"Highly sensitive person", or HSP for short, is a term coined by Dr. Aron for those who are thought to have an increased central nervous system sensitivity to process subtleties and details that most miss when it comes to physical, emotional, or social stimuli. these people are often more perceptive, empathetic, self-aware, and intuitive.
Here's a link to our Korean Translated KZbin channel:
/ @psych2gokr
Studies have estimated that 15-20 percent of the population is highly sensitive, however, many people do not fully understand what it means to be an HSP, let alone knowing if they are one of them. So, we've made this video to help you identify the traits highly sensitive people have!
If you relate to this video and think you may be an HSP, we've also made a video on the struggles HSPs can relate to. Here's the link: • 13 Problems Only Highl...

But the second someone goes “are you crying???” The dam breaks and I’m just sobbing. Another problem is when I like go to like calm down by myself and jazz, as soon as someone comes in to check on me, yuh oh, here we go again

Being highly sensitive is a blessing when you find someone willing to give you the time and care you need. I'm the luckiest person in the world to have my husband, because he doesn't find me odd for sometimes needing to ask him to spend a few minutes telling me that he loves me and wants me. Don't feel self-conscious because you need to be reassured... remind yourself you are _worthy_ of reassurance.

Sadly, I married the opposite. 😞 He ‘s very shallow, notices nothing, and focuses on himself. He doesn’t get me and I feel lonely and neglected every day. None of my family get me either and my sister made fun of me like I was slow and simple minded because I took too long ( more than 10 seconds) to decide what to do for the day on holiday. My mom stood there and laughed along with her while she abused me. 😢 often, while still working out an answer to a question people have already made decisions about something and moved on. I’m often considered too quiet but they never give me a chance to speak. Often in a group setting people would come over to talk to me or ask a question and my husband would rush over, push in and answer for me or try to get the group’s attention focused on him, even if it was just a trivial thing he’d done ( and I’d made a great accomplishment by comparison. ) It was like he couldn’t stand the praise, or attention I was receiving.

I’d like to add a trait or two to this: I’m an HSP, and I’m 61, so I’ve had a lot of experience with it: people, like your parents and friends, may not understand your sensitivity, and may ridicule you for it (my mother thought it was a weakness, and tried to bully me out of it. It didn’t work. I only shut down for a number of years.) Your sensitivity is a gift from God, so respect it and use it well! It CAN be easy for you to make SOME snap decisions, because you get an intuitive “hit” that this or that is the right choice to make. Also, friends can lean on you as a sympathetic ear. Just don’t let them wear you down too much. Remember, there are such things as energy vampires, who will take advantage of you if you let them (they’re not your friends!).
@cherylp.3347
@cherylp.3347 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Well-said! Spot on. I’ve experienced these things as well. It IS a God-given gift. These people are special! Unfortunately, the world treats them like trash a lot of times. Don’t become hardened, use it to spread love and to care for others!

@@cherylp.3347, thank you for sharing this! I completely agree, it is a God given gift and I'm doing my best to use these gifts adequately, in a positive way to help spread love and compassion to others. You are right though, this world can be so cruel and unaccepting of people like us, but I'm trying to love and accept myself anyway, in spite of being so misunderstood.

@@Psych2go it has its pros and cons but because I am very aware of myself, somehow I am able to control most of those traits I possess. If I dont do that consciously I end up very exhausted because I absorb a lot of negative energy around me. Meditation is one of the things I do to empty myself from those energies. I am an artist so painting is another way to keep my balance. Staying away from toxic people is another and going with calm people instead helped. Being vegan ( assured me I dont help kill animals) and No tv for almost 20 years helped me focus on the things that gives me joy. But I like those traits of mine as it makes me a better human and artist in my opinion. 😊

Some things I wanna share as a (possible) HSP: 1) Growing up, you have had to learn to suppress your feelings and internalize a lot of your emotions to yourself because few bothered to understand, appreciate, or respect your feelings. 2) You might rely more on your logic *despite* how you feel and perhaps, more specifically, as a coping mechanism/defending yourself from your emotional self. 3) You loathe blither. Pointless, mundane conservations (especially from sources you may not care for) may drive you away or mad (if you can’t escape). 4) You might be a wordy/long winded because you don’t want to be misunderstood- because you are constantly misunderstood. 5) You may be quite guarded as an adult, especially if you had unreliable friends or family that couldn’t empathize or accept your feelings. 6) You have bouts where you suddenly (for no reason) don’t have any desire to communicate with another or hang out. Or you may dread doing so. You may even go long periods of time without having much desire to reach out to said person because they may feel like a drain. 7) Growing up, you may have been a pacifist or at least hated violence and getting hurt. You also loathed hurting others. 8) You may not cry like a normal person does. While some HSP will burst into tears at the slightest thing, there are the opposite of us who I think are great at internalizing our emotions to the point where they rarely surface.

