Want to learn more about how psychedelics can help you with your mental health?
In this video I talk with Kyle Kittleson of @MedCircle about the different uses of and types of psychedelics, debunk whether they are effective or if it just a myth and illuminate how these substances may hold the keys in treating anxiety, depression, PTSD and beyond.

Psilocybin saved my life. I was addicted to heroin for 15 years and after Psilocybin treatment I will be 3 years clean in September. I have zero cravings. This is something that truly needs to be more broadly used in addiction treatment.

I have struggled with mental illness and my mental health since I was a kid. Before I even knew what those terms were. After years of depression, anxiety, and even an attempt to take my life, I never thought I would be able to live without psych medications. I clung to them because it was the only thing that made my mind quiet, but it also made me a zombie. Microdosing has given me control of my mental health for the first time, and they essentially gave me my life back.

In Australia we have just had Psychedelics down graded from 9 to 8 which permits Therapists to give patients with long term untreatable PTSD etc. This is a great way forward & my hope is the PTSD can be in the past.

So you get to use it only in therapy or home on your own? I can't imagine taking a psychedelic drug and having a person I barely know talking to me and trying to "guide" me. For me, I would take it and growl out the anger. I don't need a guide to do that.

Dr. Tracey, In the past (over 15 yrs ago) I had docs tell me I was psychotic. MDD w/psychosis, or schizoaffective disorder, or bipolar I w/psychosis…or something that has a psychosis in it. I didn’t change, the doctors did. I have also used weed daily for decades (maybe a reason for the psychosis dx). With that said and hearing psilocybin may cause problems with these issues and knowing I would never be picked as a candidate for psychedelic therapy, I sourced my own mushrooms and began low dosing. Not micro, not high. Usually between 0.5 and 1.5g depending on strain. I used to smoke weed which made me foggy and put me into rumination. I quit that since dosing. Feel much clearer and cleaner. I had issues with agoraphobia, I can now walk around outside without anxiety. I have a deep depression that is getting better. I drink alcohol much less, and smoke cigarettes much less. In the past , I have taken many different SSRIs, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, you name it. The meds dulled me. It’s been over 15 years since I jumped off that merry go round of misery, I became a shut-in and gave up. I began my dosing in January of ‘23 and my mood has stabilized, my psychosis (I think it was trauma induced maladaptive daydreaming and interactive rumination - maybe some type of OCD) has diminished, I am beginning to have hope where I used to have none. I wouldn’t advocate heroic does for ppl like me but low to medium doses has helped me immensely. I feel like I’m alive. No ugly side effects, no suicidal thoughts, no arguments with docs, no more hospital stays. Im stable, I laugh sometimes where I never laughed before, my mind is clearer, I have hope. I hope that science helps ppl like me. We are written off so many times. Out of fear. I can say I would be turned down by doctors for this treatment. I did it myself and am passing along what I have learned so maybe others like me can benefit. I love your channel. You are the first MD doc that I listen to who seems to truly want to help effect change for the better in severely ill pt’s. Thanks for doing what you do.🍄❤️🔥

Despite living in germany, where it may take some more years (3-4 I guess). Also would be very interessting how it could/couldn't work with Bipolar. There are many controversial meanings. I was diagnosed not long ago while being in a mixed-phase. And I could see the harms potentiating the mania, but also the positives about the depression.

These are not new preparations, their effects have been known for a long time. What is new is that the pharmaceutical companies have found that right now is the right time to market this. As usual, there are financial interests behind it and in order for the companies to gain any credibility in the launch, information is required to be provided by psychiatrists paid or not. The patient becomes first and foremost, as so often, a consumer. In the case of these topics more clearly than ever.

@DrTraceyMarks
@DrTraceyMarks Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Natalia! I just met with someone today who had their bipolar depression successfully treated with a cycle of 6 infusions. This person has a lot of medication intolerances (like lithium and others) and this was a last resort. This is just one person, but it’s something. The thing to do is ask the center that’s doing the ketamine about their experience with bipolar patients. They should have a good perspective on how those people do in the long run.
@lunacouer
@lunacouer Жыл бұрын
If this is helpful, I have bipolar with one psychotic episode in there, and it's really helping the depression. I'm not doing infusions though - my doc is doing a pilot program where it's a daily, low-dose troche you dissolve under your tongue. I'm glad too, because it's super cheap, lol. I've stayed on a really low-dose comparatively speaking (50mg), so it's taken a bit longer to get my neurons growing back than maybe other patients (or with infusions), but there's a marked difference now 9 months later. No manic episodes either.

