:15 been there, done that. Especially fun at 277v.
@kellymarieangeljohnson114Ай бұрын
Those light fittings can't use any piwer with no tube in because there's no circuit for it. Maybe just a tiny bit if there are PFC capacitors across the mains input but that won't show up on your meter anyway
@mxslick50Ай бұрын
@@kellymarieangeljohnson114 Wrong. They will use power and just enough to register, as the magnetic coils in older ballasts are still drawing magnetizing currents even with no lamps. Now, if the ballasts are electronic, that is a different story as they will quickly charge the input capacitor, then draw very little beyond that, as they don't attempt to start into an open circuit. I have been an electrician for over 40 years and know about this first hand.
@kellymarieangeljohnson114Ай бұрын
@@mxslick50 my apologies I was thinking of the semi resonant type fittings not the rapid or instant start types we do not see many fittings like that here in UK as they are nearly always pre heat although sadly these days LED seems to be taking over
@mxslick50Ай бұрын
@@kellymarieangeljohnson114 No problem and thanks for replying. You are correct with preheat (with a starter) fixtures will indeed draw no current at all since the lamp breaks the series circuit from the line, through the ballast and starter. I was in Ireland and IoM (summer 2022) and recall that the fixtures I saw were mainly LED or the older preheat fixtures. Cheers.

Seen plenty of old start vids, like sat for 30 years then fresh oil and fuel mixed with old and comes back to life. Luckily diesel just lasts longer than gasoline, but man I’d be scared to check the filters and water separators if running off of that old tank.

That's normal to have to use the start button to get it going again. Even with your coin-op machines, if you interrupt to add a few more pieces or remove some from the dryer, you don't lose your paid time, you just hit the start button, and off she goes again.

They ran these dryers into the ground. Huebusch gas dryers are junk. I prefer miele. I wish those dryers were 277 volt electric 3 phase instead of gas. Electric is much better. I see a bunch of breakers were tagged out. Ite breakers are old. You cwn get used replacements at an electric shop that selks used breakers. There is a market for used breakers. Also ubiz makes a lot of new generic replacement replacements for ite.