Yep! This is 💯💯 accurate. I am HS, when my therapist 1st said this to me, it took me 2 weeks to process and understand. I did not know if it was okay to feel offended or if I was being a "crybaby". It feels great to watch and see content on mental health. I feel normal on this channel. Thanks so much for explaining HSP as positive and gentle as you could. Dont be embarrassed people. I agree. I can’t stand confrontation. It makes me beyond anxious. I just have to move away or I’ll start crying. It’s bad. Especially with crying at everything. People have always told me that I shouldn’t be crying. My own sister said this to me when she was told about this at work. I’ve told my family multiple times I can’t help it. I’ve gotten better at holding back my tears just so people will stop being upset at me crying at everything, telling me it’s unprofessional, and calling me a crybaby. It’s difficult for sure

It's empowering to notice what we say about ourselves to ourselves. Have we bought into the idea "we are too much" and therefore hold back from life, so not to overwhelm people around us or be rejected once again? I love that in recent years high sensitivity has started to be seen for its strengths which were often seen as weaknesses. If only that be the narrative we actually internally embrace about ourselves too 🤔🧡

I’m teaching myself to demand less of myself. Like when I go to a social event, I just say: ‘All I have to do is go. That’s all. I don’t have to impress anybody, join conversations. I can leave when I want.’ That relaxes me. I can only handle small groups. And still I need a day for myself to recover. It’s good to accept that’s the way you are. Always stay true to yourself no matter what other people do or expect from you.

I've never been so related to a description like this before. I've been watching this channel for a couple of months now. Saw many videos, maybe more than 20, and in most of them there was at least one aspect described that I could relate to, in same way. Sometimes I felt like the whole video could represent small (or not so small) moments in my life. BUT this video, has described me in a whole new level. Specially the need to "recharge" after social interactions. I love hanging out with people, and I do look up for festivals, or parties. But at the end of it I'M DONE, like not wanting to have to socialize more, my cuota is done for two days. I know people who prefer to be alone rather than gathering up, but never saw the need to recharge elsewhere. (I know I worded this so poorly, but it's 4am for me and thinking is difficult right now).

I'm an HSP but also a bit of an adrenaline junkie- I get my rush doing normal human things- but I still need to pace myself when doing them. I tend to not avoid the things that was mentioned as things people with HSP avoid but rather enjoy them- but I still fit very much into all the rest of the categories and am highly sensitive, easily overwhelmed, and feel much much more strongly than most. I'm also an Aspie so I have learned to mask my emotions and can hold back my stronger emotions and avoid showing them or crying in public. Never really knew just how much stronger than the average population I was in holding it all back and just thought the emotional intensity was normal, but now that I know I'm proud of my strength

As someone with HSP, social gatherings can feel like trying to walk through a solid wall. Combination of light, sound etc. All add to make it feel like a wall. And unfortunately, i'm surrounded with people / family that can't comprehend what it's like to be overly sensitive. So they constantly try and recommend me to go out and be social, attend lectures about various subjects etc. But i get so easily overwhelmed that i can't even go home for more than a few hours to have dinner with family, without having to spend the next week recharging.

If your an HSP or empath like me and feel overwhelmed at times, in crowds, dont know why.. etc... try this.... At the end of every day or when you feel overwhelmed Visualise standing under a waterfall or shower of water and visualise feeling the cold water running over you and even through your body and out of your hands, chest, lower areas, feet and toes "washing away and cleansing" all the energy from your body and mind, until you feel "centred and just right"... Youll sleep and feel so much better.. keep practising and master it .... good luck and blessings to everyone 😀❤x

Do it anyway. My take from this is that this is who we are. These are character traits not character flaws. Thank you very much! There is nothing to apologize to anyone for being a highly sensitive person. Own it and know when to protect yourself. Mentally. Because we are a preditor's as in bullies, target of choice. As for people who have issues with highly sensitive people, that's their problem isn't it? Not yours. You don't need to be around them anyway. Just say check this out to your parents. Don't say anything else. Don't hang around to discuss it. Unless you want to. You're just making them aware. Providing some knowledge. That's all.

I have always been highly sensitive. However, I did go out to bars/clubs when I was younger simply because I absolutely love dancing. I enjoyed it immensely, but I generally avoided talking to anyone I didn't know-hanging out in the DJ booth was a good way to do so, as well as being able to pick the music I wanted to dance to. Though in highschool, I wasn't interested in the least to attend parties. I am also spontaneous, life is to be lived, overthinking everything is a waste of time as well as energy. Both my male and female friends commented on how much fun it was to hang out with me because it was always had fun and they never knew where we might end up going and/or doing. I have deep relationships with the people in my life, I am an intellectual that likes to know what motivates others, their thoughts and feelings about life, their experiences-there's so much to be learned from every person you take the time to have an in depth conversation(s) with. I don't have time for bullshit though. My feelings can be hurt easily, I feel others hurt/pain very deeply as well. Empathy and sympathy are very much a part of who I am. It's easy for me to "put myself in another person's shoes". My heart aches for even strangers that are suffering either emotionally and/or physically. I try my best to help others in any way that I can. At any rate, I am a highly sensitive person, though all of the traits you covered do not necessarily apply to me.

You were right! I have all of this things... I don't like horror movies or too much violence cause I feel pain and sadness with them. Next what is strong with me is critic myself and spending a lot time alone to full my energy... And I feel others energy I know when someone needs help or something... I also feel when some of my close person is somewhere in danger I'am connected with them....