I am a person with a lot of nervousness and huge stress/anxiety underneath but I seem very chill on the outside. Taking shrooms in nature I was reflecting on old experiences/relationships/things that didnt work out or traumatic events and at this point I was able to actually feel Emotions of those things. I Was crying and feeling how things went wrong and I felt like I realized that my mind is my friend and wants to help me but we are scared sometimes. So Inwas crying about some things and also laughing in a very healing way. Since then Ive been more balenced and ruminating thoughts about bad past or bad future got greatly reduced. I am learning to feel what i need to feel and act out of love. blessings

But, I already have such dramatic lows that I feel they can't get as bad as where they are. Currently on 1200mg Lithium, 45mg Buspar, 5mg Olazopine therapy once a week and psychatrist meeting once a month for 10 years. I was on an anti-depressant that was not supposed to be very effective and it wasn’t. Now I am on a bipolar medicine. That seems to be working better. They also test for other medication such as anti-anxiety and pain medication’s.

the MDMA therapy caught my attention with affecting the amygdyla. I'm in recovery from severe PTSD and and making great progress, but still go from zero to paranoid over unexpected sounds. I have loads of anger management behind me but still not chill. Like I am so tired of the problem it makes in my life, I would seriously look into travelling to the US for treatment.

As a person with ADHD, microdosing with shrooms really helped me with my mood and thinking. Everyday dealing with a mode disorder due to my chemical imbalance of lack of dopamine psilocybin made me more in tune with myself and made me really happy to be in the moment. which lasted for a few months, psychedelics really does help with brain and i look forward for it to be legal. My psychiatrist says I have passive suicidality cos I don't care if I live or die, have no motivation for life, feel little connection. Been thru the pills etc, all I can say is that they reduce the symptoms like anxiety quite well. For me that's what I feel psychiatrist can only offer at present. Occasionally do take an opiate painkiller just to have a slightly good day, like I treat myself I give myself once in a while. I keep going on a hope that one day psilocybin will become a treatment option that I can try before I give up on Psychiatry. But a slim hope as I live in Malaysia and an 70 so time is just no there as it takes ages for new treatments to trickle her.

Dr Marks, I don't know if you're going to see this, and I don't know if you have access to anyone doing the research on MDMA use, but... Any research conducted on any treatment should also look at long-term effects, longer than a few months if it's possible to do so. For anyone researching MDMA, they should ABSOLUTELY talk to ravers. My last roommate is a raver and she talks about how she definitely feels a kind of "serotonin burnout" she calls it - a feeling that she can only get so happy because her receptors got fried from too much E recreational use. I hope that this is helpful somehow.

@@karencamp741 my husband of 9 years (he’s 67) was diagnosed with bipolar in 2019 after having a manic episode that turned into psychosis which landed him in the psych ward for 9 days. He had never been diagnosed before that although I eventually found out that his relatives always thought that he might be bipolar. This was the first time that he went psychotic at the age of 63. At the beginning of our relationship I just thought that he was a very moody person with passive aggressive behavior. And those traits took about a year to show up (after the “honeymoon” phase ended). Since his diagnosis he’s had 4 psychotic episodes. Two of them landed him in the hospital but for the other two, his psychiatrist was able to adjust his meds before a full blow psychosis. He’s been on lithium for the past almost 4 years which either make him super lethargic or if the dose is adjusted even a smidgen to get him out of the lethargy he tends to go manic pretty quickly. So my question for you is this: I’ve read that micro dosing can throw bipolar people into mania, especially the ones who are more on the manic side (like my husband) than those who are more on the depressed side (my husband doesn’t experience depression, just extreme lethargy) and should be avoided. Is your husband’s bipolar more manic or depressed?

My personal opinion is that “There is no such thing as a bad trip” sounds crazy, but I believe that there are things to learn inside of bad trips. A bad trip tells you exactly what not to do, in my case, that was be afraid. Bad trips are not fun and they can be dangerous but if you have a strong mind, you’ll be able understand that if you see something that scares you isn’t real in the slightest. The according to most people are, do not trip alone and have a trip sitter (sober and capable person), do not trip if you’re scared, having a bad day, going through something upsetting or scary because you’re very likely to have a bad experience. Having faith, letting go of fear, what ifs and control is the prevention of a bad trip. The last rule is start with a low dose, you don’t want to have a bad trip on a shit load of psychedelics. As far as the earlier traumas, I don’t know what the trauma was but I personally wouldn’t worry too much about it, if anything it may help you. It’s true that not everyone has a mind that can handle psychedelics but a psychotic break is unlikely. Even with past trauma, you should be okay but no one can promise you anything. I would consider professional advice from a psychologist or someone that would know about possible warning signs of being sensitive to drug induced psychosis or any psychosis really. Also, if you do have a bad trip or are still worried about it, antipsychotics kill trips. They’re easy to get ahold of, anyone with depression can ask for them. There may be a natural medication with antipsychotic properties too if you don’t feel like telling a half truth. Good luck and I hope you find what you’re looking for.
